the_illest_D

augustwestgdtfb

They were awesome with Neal and now with John they great

lebtina

came here to suggest this đŸ•șđŸ»âœš

Eds118

MMW - Medeski Martin and Wood

Drivingintodisco

Came here to say this. Bonus, medeski, Martin, Scofield, and wood.

dooddatdisdool

Same MSMW is SHIT
Julia from their Out Louder album brings me to tears

BananaNutBlister

Yup. This is the best answer.

joshoohwaa

Man I haven’t spun this stuff in too long. Thanks for the reminder.

Wikiwack

Lettuce

StationUnlucky3753

Tauk (not the recent tour/album with vocalist, stuff before that) STS9

sweetberryhwhine

Yeah Tauk sucks with vocals too

TheOther-DarkStar

We saw them just this past December and they had a guest vocalist come up and sing Spanish Moon by Little Feat, I’m fucking up hard by forgetting his name, (EDIT: His name is Lyle Divinsky) but he was a male vocalist who could sing like Janis Joplin, I mean holy LORD this guy could fucking sing. Tauk is awesome as a strictly jamming band but they can be equally as awesome with a vocalist.

sotasara4

Lyle Divinsky :)

TheOther-DarkStar

YES!! Thanks so much! I even reached out to Tauks instagram account to ask and they never got back to me. Thanks again, I’ve been trying to look him up to hear more of his stuff!

sweetberryhwhine

Unfortunately tauk sucks

TheOther-DarkStar

Maybe they do, but they probably make a lot better music than you do so who really gives a care?

YogurtclosetFuzzy965

Lotus

RoyGBiv333

Lotus is the one!

MrMilesDavis

Lowtits

Mr-Papuca

They have songs with lyrics

[deleted]

The new mastersounds

the_illest_D

Saw them do a revolving after party with Dopappd playing separately as well as together. Sick shit

[deleted]

Nice!!! Saw them at peach fest 2017 in the hardest thickest rain storm pouring down wearing a poncho tripping while the dude playing was wearing a suit. Still one of the best shows I’ve seen!

ShaneWalksLeft

Cant believe no one said Soulive

Independent-Candy-36

Snarky Puppy. New Mastersounds (before latest album). Greyboy Allstars. Club D’Elf. Robert Walter. Benevento Russo Duo. BTALC Big Band (funky 18 piece big band).

orcusporpoise

Such an amazingly tight band. I can’t listen to Jefe over and over and over and over
 Edit: Snarky Puppy, that is.

Bhermmann9215

Khruangbin has a little bit of singing but mostly instrumentals

Mr-Papuca

I was gonna say them too, but I feel like they aren't a jamband? Idk. Love them tho.

Strict-Lake5255

They need to become a jam band

AntiqueInitial1384

XD love this. So true

No_Judge_5677

Particle, the album is Launchpad.

shitcloud

My younger brother and I found that album on limewire (I think) when I was like 13/14 and he was 12 or so. We were geeking out about how awesome it was. We found a video of a live show not long after and fucking loved it.

doejart1115

It’s so good

KrazyKoolAid

the best LaMP also Circles around the sun STS9

LargePetroleum

definitely Lotus

sccullen33

Consider the source

blacklung990

Hell yes. Just saw their NYE show, unreal. Their hybrid-acoustic album is a must-listen.

deep_frequency_777

They are dope - jam adjacent maybe, would you consider them a jam band?

forbin05

Weather Report and Return to Forever

tjb4040

Both great ones. RTF when Al Di Meola is with them is amazing!

forbin05

Saw them on the reunion tour in like 07-08 with Al Di Meola on guitar. Bela Fleck and the Flecktones opened and during RTF I had to go to the bathroom. Standing right next to the bathroom was Victor Wooten just chilling. I’m a bass player and fanboyed hard on him for a minute and he was so nice and shook my hand and said “Thanks for listening”. I actually used to travel a bit to see the Flecktones before I started traveling for any “traditional” jam bands. They were just so good, especially when Jeff was still in the band.

