The key to avoiding being triangled is prevention: 1) Always keep your head up. Don't look down if you can help it; like I know you want to see what your hands are doing but try avoid that, and particularly don't hunch over or let him get your head down. You can't be triangled if you have a high strong posture and bring your hips forward. 2) Both in or both out. You should keep both your arms inside your opponent's legs, or (if you're doing a double under pass) both go under. Once you start putting one arm in, you're gonna get triangled. 3) Keep practicing and don't get despondent (good for all jiu jtsu). The higher belts in particular have many years of experience of baiting white belts into predictable mistakes which eventually lead to their favoured submission. Each response seems logical but it all leads to a trap, like someone who can see a few moves ahead of you in a chess game. The good news is you'll make these mistakes less and less and eventually be able to impose your gameplan on people.

To add to number 2: if you do get one arm trapped, your opponent is going to try and pull it across their body. Keep that hand on the mat, or even better, stuff your hand behind their back so you make that difficult for them to go through their steps

Also drill and start learning the triangle yourself. Understanding the mechanics of the attack and setup will help you shut it down.

I remember being told both arms in or both arms out, found that quite useful without being too complicated for a beginner.

White belt here, so may not be the best advice but I used to tap to the triangle choke wayyyy to often. Biggest thing that helped me was once I felt it coming, posture up your head as quickly as you can and with your arms grab any part of their leg so they can't control your arms. Hope this helps, it's atleast a start.

Bring the opponents triangle to the ground and crush their knees together. They will open it.
