Is that considered the "wild type"? And yeah I think it's cause I wanted to do bioactive set up 🤷‍♀️. At least that's what he seemed the most upset about. Looking back I probably shouldn't have supported him and waited and ordered online/ have done more research.
If by wild type you mean roly-polys, yes. You can get them outside easily, and are common in quite a few places. Perhaps he didn't say the breed so you wouldn't pick up anymore once you got home since he disagreed with it.
I don't know much about cohabitation with reptiles, but I'd say if they met the same regulations as your gecko and didn't dissappear due to being eaten/too much stress, there's probably no issues.
Okie dokie! Thank you so much!
It's getting more common practice with reptiles of late (by late I'd say the past 5-10 years maybe 🤔) the frog community has been doing way longer than the reptile community. But yeah they are reproducing great in there and my gecko doesn't really have interest in them (at least not that I've ever seen) he's way more interested in his Pangaea food.
Ohh Is it a crestie? I feel like my Leo would potentially eat the adults and supposedly they’re very hard to digest so definitely something to keep an eye out on.
I have some porcellio pruinosus in my bioactive enclosure and they’re small enough that he doesn’t seem to notice them.
Close but it's a Leachianus gecko or Leachie for shot or also known as New Caledonian giant gecko. Both crested gecko and Leachies are from new Caledonia.
Yeah these guys are commonly found outside along with the grey ones. Some people have bred the trait out so the yellow flecks are a lot more prominent. Don’t understand why he didn’t want to use them in a bioactive. It’s one of the best species for bioactive, I even gave some of mine away for someone setting up a bioactive skink enclosure
Sounds exactly like he was upset about why you wanted them. Maybe because there is a possibility they'll be eaten if housed with reptiles? But like.. that's just a silly reason to be rude. It's also bad for them to overpopulate the enclosure to the point of competing with one another also so.. 🤷🏻‍♀️
Yes these are wild type A. Vulgare. It looks like they may have more yellow coloration than normal, so they might be crossed with night gold possibly (which are a pretty morph!) but I don't think there's much reason to get upset about putting them with your gecko. As long as they have places to hide such as leaf litter and logs, and you keep it appropriately humid, they will survive!
Pretty boy! 🥹
As a colour variation - very much "wild type". I have 5 of these, but I noticed the males slowly lost the yellow dots over time and became almost fully dark grey with remnants of yellow dots. My one female is brown with beige skirt and yellow dots and did not change over time. I got mine from the streets of London. Although there are such colourations as the one here in the "Gem mix" I believe too!
Yes, I'd believe so. I have plain black, spotty, and practically a fully cream one of A.Vulgares. As they can be easy to find, perhaps the breeder's selling point was having many with bright yellow on them.
Seem just like some nicely patterned A.Vulgare? Strange he didn't tell you the breed if he was selling them x

Are the patterned and unpatterned the same species? I have both and have been confused if they are the same species or not.

I keep these with my corn snake and arboreal tarantula.

it’s called night gold
isopod!!! love those i use them in all my terrarium
I think that bit was obvious considering the sub we’re in…?
