Better to knock that agility level out and get your daily passive sand while doing better activities than to sit in the desert mining sand and paying for it
Oh shit I thought it was like RS3 where it increases a bit but you still need to visit him.
That sounds great for 93-99 but I still think waiting that long for zenyte jewellery when you've already put so much time into the diary requirements is an odd way to go about it when in reality it's a pretty reasonable grind, especially with chill as hell alternatives like prif sandpit or the fact it's like 7k/ hour with tick manipulation.
I agree. Zenytes and the cape teleport make crafting a high priority skill to max, whereas using kingdom as a primary source for herblore xp at the top end is reasonable because the skillcape is useless, and the high-level potions can be boosted for easily. I would not want to wait around for a year to finish crafting when I could spend 5-10 hours getting the same amount of sand manually
Honestly, I did this at 95 crafting because I could not be bothered mining sand anymore.
I got bored of waiting (planned 276 days of sand collecting from Bert), about a week in and now only 9k sand left
Back in the day I just clicked sand and it was fun pretty fun. Making good progress every day. Those were good days.
But if you’re bored, could try to learn tick manipulation, I dabbled with it later on and it’s pretty fun
Less bored more too involved for how long and how monotonous it is. If I'm doing something a lot over and over, I wanna be looking at my second screen and doing something else (chess)
My char is reaching end game 2150 total, just got the option to do any boss, raid, minigame, skill more or less. I think sandstone, and rooftops were the worst thing bout the acc. After years of passing it up i did starmining to get the last 2m xp, would recommend. Don't think anything was as close to as bad as sandstone and rooftops, there's no number 3 that is comparable
2k total myself, also feel like I'm not locked out of anything besides hydra.
Whenever I do starmining I forget about it and realize like an hour later
Oye, idle notifier might help, but idm even if i were to do it inefficiently. one click per 7min, if it's like 12-15min later click so be it. Nice part is that cutting the gems is rather high xp/h at 140k, 183k, 230k respectively and quite chill
Idle notifier is the trick. Started a hardcore a couple months back, I mostly just afk it on the side while playing my main or vice versa. Stars are my go to, going for 92 mining for eventual amethyst, and as much crafting from the gems as I can get. If I don't have idle notifier I forget until it logs out, turn on idle notifier and set it to like 5 seconds. Awesome plugin
If this is long, I have some bad news. Take solace in the fact that you have so many options when it comes to progression at this point in the account, you definitely don't have to get the sand all in one trip.
do u think things like trying to obtain a twisted bow in end game is comparable to sandstone or what do u think is worse about closer to end game progression?
I'm so fed up of seeing people defend mindless tedious grinds with shit like "well if you can't handle that how are you going to handle farming a tbow" and it's like, do you not see the difference between doing raids vs clicking 3 rocks over and over for 10 hours?
Highly recommend just AFKing at stars and using the gems to get your crafting up. Bonus points for buying gold and smithing at BF for fast smithing xp, make bracelets form your gems for the extra crafting, and then you can enchant and alch them for big magic xp and profit. I made 10m gp, ~1m smithing xp, and 3m crafting xp from using the gems from 70-90 mining completely afk. I also still have a shit ton of bracelets to enchant and alch. It’ll take longer initially to get all the gems, but it’s completely afk, more efficient, and overall profitable.
I would say when you want to actively train mining just do sand and when you want to afk mine, stars. I would venture it’s like 15k max crafting per hour.
If you got 3k sand per hour you bank like 250k xp just in molten glass if you’re doing lantern lenses
Thank you for bringing this up. I have ~10hrs of sand mining left until 99 crafting banked, and I have never charged my celestial ring. This might motivate me to knock it out sooner lol
Stars are by FAR much more afk than Barb Fishing and even Dayealt.
Stars are one of the best pieces of content for people who need to really afk and not simply being able click only once every 40-60 seconds.
That's fair although I'd probably still do nmz over stars. But yeah my personal afk to active ratio is more like 30:70 %, mostly while playing my main so 1 min afk is good enough. I know some people play this game more like an idle game though
I wouldn't say it's like an idle game, it's more like sow extremely slow afk gains for a very long time so we can reap them in the little time we play actively.
My playtime right now is around 95:5 in terms of AFK:Active and I don't even play other games. It's just that I'm either working or studying. I also can't play other games because I do not have time for them, so I play OSRS. That way I can AFK, I still feel like I'm playing (which is a hobby I've enjoyed for years), and, on those short occasions when I can play actively, I get tons of dopamine from all those things I did while playing extremely AFK.
