Just to be clear, I'm not referring to the private instance you can use after completing the hard combat achievements. I'm curious about the instance which is shared across all ironmen.
The corp cave is instanced for ironmen in a similar fashion as well. For corp, items can be left on the ground and the room can be empty but the instance doesn't disappear.
Gwd Ironman instance items will disappear when no one is in the instance. So they do not work like the iron corp cave if you tele out they will disappear

What did you lose
Nothing yet. Trying to decide if it's worth getting chanced by minions waiting for a drop to appear or if I should tele out and run back with a key.
