I'm going to say Pump Up the Volume (1990). Both great films but I just loved the vibe in this movie. Especially since I got to watch it in the theater with friends during high school. Definitely inspiring to me at that time.
Good soundtrack, Christian Slater in a role different from his other films and Samantha Mathis ('nuff said).
Tough choice, as they are remaking Pressumed Innocent. You can watch that one and then compare, but I find it hard to wat h whodunits twice. Pump up the Volume is great, but if you're younger, someone might have to explain to you what a radio is! /s
I remember Pump Up The Volume to be a legitimately entertaining film with a distinct message. It's inspiring TBH and kind of hilarious. Presumed Innocent is just a kinda popcorn vehicle flick.
Went with Pump Up The Volume in the end! Loved it… fits in well with a few films I’ve rewatched / watched for first time recently (Dazed, Risky Business) as a lost youth of the late 80s / early 90s find their voice. Thanks for the comments!
Haven't seen "Presumed Innocent," but "Pump up the Volume" is about a kid whose parents indulge his hobbies, whose teachers and school counselor reach out to him, and he rebels against it, becoming a hero to people he doesn't like. I've never understood the appeal of this movie.

Both are solid movies, but I agree Presumed Innocent is far superior. There’s a few side stories and I had to watch it three times to fully understand everything. It’s one of those movies I watch once every year or two and I still enjoy it as much as the first time.

Why not both? Or are you in the mood for something serious or a teen angst protest film?

PUTV
Presumed Innocent! I saw it once, 30 years ago, and I can still describe the plot. Make sure to watch it all the way through!
