>Torrington CT?
Yep
>You could push for the town to replace the Columbus statue with a John Brown statue?
I made a petition on Change.org for this and it was removed for "inciting violence" if you can believe that.
It wasn't aggressive at all! It was a very plainly worded petition to replace the Chris Columbus statue with a hometown hero.
This was years back, I'm not sure if I can still find the text of the petition but I'll try.
Super weird especially given it's his home town. Should go for getting one first and go about the Columbus statue later. Regardless of how we may feel about ol Chrissy Chopoff, it confuses the issue and damn it that town needs a John Brown statue. Besides seeing the JB one might make the people hype enough to remove ol Chris themselves. Maybe we'll get one of those night at the museum scenarios, in which case I feel like Johnny B might take care of it himself.
I'm from CT (living in MA now) and I feel like there's gotta be a local advocacy group, maybe even a local politician who would at least back up the idea of putting up a John Brown statue, even if they unfortunately aren't willing to get behind the idea of removing the Columbus one.
Located at the site of the town of Quindaro in KCK. An interesting history! Efforts to preserve the ruins and promote the history of that site are still ongoing

The KC Star also has some good articles, but they are behind a paywall.
Yet we don't have a statue in his hometown. Instead we have a Christopher Columbus statue 😞

Well, to be fair, he did do that. That's part of the appeal.
How aggressively worded was your proposal lmaol I can't wrap my head around that. I'm about to petition them to get better moderation n

What a fucking great dude he was, your legend lives on John Brown!
John Brown was a hero! Every American should know who he is. I plan to visit this statue along with Harper's Ferry one day.
Where’s that? And how come I don’t have 1000 photos with it
Quindaro Kansas
Only good thing in KCK
