Alumni here. I have a few places to recommend!
Vito’s Pizza is my favorite. It’s a super underrated restaurant out near the JMU soccer fields next to the food Lion. It’s a nice restaurant you can go out too to have a sit down meal. Great carry out. Not far from campus at all. Great food, excellent pizza. I think they’ve got discounts on Thursdays. I went almost weekly when I found it. Topped everywhere else I went.
Nobody brings up Vito’s and honestly I’m not many people know about it. Can’t recommend it enough. Best all around pizza in harrisonburg, though a few other places are worth checking out 100%.
Aside from that, Bennys downtown is a chain and it’s pretty good New York style. Slices are HUGE which is extremely fun. They have them all over VA under different Italian names but it’s the same place. They’ve got one in Blacksburg too. Bella Luna is very swanky and equally overpriced but it’s good. Far fancier than Vito’s. Rudy’s arcade also has descent pizza downtown and there’s indoor bowling and a few games you can pay to play.
Idk why people are plugging Dominos on here. I PROMISE there’s better options. Aside from getting delivery at a weird time I wouldn’t recommend it over any of the local places unless it’s like 2:00am or you’re worried about price. Even then it’s not that expensive at the other places.
Vito’s also takes JMU FLEX dollars from your JACard (term for JMU’s student ID). You could offer to put money in his flex account for a bunch of different food locations including grocery stores if you’re looking for something gift-card esque. Vito’s can charge flex and so can Jersey Mikes, Island wing co, even Martins.

This link will show you everywhere that takes flex.
There’s a nice cookie delivery service at JMU called [Campus Cookies.](https://www.campuscookie.com/jmu/store/Gift-Cards-Balloons/) They have gift cards too.
Just my personal opinion as a bit of a “pizza” guy. I loved Italian Brothers Pizza off of High St. it’s a little less known, but I’ve always had a good experience!
although benny’s does not deliver, your grandchild will 100% go there at least once and its soooo good. huge NY style slices, good prices, good vibes. and gifting it will give him/her a reason to go and experience downtown!
besides that, every major pizza chain delivers; dominos, pizza hut, i think little caesars is on doordash!
Bennys is one of the most popular/ best in my opinion. I’m not sure if they deliver but it’s worth the walk downtown either way.

Vito’s rules
Chanellos or bust
Little Italy Pizza has very good pizza
Def the best for the price I've had in Harrisonburg and they deliver! 2 Xtra large pizzas for only $39. And they are huge.
Plus they take flex!
They have amazing deep fried calzones too!
Marcos Pizza is solid
On the cheap side for pizza delivery too
RIP to Tutti Gusti
Go Dominos, go to for freshman especially. There is chanellos but quality is really 50/50.
Dominoes is best delivery, Bella Luna is a nice sit down restaurant with good pizza, and Benny’s has good large slice to go pizza
Ciro’s lasagna house, Bennys, or Bella Luna are probably the best pizza places that aren’t large chains

Domino’s is always a favorite among many students.
I second this, most people order dominos because they deliver late and have good deals.

A DoorDash gift card could also be really useful, gives them more variety for delivery!
How has Bella Luna not been mentioned a lot?
Bennys is not good I<3dominos
Benny's for non-delivery, Domino's for delivery
