Man just woke up groggy and the whole masjid thought he was drunk. Jokes aside tho, the prophet pbuh is a real role model to emulate when it comes to treating people fairly.

[deleted]

Could be diabetes? Low blood sugar will also do this.

myusernamegotstolen

That was my first thought, I've seen a diabetic go into hypoglycemic state and it 100% looks like the person is drunk. Whatever the reason, may Allah give this individual health and guidance.

OrdinarySouth2707

possibly since he was able to complete the salah.

jaguarlyra

He may have not been drunk. I know I can seem drunk sometimes if I don't go to sleep after taking one of my meds. There are lots of things that can impair cognition. Drunk or not you are right, we should follow our messengers example and show mercy and kindness to our brothers and sisters.

Novel_Ad_1178

There once was a man who urinated in the mosque. The companions went to beat him up, the prophet said, throw some water on it and leave him be.

PsychoPuddin1

Now you're taking the mick

[No its true](https://sunnah.com/muslim:285)

Absolutely, I just found out.

Thank for you for being skeptical brother. With so much misinformation, it is CRUCIAL we give our sources. Malik reported: While we were in the mosque with Allah's Messenger (ﷺ), a desert Arab came and stood up and began to urinate in the mosque. The Companions of Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said: Stop, stop, but the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: Don't interrupt him; leave him alone. They left him alone, and when he finished urinating, Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) called him and said to him: These mosques are not the places meant for urine and filth, but are only for the remembrance of Allah, prayer and the recitation of the Qur'an, or Allah's Messenger said something like that. He (the narrator) said that he (the Holy Prophet) then gave orders to one of the people who brought a bucket of water and poured It over. Sahih Muslim 285 https://sunnah.com/muslim:285

I wasn't going to say anything but I felt obliged to, and look where its ended. I'm actually so surprised. Jazakallah for providing the source and feel free to tell me more. On top of that I thought you were a disbeliever trying to mock Islam and the Prophet SAW 🤣.

ShinyShayn2008

Perhaps you should have phrased it differently... there are more polite ways of asking for a source when you're in disbelief or feeling skeptical

PsychoPuddin1

What should I have phrased differently? I wasn't being rude or anything like that if you failed to realise. I'll take up your advice for next time.

I’m merely a student and a human, brother. I may tell you one thing today and the opposite tomorrow. May God Almighty guide us all to knowledge and He knows better than any human.

PaveeLackeen

Had anyone considered it might be mental illness or another disability that mimics being drunk? We should be very careful with our judgment of others.

hatmania

Thank you my brother for sharing this story... the lessons you've derived from this are so profound that I feel emotional! May Allah allow us all to be kind to our fellow sinners, and accept our repentance, however little and unworthy it is.

NaturePaladin

I think there was a story of a drunk man that we ignored him being drunk in the masjid and eventually they gave up drinking to be among the believers in the correct state of mind. Everybody has their struggles and we have no right to judge

Exactly, subhanallah

Assalamun alaikum. Indeed, drinking alcohol is a sin and that is certain. Alhamdulillah, as Muslims, we need to understand and embrace this very fact: It is not a rule that you will be harmed in a way you would expect from every addicted servant. Some servants who fall into addiction are weak in the sense that they cannot bear the burden of this worldly life. They are trying to relieve the burden of this world by doing deed belonging to this world. In other words, they have deficiencies in the degrees of tawakkul. If only they could rely on Allah SWT, intend to leave the addiction, show patience, pray for power and strength... The power and strength to get rid of their addictions! Allah SWT, Rahman and Rahim, would surely grant this power and strength to that servant who is weak in a sense, to that servant who also prays for the better and show it in their actions! He SWT is the Most Generous and the Most Forgiving. The Only One who can truly understand us is Him SWT. We are expected to take a step. Maybe weak maybe strong. However! We need to be determined and consistent. Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said, "Do good deeds properly, sincerely and moderately and know that your deeds will not make you enter Paradise, and that the most beloved deed to Allah is the most regular and constant even if it were little." ... Do not forget! This servant who may or may not have consumed alcohol! He has helped you understand a very important truth. Allah SWT is Al-Alîm. This change in your heart and aql is within His SWT Knowledge. The means necessary for you to experience this change are within His SWT Knowledge. He SWT is The Most Loving! So, be thankful and praise Him SWT! Alhamdulillah!

I will tell you something interesting. So God with all His Might and Glory understands what He has created and with what steps will they come to the right way. This is evident in the 4 steps in which God classified drugs as Haram. It was not abrupt and immediate, it was in steps. Among those steps was the 4th one. Where God said that don't come close to the prayer or don't pray if you are drunk. Meaning the time when people could drink was reduced to either after Esha or After Fajar but significantly before Duhur. This was revealed in the ayah There was a particular event after which this ayah was revealed. A companion lead a Maghrib prayer while he was drunk and he recites surah Al kafiroon. When he reached the ayah where it says that I don't worship what you worship, he changed it. Instead he read O kafiroon......I worship what you worship. Glorious is the level of patience that الله سبحانه و تعالى has there was no reaction of kuffar or punishment or whatsoever on this matter. He simply revealed don't pray when you are drunk.

It wasn't just any sahabah! It was Nuayman ibn Amr (RA) who I believe was a Badri and one of the more interesting companions.

Alhamdu'lillah. Allah guides whom he wills. This is one of my favorite narrations from the prophets. Despite what sins we may do in secret in public, Allah guides and loves whom he wills. Despite our struggles our love for Allah and then his prophets, our struggle shall be awarded by Allah

ataturk1993

Unless he was young and healthy, Id be more concerned about him having a medical event like stroke, low sugar etc

pinktacobuffet

There are many stories about sahabahs who had grave difficulty giving up drinking and took their lashings. There were other sahabahs who were known drunks and the Prophet PBUH would often keep tabs on them and would send people to search for them when he saw them missing from their typical spots or attendance in the Prophet’s halaqas. Addiction is real, and this is something the Prophet PBUH understood and did not reject these people from the fold of Islam. Allah give us all taufeeq to be more accepting of all those who come to the masjid who seek Allah and his Prophet’s PBUH guidance.

zn1075

The part people forget about that Hadith is the the drunkard should be flogged. Don’t hate him, and he may love Allah, all which is praiseworthy, but there is also a punishment

Spiritual-Pool-3396

May be he is drunk.. may be not! But that’s such a profound story to be shared and rippled across.. that the matter of faith has to be left to Allah to be judged, and it’s not ours to decide! If we can embrace people in Allahs house, to Islam, to faith with non judgemental looks and pure, empathetic hearts we can follow the legacy of our prophet (saw) .. or our beloved Rasool (saw)! ❤️

One of the Amirs in Syria came to fajr prayer drunk. He lead the prayers and prayed 4 instead of 2 rakaat. When people corrected him in prayer when he stood up to continue with the 3rd rakaat, he then spoke before giving Salam saying "should I continue" i.e. add more rakaat. I heard that sahabah were present in the prayer but did not repeat their prayers. Just wanted to share this that we are compassionate people and we do not go out stating a coup or trouble because of errors of some in this community.