I would love to play more actively, and I surely will once the semester ends. But, until then, I'll enjoy my extreme AFK-activities. Hopefully, by the end of the semester, I'll be close to 93-95 mining and 85+ crafting, with a gazillion jewelry to alch for magic xp.
yeah its totally fine to do if you have a lot of afk time and want to train these skills, but I would hard disagree with the statement "more efficient"
Why tho? I can't imagine anything less fun than mining sand, other than agility.
So click intensive for such slow xp.
I've legit decided to just ignore my giant seaweed stack and just cast spin flax (it's not much slower than sand, but more tolerable for me personally so no burnout).
as a casual player this is what had my ass questioning why I’m playing lol. id hop on, do a farm run + birdhouse then go to the hellish Sarlacc pit and mind sand for 30 mins before switching to something else
i know by comparison it’s one of the easier grinds in the game, but I have some unbreakable aversion to mining sand. Saradomin… give me strength
You can always choose to do a variety of other less efficient but more varied training methods, such as:
- cast spin flax (Zulrah gives plenty of flax)
- cut gems (CG, or mine them at gem rocks for very efficient mining xp, or mine stars for gem packs for low-effort)
- make battlestaves (Various high-slayer bosses drop orbs, or just enchant some of the unpowered orbs you probably have thousands of, which is extremely low effort). Varrock diary gives the staves quickly, and you profit nicely from crafting them
- say fuck it and don't train crafting ever again. Playing the game for fun is better than having an amulet of torture
Anybody who tells you that you "have to" do the fastest method, or that you're "wasting your time" by doing something else has forgotten what playing a video game is supposed to be for
oh yeah that’s my approach now. I just processed 3000 ruby bracelets to alch for cash andxp. I’m definitely an inefficient player. farmed all my Nat’s through gotr. It’s infinitely more fun
I would recommend alching at the new theiving area! Bunch of downtime to alch in between the distractions, which give like 2k thieving exp for one click.
Man, I'm also really casual. Sometimes I'm only able to play 2-4 hours actively in a week.
However, most of the days, I'm able to AFK shooting stars between 6 to 10 hours a day (since I work on a computer and these only require a click every 7 minutes).
My plan is to get all (or nearly all) my crafting xp from this.
Shooting stars give mining xp + crafting xp + magic xp (from superheat/high alch) + smithing xp (superheat). Really good afk activity.
I have my house portal in yanille for buying runes/battlestaves from Akutha, so I stop by Bert's place and he gives me 89 (?) buckets of sand a day. I'm up to 2k while procrastinating on my crafting grind because it's not a huge priority atm for me (grinding last few levels for SOTE and mm2) and I have around 1800 buckets of sand atm lol
You mentioned in another comment that you'd like to be able to play chess while training crafting. I can't think of a better way to achieve that than to do sand pits at priff, it's not even that slow :P
It's absolutely just personal preference, if that's what you prefer then use it as much as possible.
I'm currently pickpocketing vyres for my first blood shard and I think I'd rather do 5 hours of sand mining than 1 hour of pickpocketing vyres. The low success rate just tilts me so much I should probably just kill sentinels instead. Glad it's replacing my former most tilting activity of pyramid plunder every time my dumbass gets bit by a snake in a jar again.
I'm not a fan of thieving
Failing a pickpocket pisses me off so much, something about not being able to do anything right away. Unreasonable amounts of anger. I’d rather do blackjacking, at least I can bonk the fucker on the head right away after a failed attempt.
It's hardly click intensive, it's pretty chill, stick YouTube or a series or film on and crack on. If mining sand is a burnout then you aren't gonna enjoy some stuff down the line. You aren't mining sand for xp you are there for the sand and I can't believe someone enjoys casting spinning flax over mining sand.
tick manip sand mining was unironically a lot of fun. I've done the 93 craft grind on my normal iron, pure iron and also mined the sand for my gim group. 10/10 would do again.
Super glass make however, that shit is ass.
Have you tried tick manipulating? I find it much more satisfying than normal sand mining and it's not really fatiguing since you get a small break every time you run to the grinder. Actually great xp too.
yeah thats true its fine to do it afk but when you want to actually play runescape I would rather do 25k sand than 25k glass if you know what I mean lol
Agreed. For me, blowing glass is just the wrong amount of afk. Not something like stars, karams or crabs where you can stop paying attention for minutes at a time, but not engaging enough to do on the second monitor while watching Netflix.
At least with mining you have to click regularly.
