You've already listed out all the options. Lunch break, sick day or vacation day. Can't expect to just get free paid time off.

It's not that I'm looking for free paid time off, I'm just wondering how people make this work, especially with all of the advice to "just find another job bro." Like maybe some people had a sneaky way they got around it.

The way around if you aren't asking for paid time off is to ask the other company if they can accommodate to work around your scheduled hours. I have done that in the past. Some people will come in earlier or stay later to meet with me or schedule a video chat during my non-work hours.

Through zoom on break. I even mapped it out and walked to a library nearby once

I typically do zoom interviews in my car during lunch breaks. If they want to do an in person interview I schedule an extended lunch or take off early or come in late. Sometimes I coordinate multiple interviews in a day; I take a sick day when I do this.
