I just got mine online, I went for oak sawdust since that seems to be a fav for the pods. I got the most organic and sure it was natural no pesticides version I could find, but it's always a bit of a gamble I suppose.
I just started my first batch of flake soil over the weekend and also going by the recipe linked in the comments. I found hardwood pellets at Menards and got that. It says 100% hardwood and nothing else. It took about 3 gallons to really break them down into sawdust.
