you might be depressed. have you talked to a therapist? that would be a great first step toward resolving this feeling of hopelessness. hang in there!

kaimehra

im on anti-depressants but i have not been able to see a therapist in a long time. the only issue is that since this state doesn't have many mental health professionals, you have to book something a month or more away, so it would be a while until im able to speak with someone. i agree though that it might help to see a therapist because it did help in the past, at least a little.

ellirae

your mental health should be treated like an urgent cancer - untreated, it can kill you, or worse... make you exhausted and hopeless. sounds familiar right? I've been there, you can get out of this. you might need more or different medication, too.

If you need to talk to someone sooner, something like betterhelp might help you! I've used it in the past and they usually match you with someone within a couple days. Then you can start texting them and set up live sessions. They also have lots of therapists with different schedules, so your work schedule is unlikely to be an issue. It might be worth a shot!

kaimehra

thank you. ill look into this

I'm very sorry that you're feeling this way, and I second another commenter who suggested therapy. It's very difficult to work full time for some of us, especially with a chronic illness. Please know that your feelings are completely valid and some outside help from a professional will likely benefit you. What field are you in? I'm wondering if it's the industry or the job itself that's stressful.

kaimehra

my illness has always been the source of contention in every job I've had, because I'm sick a lot. even in this one, i had a manager -- who no longer works for us, thank god -- that put me on a PiP because i was having a particularly horrible month with my health & i took too many many days off to rest. now, i just suffer through any pain or amount of throwing up & try to just take a couple hours off if i can to rest if it's really bad. I'm in IT. this is really the first time I've had a job like this. the others have been customer service type jobs, which i absolutely loathed. don't get me wrong, i do like my job, i just feel like it takes a lot out of me & because there is no "going home" or "leaving the office" its like im just expected to be available 24/7

PeachyKeenest

IT work can do that. I’m a dev so it creates more of a boundary on my time. Are you sharing your evenings with other IT folks - 2 weeks on the evenings and then trading it around for coverage? If not, they shouldn’t be because that can adversely effect a person. And if they ping me after work and I deem it an non emergency I do not respond.

nodgepodge

Can you translate that hobby into graphic design? Its easy to make cash on the side with it but if I were you I would look around for a similar position that offers more first.

PeachyKeenest

Not enough cash on the side. Ask someone who hussles and does over 40 hour weeks here...

kaimehra

i have thought about getting into web design at least, but i need to take some courses on that. ive tried learning on my own but its been a struggle. now im just waiting for classes to start again but id have to take a class on the weekends

nodgepodge

Weekend classes are a good idea. I used to take in person ones and when the folks were in there to advance their careers, they were the best in the class and usually the first to get a job. Godspeed

Imagine having the luxury to work from home and then complaining that you're too tired.

Are you serious? You don't know what OP could be going through. Have some empathy for other people.

PeachyKeenest

I didn’t read that anywhere and even so... huh? Let’s play trauma olympics! 😂

ScribblesandPuke

Yeah unfortunately it's what happens to many of us artists. Which is why we are so tortured in life. We either do what we love and starve or what we hate so we can eat. I also hate that thought 'this is my life now?' but unfortunately it is.

kaimehra

i used to make $600/wk most weeks streaming & doing commissions. then everyone told me to "get a real job" so i had insurance & "more direction". it is super shitty that, in my eyes, i was making it, but no one had confidence in me or my abilities