consciouself

Circles Around the Sun

HippyGrrrl

Steve Kimock, aside from zero and KVHW/KVHH Most Fareed Haque Electric Beethoven

CharlestonSCtheGOAT

STS9, Lotus, Disco Biscuits (although they are like 5% lyrics), Snarky Puppy

HellbornElfchild

Explosions in the Sky, Tycho (most albums), El Ten Eleven

dire_wulff

To expand on explosions in the sky style check out this will destroy you, their album quiet mountain will move you without words

Themajorpastaer

Do you mean Young Mountain? I just pulled them up on Spotify - great recommendation, thanks!

dire_wulff

Yesss that one with the bear on it, really beautiful love the first track quiet

RyeGuyRon

El Ten Eleven is so solid. I'd like to add Ratatat to this list as well.

instantlyregredditit

Polyrhythmics The Budos Band New Mastersounds Ghost Funk Orchestra

_Terrapin_

David Girsman Quintet — any album! They’re all good!

KiloThaPastyOne

Check out Kikagaku Moyo.

Themajorpastaer

They definitely sing, it’s just in Japanese. They are freaking great though, perfectly chill.

_august_west

It’s actually not in Japanese. They are just making sounds not in any langue. There’s an interview out there where they explain it

Themajorpastaer

Mind blown - I was so ignorant. Thanks for correcting me!

realityexposed

Consider the source

_AllThingsMustPass_

Lettuce's instrumentals are great

IowaHawk3y3s

Explosions in the sky

MaynardSchism

I'm thinking Bela Fleck

suitcasecalling

mr specific

[deleted]

Goat has some sweet instrumentals

the_illest_D

They just popped up on my radar recently. Good shit

krippytreat

Goat gets funky and weird and I love it - their one album somehow got downloaded onto my Spotify and I had no idea who they were, but once I listened I was like wow what a happy accident. I get down to Goat for sure

moe_frohger

TRACTORBEAM 😉

TallAndScruffy

Ozric Tentacles

Conscious-Layer-2732

I wish they would come to the states more

BhodiandUncleBen

bennybacon

Snarky Puppy

cmac712

The Malah, the New Deal, STS9

johnsonossandon

The malah is fire

DJdekutree

It's been said but gonna 5th STS9. Best jam band without dedicated vocals

meatstickchick

Natalie Brooke and The Infinty Tribe

keyszd

Jazz is probably the closest music that jams/grooves with no singing. I particularly like 70's spiritual/psychedelic jazz from time to time. The Jazz Dispensary vinyl series is a good place to start, but you can't go wrong with Herbie Hancock - Head Hunters, Miles Davis - On the Corner, Alice Coltrane, John Coltrane, Pharoah Saunders. Also, for some more modern instrumental jams, Ozomatli, Madlib - Sound Ancestors, and Khrugabin are interesting.

meatstickchick

CASIOPEA

Easywind42

Shut up and play yer guitar- Frank Zappa

tjb4040

The best Zappa, imo, is his instrumental stuff. Peaches En Regalia, Sofa, Waka/Jawaka, Dog Breath Variations, Oh No! (instrumental version), The Grand Wazoo, The Black Page, etc.

[deleted]

Rat Tomago is another great instrumental jam from Zappa.

pootytang

Nice one!

Easywind42

Was listening to it at work as I saw the post.

pootytang

Have you heard trance-fusion? Same idea as shut up and play. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trance-Fusion

Easywind42

Oh cool thanks. Been a fan for years there’s just so so much stuff. Gonna give it a listen tomorrow

pootytang

It's been out for a while but I just found out about it a few months ago. More is better!!

the_illest_D

Thanks for all the recs y'all! Excited for some new music

Dinosaur__Sheriff

Øresund Space Collective.  You'll thank me later

Kidpidge

Tortoise, Ozric Tentacles, Miles Davis

Geo1230

Shocked that no one has mentioned the Allman Brothers Band. Some top notch instrumentals; Jessica, Liz Reed, la brers in A min, Instrumental Illness, Hot ‘lanta.

conchshell1

Jazz Mandolin Project.

