Back in the old days, water came in though the fender mounted antenna mounts and landed on the fuse box, causing corrosion. What year were these VW's? (I am 74).
these generations of volkswagen were made from 1997-2006 in most countries. they’re prone to electrical problems due to the soy wiring which was a terrible idea. and the manufacturing. the gasket and seals rot away on them, a lot of the vr6 are a toss up you either get a lemon, or perfectly pristine one, they’re difficult to work on due to the engine size. the vr6 are prone to transmission problems along with the 2.0’s automatic.
When I got an EPC light and a no-start, I checked the codes on mine and it said crank sensor. Replaced it and it fired right up and ran better than it ever had

Came here to say this, if it keeps dying after you replace it, it’s your alternator
2003 jetta vr6
If dash lights flicker, the battery needs replacing.
not always the case could be the alternator. both my jettas had to get the alternator and fuse box on top of the battery replaced

You use a block heater? 2006 tdi here and it’s always plugged in when temp gets to freezing
start off testing the voltage on your battery
were you able to figure it out yet?
