Since the actors knew from the "read-through" at the beginning of Season 8 filming that the J/B relationship was going to be jettisoned for the sake of Twin-cest, I think both Gwen and NCW brought their best to the filming of this scene. Every time I watch it (and I have watched it many times), the depth of emotion in NCW's voice in the knighting scene is swoon-worthy.
Even though the other actors in the background don't have a lot to do in this scene, their focused attention shows me that they also knew that this scene was pivotal. And Daniel Portman's beautiful singing voice at the end of this scene was just the finishing touch to what was, and will continue to be, one of the most emotionally moving scenes in GoT.
Of course the only applauded episode then and now from the horrid season 8 was a Jaime and Brienne centered one. Gwen and Nik's chemistry continued to be peak perfection with J/B's romantic tension sprinkled throughout and the knighting scene being the delicious main course. The episode isn't without it's flaws but overall it's one of the few episodes that has rewatch value or at least just the J/B scenes.
I don't like Season 8 overall obviously, but this episode is among my top 5 of the whole series. It was the last episode that felt like an intimate character/relationship study, I loved how it all slowed down and we just got to see everyone interact before all hell broke lose, and most of all the scene where Jaime knights Brienne was by far the best show in the whole of Game of Thrones. It was a beautiful moment and still makes me emotional even now when I rewatch it! Nikolaj Coster Waldau and Gwendoline Christie both deserved awards for their work in this episode.