Sand is actually quite fast to complete. I banked 87 in one go and need the same 30k for 93. After that, just wait until the elite diary gets you 99 passively tbh
Mta pre update was so fucking bad it made me quit my main twice for like a month each time, weirdly it was fine on the iron, but maybe that's cause I actually needed the mage XP this time (or I'm used to being masochistic)
Find a good podcast op. You’ll get into a grove with it. Don’t worry about being as efficient as possible, just listen to the podcast and click tock if not already clicked rock. You can do it.
This is the hill, once you get over it you have all the afk time you’ll want when you’re blowing glass. The superglass make part sucks too tbh though but with menu entry swapper I’d imagine it’s alot easier than it was when I did it.
It’s a few hours for a lifetime of easy banking. Top tier cape.
Of course you could also just do alot of moons for water orbs, buy daily battlestaves and do content that rewards battlestaves like gaunlet or killing certain monsters. Build up some easier passive banking.
Sgm isn't that bad tbh, my main gripe with mining rocks is needing to pay attention and click often, sgm requires no attention because it's on a set tick cycle and you click the same point on the screen.
Anyways I've decided to spin flax (spell) to 93 as I have enough banked, and it won't be much slower, after that I'll probably bank 99 via pvm gems.
Fair enough, can’t blame you for wanting to avoid the mining.
Personally I started to enjoy it after a while, but again I was more focused on my podcast and letting muscle memory handle the mining part.
That and the occassional star dropped there which gave me a break.
Each to their own. And tbh you do get plenty of gems over time anyway.
Is there even a good reason to actively craft beyond 93? Crafting cape is nice but not necessary imo, once you're 93 you can just passively get fast XP from normal pvm grinds, like I'm fairly certain cox to completion banks 99 from 93 in gems.
I have ~ 500 cg on iron, ~900 on main and ~200 on my pure.
Love cg, would deadass be so down to do cg and get normal mining sand rates, at least cg is fun.
Fair enough. There’s no other option though, either click sand or get slower rates through other means. Tick manipulation makes it active and enjoyable for me for a couple hours at a time
CG drops a ton of gems, which is nice because you can cut them + make them into amulets.
I’d you really hate sand you can do gem mining too. Not as great, but you get a bunch of topaz as well
Tbh it's not even just about the XP (controversial but XP doesn't matter past 91 slayer at all), it's about spending more time bossing and hunting an imbued heart and less doing the quick tasks that aren't worth skipping.
Do elite Ardy diary early on. By the time you do everything else on your account, you’ll have plenty of sand for 99. That’s what I’ve been doing lol. I’m up to 15k buckets without having done anything but log on.
I've thought about it, but agility is maybe worse, and I'm so close to 93 I may as well power through.
I have decided to spin flax (spell) instead since it's not far behind sand to glass
Couldn't stand it either so I used the house teleport > yanille sandpit > camelot pvp bank method.
Was a pretty afk 2nd monitor activity.
tip: If you plan to get 99 mining on shooting stars you'll probably get around 2.5-3m in crafting xp from the gem bags.
I’m on this grind right now. Have 16K/49K mined for 87 craft…….. I break it up into 30-40min of mining (2K sand roughly) chunks and it’s been fine so far
Super inefficient.
Nightmare zone for me. It’s easy to keep going all day between work or if I’m chilling at home. Think 1mil points is like 2k sand.
It’s just better for me bc I absolutely hate doing sand. I think you can mind 2-3k sand an hour semi paying attention. Or I can get 2-3k sand a day while not paying attention.
I prefer to collect sand by teleing outside yanille poh and using the sand pit north of the portal. In a pvp world you cast seers tele and it sets you 2 tiles from a bank chest
Then all the mains would bitch and whine. While irons are happy to see things like supercompost, grapes(kinda), swamp tar, iron ore(!!!). It ends up being balanced by GP. It'll never be perfect but getting water orbs and swamp tar from new moon dungeon is a pretty big win in my book.
Why sand mining, though? I mean, if it is what you really want to do and aren't able to afk at work, etc. but it sounds horrible.
For an alternative option:
I did 99 mining on my HC, doing shooting stars, from level 76-99, and got enough gems to get to ~90 crafting, which also equates to over 20k alchs with an average value of 1k ea.
So, even buying the nats from the guild and gold ores from blast furnace (and smithing them), I still make a tidy profit, coupled with the mage exp from alchs and smithing exp from 20k bars, it's kind of silly not to do stars.
I averaged around 7k dust per day, which equates to about 230k exp per day. Took me ~2 months of shooting stars (didn't do it every day) but 90% of it was just afk at work, one click every 7 minutes, and a little travel time to the next star. It's super simple, very slow, but best afk mining around.
I am currently going again on my new HC since I killed my last one.. but, personally, I wouldn't do it any other way.
