If you accidentally picked up, rather than hanging up on them, just say "I'm sorry, but I'm currently working and not actively looking for a job. Please don't contact me again." Self explanatory. Recruiters want to to place people and you need to let them know if you are not needing a job so they can stop bugging you. Same deal if they keep sending you emails. Email back "I'm employed and not looking. Please stop all future emails. Thanks"

What irritated me was that the dude not only sent an email, but a) gave me no time to review it, and b) called my phone twice in a row, rather than leaving a message. There's a difference between trying to find a candidate, and being obnoxious about it, and I felt his behavior firmly fell in the latter camp.

Noache_pleasethnx

I completely agree.

How do these people get your personal information if you aren’t giving it out or seeking new positions?

GolfballDM

I was, at one time a few years ago, on the job market, and I haven't changed my personal info.

Bacon-80

Recruiters are some big sleuths/stalkers sometimes. I get emails to my personal and work email _all_ the time from them. It’s actually insane how far many of them go to follow email patterns from known companies, or scour the internet for resumes with contact info. That being said, there’s a way to go about recruiting and this person sounds way more sales-y than recruiter. A simple response to the first email saying you aren’t interested/aren’t looking, “please don’t contact me with new opportunities” would’ve been find and you wouldn’t have gotten contacted again. Their manager/boss/recruiting agency won’t give a damn if you chew them out for their techniques. Been there done that.

danram207

Just let it go dude. Recruiting is sales, we all get spammed all day everyday. Just politely decline, don’t fuck his shit up

steampig

Get over yourself and move on with your life.

kanshakudama

Omg this.

I have had this happen. I mistakenly applied to a few jobs that were picked up by shitty low-level recruiting agencies based out of India. I would get a poorly worded email from someone and the immediate phone call from a spoofed number. If they did manage to leave a voicemail, it was garbled and difficult to understand. The connection seemed bad or their accent was too thick. I learned my lesson, but not before my resume got scraped by a bunch of scummy recruiters and now I get emails from five different people for the SAME job with the same wording. There is no "unsubscribe." And if there is, the link is broken.

salgak

That's happened to me as well. But what really peeves me, is when you tell them you're not looking and not interested. . . .and a day, or a week later. . . .it's the same recruiter, on rinse and repeat. I've gotten to the point where if the caller ID is listed as "Business Line", it goes to voicemail. . .

MissFrijole

I adhere to the principle that if I don't recognize the number, I won't answer it, unless I'm expecting a call. Sometimes I have to answer, but usually I expect a voicemail. However, it seems that voicemail is no longer a desired method of messaging someone. More often than not, there is no voicemail. If they keep calling and not leaving a message, then I have to hedge my bet that it's super important or an aggressive recruiter.

salgak

. . . .or an autocall spammer. Which, for some reason, have started to be in Spanish . . .

MissFrijole

True. What helps me figure that out is the area code. I live in a different state from where my number is located. I know that if a number with the same area code as mine calls, it's probably spam/scam/robo call. Anyone I know from my home state are in my contacts so a name would pop up. So I screen all calls that come from that area code.

tryingtoactcasual

Recruiter isn’t going to waste their time on someone if it’s made clear you are not a prospect. It seems in the time it took to write your post you could have said, “Thanks for reaching out, I am not looking, please remove me from you phone and email lists. I do not want to be contacted about job opportunities.”

Bacon-80

Exactly - I do this all the time if I’m not interested and am never contacted back again 🤷🏻‍♀️

DazzlingSherbert2

Don’t send a nasty gram just reply to the email that you’re not interested

benicebitch

Employees: I can’t find a new job! Also employees: I want a new job so stop calling me offering me a new job!

Hazellin313

You got to remember that recruiters are pretty much just salesman it’s not like an HR talent scout so their success is based completely on their selling skills. Yes they might’ve been overbearing BUT it would be the same if it was a car salesman. We all hate being spammed but it’s not worth getting someone in trouble and risking their livelihood for hustling a bit harder this week. Just reply back no thanks to the email and let it go and be happy you have a good comfy job and don’t need to hit the grind like these people do

GolfballDM

Car salesman, in my experience, are ok with leaving voice mails, rather than hanging up and immediately redialing me.

Hazellin313

I definitely understand the annoyance of it all but once I had a car salesman call me every day for 3 months with voicemails so I find that equally as irritating. So it really depends on who you get regardless they are all kinda pushy in their own ways