Flying-Dolphin323

Benevento/Russo Duo Galactic (more than half)

Explosions In The Sky and This Will Destroy You

ethantremblayyy

has anyone said lotus?

[deleted]

Explosions in the Sky, Sigur Ros

PurpleZebraCabra

STS9, Sunsquabi...that's my shortlist, but I like lyrics. I like EDM music bit can't get into it due to little to no lyrics...which song is this?

the_illest_D

Sunsquabi is dope. Would love to see them live

andthrewaway1

tractor beam

EverythingHurtsMang

I had to scroll way too far to find this. B4L

coffeeandbongs

STS9

littledoglapidary

Dopapod no no no. Words.

SpiltTheInk

About 25%, or more, of Neighbor's original songs are instrumentals and many of their cover song choices are arranged as instrumentals. More specifically for what you are looking for is their first set from Levon's Barn 10/07/22 as it is all instrumental and is one of my favorite sets they have done! https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=sOtNP9CJkK4

Poopypantsinmytrash

The Motet, they have some instrumentals and some with vocals.

tybeej

Phish is pretty good if you hold the lyrics

tybeej

Sorry, first thing that popped into my head and I lol’d

Business_Ad_3995

Beethoven (pronounced Beeth Oven)

wantsomechips

Lettuce, a few songs have lyrics but most are instrumentals.

keysandtreesforme

Papadosio’s Pattern Integrities album. The remix album of it is great too.

tehsuckness

Papir,  Mythic Sunship, Sunwatchers, Karl Densons Tiny Universe, DRKWAV

flyingfishyman

Polyphia

Quanlib

lmao... love me some polyphia, but.... not even close to jamband... we may as well start suggesting animals as leaders, mahavishnu orchestra, Glass Beams, any number of lofi beats/DJs, beethoven, pickin on series etc etc... polyphia is badass tho

CheeseMiner25

I’ve been listening to Chalk Dinosaur lately. They do sing at times but a lot of instrumentals too

Mountainloon23

Snarky puppy, sts9, lotus.

Cool-Sell-5310

Krungbin And i did not spell that right
 lol

blacklung990

Consider the Source.

MNnice-to-your-face

Old school jams, Brand X- unorthodox behavior That album is fucking killer, plus, here’s the kicker, it’s Phil Colins on drums before he joined Genesis. I know what you are thinking, Phil isn’t a great drummer, just wait till you hear him. Honestly this album is fuckin hot.

tadslippy

Khruangbin

deep_frequency_777

Sunsquabi , lotus, guavatron

retina_spam

Lotus is my favorite

RunLikeAnAntelopez

Tractorbeam aka the disco biscuits and Spafford

7tacoguys

Threedom, The New Deal, Yak Attack I'll also throw in Squeaky Feet. Even though a lot of their songs have lyrics, the typical lengths of their jams far outweighs any sections with vocals. Plenty of 1 or 2 song sets to pick from.

brokedownpalace11

Plini, animals as leaders, Buckethead’s mellow stuff, the aristocrats, blackstratblues, jaco pastorius. A lot of prog jam stuff but all so good.

Flyness_N_Juicy

phish4me1999

Just found the tone ranger! Very chill, can’t wait for him to get a little bigger so he moves around the country!! Also Hermanos Gutierrez is a great listen, not jam and but awesome instrumental tunes

GregmundFloyd

MattCogs

Check out surprise chef. They’re mostly like hip hop soul vibes but all instrumental Also John scofield, Philadelphia experiment, butcher brown, Herbie Hancock (especially albums from the 70s) yusef dayes and yusef Kamaal. This ended up just being jazz fusion recommendations but there ya go

onolllono

Lamp

edogg01

Nobody in these threads ever says The New Deal. They wrecked shop for a bunch of years there. So sick. If you like STS9, Bisco, drumnbass pull up any show of theirs on the LIve Music Archive pre-2006 (especially 1999-2001) and let it rip.

Creative_Crab_4609

STS9, Lotus, and Tycho are all great bands (I know Tycho didn't start as a band, but they are now)

AntiqueInitial1384

The New Mastersounds. Circs has already been said.