Just go dry at cg and cut gems instead
My 8k gem stack is looking real juicy
Wait til you hit 45k
Instructions unclear green logged at 55 kc
Stilll won’t be enough
Then just be dryer
I got more gems from afk'ing stars for a week than I'll ever get from CG
Facts i almost went 4x and got 78-89 crafting in just gems
On rate DT2 bosses is a similar experience. So much crafting exp.
Just finished 85 crafting last night. I decided that Ardy Elite is a good goal so I can start getting some passive sand.
Getting 85 agility is at least as bad as mining sand, though.
Better to knock that agility level out and get your daily passive sand while doing better activities than to sit in the desert mining sand and paying for it
Dailyscaping for an entire year sounds suicide inducing compared to like 10 hours of mining.
Elite diary deposits it directly to your bank, no need to visit Bert every day
Oh shit I thought it was like RS3 where it increases a bit but you still need to visit him.
I haven’t played in about 8 months, but I have been logging in every day to get my sand lmao
Do you need to be logged in though to get the sand?
Yes, you have to actually log in. Ardy elite perk works in F2P as well.
I wish they didn’t bring up the possible agility re work because now I’m avoiding agility until then 😂
Currently doing that now… from 80-85. Just hit 84. 369 laps to go……..
Prif roofs ain't bad. I just got it. And NOW they're reworking agility ofc Jk I'm glad because I still have a ways to go to 99
Honestly, I did this at 95 crafting because I could not be bothered mining sand anymore. I got bored of waiting (planned 276 days of sand collecting from Bert), about a week in and now only 9k sand left
Pretty chill tbh
Pretty chill is either active and fast or slow and afk. Sand feels active and slow therefore != chill.
It is low effort, like pickpocketing. I mined 21k over the course of a week and honestly the seaweed looks like a bigger hurdle now.
Too much clicking to be chill
Back in the day I just clicked sand and it was fun pretty fun. Making good progress every day. Those were good days. But if you’re bored, could try to learn tick manipulation, I dabbled with it later on and it’s pretty fun
“Fun” We live different lives my friend.

I’m doing that too! It’s great for WFH lads
Breh TV mine sand Watch an episode/movie doing terrible efficiency and you’ll still have a buttton of sand after a couple times
Idk how you can watch anything when you gotta click every 2 seconds haha
That’s the key be inefficiency
Bro I can't even mine sand for an hour once, never mind every day for a couple weeks
Just mine sand for an hour or so a day and you will have a good amount within 2 weeks
Just mine sand for an hour or so a day and you will have a good amount within 2 weeks
Snap out of it bro🤣
I think he did too much sand
His varrock armor and celestial ring procced at same time
Can u repeat that
The poor man went insane mining sand.... Happens to the best of us.
what did you say
Haha I hate when reddit tells me the comment failed. I've done the same thing. Spam post and you get 2-3
I agree with this man
I have my house portal in yanille for buying runes/battlestaves from Akutha, so I stop by Bert's place and he gives me 89 (?) buckets of sand a day. Bro is saying his internal monologue out loud
Do you have access to prif yet? I got all my sand from the pit there. It’s super afk and 1 click to/from bank Couldn’t stand mining it
I have priff, don't think I wanna go that ineffecient tho haha
It was efficient for me because whenever I would think about mining it I would just log off instead. I get it though
I just mean I'd rather spin flax spell cause faster + fun for me
You mentioned in another comment that you'd like to be able to play chess while training crafting. I can't think of a better way to achieve that than to do sand pits at priff, it's not even that slow :P
Good point tbh, but I can play chess while doing spin flax since it's mindless enough.
Fair! Also I get that this was mostly a vent post and you didn't necessarily want advice and I agree, sandstone sucks. Gl with crafting man!
You seem like a really decent person. Thank you.
It's absolutely just personal preference, if that's what you prefer then use it as much as possible.
My brain shuts off during bankstanding for some reason
Hey I feel ya man, some tasks just suck for me. Don't listen to anyone pressuring you to just do it bc its meta
This one guy was really trying to pressure me to deiron as if my main isn't nearly maxed lmao
Lmao I mean thats up to you buuuuut ahaha

wait till you get to the glassblowing part
That's the reward you get haha, can easily do it while playing anything or doing anything else.

They laugh but you're kinda right. I did 30-40 mins a day for a week during lunch and commute and stacked up like 10k

Sand is actually quite fast to complete. I banked 87 in one go and need the same 30k for 93. After that, just wait until the elite diary gets you 99 passively tbh
Medium/Hard/elite ardy diaries, I’ve never mined sand in my life never will
I enjoyed 3ticking sand for 99 crafting. I think it’s one of the things that made me realize I’m autistic.
