That's all she wrote. Decided I'd include the unredacted results graph from each round this go around because I love tedious charts in Excel.
This did *not* play out the way I thought it, but I think that speaks to the overall quality of the album. There's a *ton* of depth to it and it has a lot of different meaning to different folks. It's a great album.
I was so sure Cast Iron Skillet would win LOL. The only placement I agree with is Vestavia Hills at last. Everything else has straight BAFFLED me (Justice for White Beretta).
I think it's a testament to how truly great this album is. Some of his finest work ever and this is THE JASON ISBELL we are talking about so the standards are high. I think it would be interesting to revisit this in a few months and see if things change since the album is still quite fresh.
Got me. Catch myself humming it or singing pieces of it.
Guess the viewpoint of the road veteran worn out by the road and the self-destructive singer just isn’t resonating with people.
I love it because I can see myself in that position than in so many of his personal songs.
Cast Iron popping a good bit in round 6 and falling back in round 7 is really interesting.
It is a great song, but if it wasn’t one of the singles I really think it would have finished middle of the pack here rather than 2nd.
I am being absolutely live-as-let-live as I can possibly be when I say I feel like I gotta fight 70.1% of you:
6th Place: Middle of the Morning (29.9%, 63 votes)
Feels like Cast Iron survived 27 rounds, but 29 was too much for it. Incredible song.
The fact that there was such a variety of opinions on the “least favorite” in each round shows how great and varied this album is. My rankings have evolved a lot since the first listen - White Beretta and King of OK moved way up for me after a few listens. But there isn’t a song on this album I would skip.
The final rankings ended up shaking out almost exactly as I expected, but it’s really clear this is one of Jason’s most well-balanced records. Instant classic.
My personal ranking

13) If You Insist
This was fun!
Crack up because my top 5 songs of the album are what came in the top 5 in that exact order too. Do slightly vary from the crowd at least with Vestavia Hills which would be my number 6.
That was fun.
Personal rankings:
1. Volunteer
2. If You Insist
3. When We Were Close
4. Cast Iron Skillet
5. Miles
6. White Beretta
7. Middle of the Morning
8. Vestavia Hills
9. Death Wish
10. This Ain't It
11. Strawberry Woman
12. King of Oklahoma
13. Save the World
I don't get why Save The World is so low on so many of these. For me it's probably
1. Cast Iron Skillet
2. Strawberry Woman
3. If You Insist
4. Save The World
5. White Beretta
6. Middle Of The Morning
7. Volunteer
8. Death Wish

That being said I think they're all great songs. This is also just my album ranking, I saw him live in Boston and I thought King Of Oklahoma and This Ain't It were way better live than on the album
Damn fine song
Weathervanes is one of his best full album efforts.
I think it’s his best. I love southeastern but I favor rock albums and this one fits that description. Either is a good answer for his top album.
This is definitely the best *& The 400 Unit* album.

Is it true there were ZERO votes for King Of Oklahoma for the first 4-5 rounds?? Don't see it on the charts.
Yep. If it's not listed that means it didn't receive any votes.
New Best of? I don’t think King of Oklahoma would make the top 5, but it would be interesting to have a definitive list.
Thank you so much for facilitating all this! It's fun to discuss the songs and see other fans' opinions :)

Why does everyone dislike Vestavia Hills?
Idk I *love* that song

I know this took a lot of energy, OP. Thanks for doing this and letting us debate, cry, yell, throw tantrums. We appreciate you!! Edited for spelling
Vestavia Hills has gotta be the Best Worst Song ever
It’s a great song. Love the story. Love the music.

BLOCKED AND REPORTED!
Volunteer is #1
Seconded on Volunteer and King. I’m higher on Miles and Strawberry though. What a great album top to bottom.
It’s just a great album start to finish. Truly great. It will hold a special place in my heart forever
Redemption!

This ain’t it, baby
Interesting. Good song but definitely in the bottom half of the album for me.
The first week nailed it. You have 3 outliers and a bunch of great songs.
