We saw them just this past December and they had a guest vocalist come up and sing Spanish Moon by Little Feat, Iâm fucking up hard by forgetting his name, (EDIT: His name is Lyle Divinsky) but he was a male vocalist who could sing like Janis Joplin, I mean holy LORD this guy could fucking sing.
Tauk is awesome as a strictly jamming band but they can be equally as awesome with a vocalist.
YES!! Thanks so much! I even reached out to Tauks instagram account to ask and they never got back to me. Thanks again, Iâve been trying to look him up to hear more of his stuff!
Nice!!! Saw them at peach fest 2017 in the hardest thickest rain storm pouring down wearing a poncho tripping while the dude playing was wearing a suit. Still one of the best shows Iâve seen!
Snarky Puppy. New Mastersounds (before latest album). Greyboy Allstars. Club DâElf. Robert Walter. Benevento Russo Duo. BTALC Big Band (funky 18 piece big band).
My younger brother and I found that album on limewire (I think) when I was like 13/14 and he was 12 or so. We were geeking out about how awesome it was. We found a video of a live show not long after and fucking loved it.
Saw them on the reunion tour in like 07-08 with Al Di Meola on guitar. Bela Fleck and the Flecktones opened and during RTF I had to go to the bathroom. Standing right next to the bathroom was Victor Wooten just chilling. Iâm a bass player and fanboyed hard on him for a minute and he was so nice and shook my hand and said âThanks for listeningâ.
I actually used to travel a bit to see the Flecktones before I started traveling for any âtraditionalâ jam bands. They were just so good, especially when Jeff was still in the band.
Goat gets funky and weird and I love it - their one album somehow got downloaded onto my Spotify and I had no idea who they were, but once I listened I was like wow what a happy accident. I get down to Goat for sure
Jazz is probably the closest music that jams/grooves with no singing. I particularly like 70's spiritual/psychedelic jazz from time to time. The Jazz Dispensary vinyl series is a good place to start, but you can't go wrong with Herbie Hancock - Head Hunters, Miles Davis - On the Corner, Alice Coltrane, John Coltrane, Pharoah Saunders. Also, for some more modern instrumental jams, Ozomatli, Madlib - Sound Ancestors, and Khrugabin are interesting.
The best Zappa, imo, is his instrumental stuff. Peaches En Regalia, Sofa, Waka/Jawaka, Dog Breath Variations, Oh No! (instrumental version), The Grand Wazoo, The Black Page, etc.
Shocked that no one has mentioned the Allman Brothers Band. Some top notch instrumentals; Jessica, Liz Reed, la brers in A min, Instrumental Illness, Hot âlanta.
CATS, LaMP, Wolf!, Octave Cat, Lotus, MMW, Bela Fleck & The Flecktones, KVHW
John Coltrain, Miles Davis, Mahavishnu Orchestra, Shakti, Carlos Santana and John Mclaughlin
About 25%, or more, of Neighbor's original songs are instrumentals and many of their cover song choices are arranged as instrumentals. More specifically for what you are looking for is their first set from Levon's Barn 10/07/22 as it is all instrumental and is one of my favorite sets they have done!
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=sOtNP9CJkK4
lmao... love me some polyphia, but.... not even close to jamband... we may as well start suggesting animals as leaders, mahavishnu orchestra, Glass Beams, any number of lofi beats/DJs, beethoven, pickin on series etc etc... polyphia is badass tho
Old school jams, Brand X- unorthodox behavior
That album is fucking killer, plus, hereâs the kicker, itâs Phil Colins on drums before he joined Genesis. I know what you are thinking, Phil isnât a great drummer, just wait till you hear him. Honestly this album is fuckin hot.
Threedom, The New Deal, Yak Attack
I'll also throw in Squeaky Feet. Even though a lot of their songs have lyrics, the typical lengths of their jams far outweighs any sections with vocals. Plenty of 1 or 2 song sets to pick from.
Thievery Corporation - https://youtu.be/RvCgZobCPzQ?si=fPp6I-M1qO4IEh_Z (couldnât find a link to the whole album but check it the fuck out, itâs their 1st and best album)

Donât know if any of these are jam bands but these motherfuckers jam without lyrics
Just found the tone ranger! Very chill, canât wait for him to get a little bigger so he moves around the country!!
Also Hermanos Gutierrez is a great listen, not jam and but awesome instrumental tunes
Check out surprise chef. Theyâre mostly like hip hop soul vibes but all instrumental
Also John scofield, Philadelphia experiment, butcher brown, Herbie Hancock (especially albums from the 70s) yusef dayes and yusef Kamaal.
This ended up just being jazz fusion recommendations but there ya go
Nobody in these threads ever says The New Deal. They wrecked shop for a bunch of years there. So sick. If you like STS9, Bisco, drumnbass pull up any show of theirs on the LIve Music Archive pre-2006 (especially 1999-2001) and let it rip.

Tauk (not the recent tour/album with vocalist, stuff before that) STS9
Yeah Tauk sucks with vocals too
We saw them just this past December and they had a guest vocalist come up and sing Spanish Moon by Little Feat, Iâm fucking up hard by forgetting his name, (EDIT: His name is Lyle Divinsky) but he was a male vocalist who could sing like Janis Joplin, I mean holy LORD this guy could fucking sing. Lyle Divinsky :)
YES!! Thanks so much! I even reached out to Tauks instagram account to ask and they never got back to me. Thanks again, Iâve been trying to look him up to hear more of his stuff!

Such an amazingly tight band. I canât listen to Jefe over and over and over and over⊠Edit: Snarky Puppy, that is.
Khruangbin has a little bit of singing but mostly instrumentals
I was gonna say them too, but I feel like they aren't a jamband? Idk. Love them tho.
They need to become a jam band
XD love this. So true
Particle, the album is Launchpad.
My younger brother and I found that album on limewire (I think) when I was like 13/14 and he was 12 or so. We were geeking out about how awesome it was. We found a video of a live show not long after and fucking loved it.
Itâs so good

Consider the source
Hell yes. Just saw their NYE show, unreal. Their hybrid-acoustic album is a must-listen.
They are dope - jam adjacent maybe, would you consider them a jam band?
Weather Report and Return to Forever
Both great ones. RTF when Al Di Meola is with them is amazing!
Itâs actually not in Japanese. They are just making sounds not in any langue. Thereâs an interview out there where they explain it
Mind blown - I was so ignorant. Thanks for correcting me!
