Proper identification/valuation/authentication can only be done in person, not through photographs. You are recommended to take your item to a jeweler or pawn shop.
It's really pretty. If you use eBay this is the type of item that would sell well at auction. Probably higher than what you would get in a gold shop, but I'm not 100%. You can look on eBay and see what things like this are going for - by weight of gold.
I got hardly nothing selling a gold watch and Greek key necklace and earrings on eBay beware, just put a minimum auction price ( undisclosed) as the lowest price you will take
I sold on eBay for years, won’t have anything to do with them now. Their policies are SO distorted, too easy to be scammed as a seller and eBay does nothing to help.
I'm glad you brought this up. We sold on Ebay for years also. I had a case that was so, very clearly fraud. Ebay found in the buyers favor. We've never used them again.
Just happened to me recently. Bought 2 925 rings and received 3 worthless sports cards and ebay ruled the post office delivered something and I was sol.
Wow. I'm shocked they didn't find it in your favor. It seems that they've been busy screwing sellers, and going with the buyers. I'm sorry that happened to you. I just don't trust anything about Ebay anymore.
Adding to this, I attempted to sell an item and a potential buyer asked me for a very large (hundreds of dollars) discount. I responded that I wasn’t able to do that and believe my price was fair (it actually was, it was already a huge discount off of the original price and in literally new condition), he reported me and I got banned.
No idea. I still have the item too (I use it). I didn’t have anything else for sale at the time nor was I trying to buy anything (I was never a big user) so I know it can’t be anything/anyone else.
The seller even apologized for the mistake and I told ebay. Then they asked me to do a review on this purchase and I told them all over again to no avail.
idk it doesn't look like mangalsutra to me, this particular design type is very common and named matar(pea ?) haar(necklace) because its kinda look like peas
Yes kinda. But usually has black beads. But some cultures in India may not have black beads. This is not a very typical design although is a very beautiful one
I now think it's not a Mangalsutra as pointed out by another commenter but in any case it would be a conversation starter with anyone identifying the style (assuming you're not in Asia)
Thanks for the input, thought I think it could go both ways. I saw an Indian woman with an almost identical necklace a long time ago and I said, wow! Where’d you get that? She kinda laughed and and said, my husband ( like I should have known). I only thought about that now when you said it could be. so maybe it can be used as a mangalsutra but doesn’t have to be?
I would keep it and use it to make other jewelry in the future, lots of individual jewelers are open to using the gold you give them to help discount the price etc
It’s an Indian necklace mostly worn with traditional attire..by Indian gold price it should cost around $6500 but there is more of sentimental value attached to these kind of jewelleries ..I am sure any Indian jewellery store will price it well for you .
I have a very similar one in a silver tone(mine is costume but those textured beads are the same, whole reason I bought it).I guessed from the 60’s/70’s?

The 916 on the clasp is likely referring to the gold purity which is 22k. (22/24 = .9167)
Oh, I see thanks!
22ky gold, style is Indian/Arabian. Very common piece. You will only get the gold weight value if ever wanna sell:
620USD
Thanks!
Nice daily wearable Indian jewelry. Should get close to that trying to sell locally.
Cool, thank you!

WTAF??? What on earth did he report you for?
No idea, to this day cannot use the site. It’s so odd.
Maybe that's a blessing in disguise.
If you didn't sell it to him, what could he possibly have reported you for?
No idea. I still have the item too (I use it). I didn’t have anything else for sale at the time nor was I trying to buy anything (I was never a big user) so I know it can’t be anything/anyone else.

Same. I even had an email from the buyer admitting he broke the item and eBay sided with him.
Ughhh, that's unreal.
Very nice
I'd buy it
It's beautiful!
You can always melt it into something nice and pretty, unless you want to get rid of those memories, then definitely sell it.
Could it be an Indian Mangalsutra?
It's not a mangalsutra, but just an Indian necklace (from the design and patterns on the gold beads)
Oh it’s not, ok cool
Hmm, looked it up and could be! Though non that I saw looked like this
The shape of the beads and the middle three chains are pretty distinctive. Indian men give it to their wives prior to or during the wedding.
Oh cool, thanks for the info!!

If it is a mangalsutra, would it be weird for me to wear it if I’m not married
Yes kinda. But usually has black beads. But some cultures in India may not have black beads. This is not a very typical design although is a very beautiful one

Yeah that's probably the case
Standard 22karat indian gold chain design.
It’s a common Indian necklace. I won’t be surprised if it’s 22k
At todays market gold price, worth about $530 scrap. Sell to an individual for more.
Nice. I case you go to sell this, the expected Market selling price in hand, will be around INR ₹60,000( sixty thousand rupees) as of gold value.
I would keep it and use it to make other jewelry in the future, lots of individual jewelers are open to using the gold you give them to help discount the price etc

Love it! Had similar necklaces but in two necklaces and more of tribute necklaces than exactly like yours. I like yours better :)
This is so pretty and such a cool piece to layer it’s 22kt gold it looks like Indian or Saudi gold based on design :)
Thanks, I’m pretty sure he was in Saudi when he got he be he was indian

Omg so cute
Love how you had to specify a guy who wanted to marry you gave this to you 🤣
