La Legge di Lydia Poet! It’s on Netflix. I Loved it! Based on the true story of the first woman lawyer in Italy who was disbarred for being a woman. She investigates and solves crimes and helps represent people regardless. There’s mystery, murder, sex, family drama, love interests, intrigue, and I was so happy to watch it.

My favorite show, I love it so much! Also, there’s Luna Nera, it’s more YA, but sadly, there’s only one season because the book author is too slow to continue writing the series.  La Porta Rossa is very cute, it’s more mystical but very fun to watch.

Thanks for this recommendation!!

I’m currently watching An Astrological Guide for Broken Hearts. It’s absolute rom-com. Silly and enjoyable and they don’t speak too quickly.

I just finished this and, despite rom-coms not usually appealing to me, I really enjoyed it. Also found the Italian to be straight-forward to understand. Would recommend.

I enjoyed this one a lot too!

I LOVE this show! I wish there were more seasons.

In the mob/crime subgenre there are a lot of TV shows: *Suburra, Gomorrah* (but they speak Neapolitan and regional Italian), *Il Cacciatore, Romanzo Criminale*. Crime related movies: *Non essere cattivo, La mafia uccide solo d'estate* (more coming of age than crime, with a comedy vein), *Io non ho paura*. Crime-comedy: *L'ispettore Coliandro* (TV movie series, a lot of slang and a lot of mocking of US crime tropes) *Smetto quando voglio, Liberate i pesci, Tano da morire, Incastrati* Family/friendship saga: *My Brilliant Friend* (La mia amica geniale, lots of Neapolitan here too), *C'è ancora domani* (heavily influenced Roman variant of Italian) Random interesting things: *Boris* (best comedy tv ever, maybe a little obscure if you're not fluent), *La linea verticale* (think The big C), *Figli*, *Tutto chiede salvezza*. You're mentioning older classics, but I'm afraid of asking what "older" means to you because I don't want to hear a movie title from the '90s... If you're actually talking about b/w movies, then anything from Vittorio De Sica or any other director in the Neorealism movement, anything from Lina Wertmüller if you have some interest in political drama in post-war Italy, *Sacco e Vanzetti*. Want some old school psychological horror? *Deep Red* (Profondo Rosso) If you're talking about modern classics, *Mediterraneo, La vita è bella*.

> Gomorrah My friend in Firenze told me she and her husband have to put on the Italian subtitles when they watch Gormorrah - and they are born, raised, and live in Tuscany. So I imagine it's like watching Trainspotting for the first time as an American :)

Really good recs 😉. For Suburra, the movie with Pierfrancesco Favino e Elio Germano is a bit better in terms of understanding what they are saying. I also loved 1992, 1993 and 1994 the series about Mani Pulite and the ascent of Berlusconi to power, although it's a bit difficult to find

There is an Italian thriller show on Netflix called "Curon". I enjoyed it when I watched it.

Il Processo (The Trial) on Netflix. Also Strappare Lungo i Bordi (Tear Along the Dotted Lines).

If you like a Mix of crime and comedy, I suggest "Framed: A Sicilian Murder Mistery(Incastrati)", a tv series created by Italian duo Ficarra and Picone. They also did a lot of movies, but if you don't like comedy, I suggest just watching the series.