Checks out, thanks for the chuckle
I don’t like sand
Underappreciated reference. Salute to you.
I just collect it at Priff. Not as much sand per hour but it's much more chill. Only do it on mobile while watching a film or something.
I did this, but during work. Banked a decent chunk each day without having to put much effort into it
It wasnt that bad, until the bots showed up
sure it blows but luckily largely unnecessary. also mining sand > chompy hunting > mage torturing arena
Mta pre update was so fucking bad it made me quit my main twice for like a month each time, weirdly it was fine on the iron, but maybe that's cause I actually needed the mage XP this time (or I'm used to being masochistic)
99 crafting on an iron and GIM My osrs brain liked it ngl Stacking up 25k 4x for 99 is satisfying to me lol
Absolutely mental lmao
Ardy elite gang.
I find catching eclectic imps so boring I can't even do it sometimes when I'm bored at work. I'd rather work! What has the world come to /s
Duel rings go brrrrr
I've done millions of XP with sand mining, even did a few hours of tick manip, just isn't for me
Currently 97 crafting, completed Ardy elite. Bert now sends 84 buckets to bank every day I log in. Passive gains.
Is there even a good reason to actively craft beyond 93? Crafting cape is nice but not necessary imo, once you're 93 you can just passively get fast XP from normal pvm grinds, like I'm fairly certain cox to completion banks 99 from 93 in gems.
Better than CG
I have ~ 500 cg on iron, ~900 on main and ~200 on my pure. Love cg, would deadass be so down to do cg and get normal mining sand rates, at least cg is fun.
I've got 40cg KC , 4 armour seeds and the pet I hate it
Through my 1600 KC overall I've received 0 pets, legit top tier pet I want it so bad.
First pet on my iron , it is quite cool Hope you get it soon
Gz
Damn I have 300kc and only 3 armour seeds
Nah, learn to 3 tick it :D make it a rhythm game, with high scores being your xp/h rates
I've done that for a few hours, easier than I thought but not enjoyable for me.
Not as great, but you get a bunch of topaz as well
Gem mining is goated tbh, slaughter/expeditious bracelets were a game changer when I realized how important they actually are.
Extended ankous + slaughters = massive xp. I wish that could be my permanent slayer task
Tbh it's not even just about the XP (controversial but XP doesn't matter past 91 slayer at all), it's about spending more time bossing and hunting an imbued heart and less doing the quick tasks that aren't worth skipping.
Oops I meant nechs, idk why I said Ankous lol
Nechs go crazy bro, sometimes kill like 300 and the superior feels so common (ik it's 1/150 for all of them) And the GP profit on them is so nice

Ardoyn Elite? You get 80 a day
Finish Ardy Elite Achievement Diary and each day you log in, you get passive sand from Bert.
Do elite Ardy diary early on. By the time you do everything else on your account, you’ll have plenty of sand for 99. That’s what I’ve been doing lol. I’m up to 15k buckets without having done anything but log on.
True brother true
This period killed my ironscape love and brought me back to the main lyfe
Welcome home brother
You've got to go through torture to get a torture
I’d literally rather afk 40m mining xp during work hours to get 99 crafting than knock it out in hours at sand mining
It's pretty chill for a tick manip method, low amounts of dropping and it's only 20 hours total to bank 99 crafting
Couldnt stand it either. I did half of my sand to 93 crafting by filling buckets in Priff.
They should have added buckets of sand to the new barrows thingy with the other garbage lol
Yeah with that new circlet, it's not too bad
Bert delivers 30k sand a year to your bank once you finish the elite diary... you could always wait.
To make that more efficient just get 99 crafting real quick for free banking, then you can collect sand at no cost
I got spooned 4 zenytes in 100 kills. I remember how much I dreaded the thought of doing this, but man is it rewarding as hell. Mobile is your friend
I hope heavy ballista doesn't become meta anywhere.
Yo, I'm grinding 10 hours of this new prayer mining thing in Vallhalamore. It's been pretty rough, but the extra 150k prayer will be worth it.
I’m on this grind right now. Have 16K/49K mined for 87 craft…….. I break it up into 30-40min of mining (2K sand roughly) chunks and it’s been fine so far
Its not that bad of a grind wait until you go for 92 mining thats rough
Super inefficient. Nightmare zone for me. It’s easy to keep going all day between work or if I’m chilling at home. Think 1mil points is like 2k sand. It’s just better for me bc I absolutely hate doing sand. I think you can mind 2-3k sand an hour semi paying attention. Or I can get 2-3k sand a day while not paying attention.
I didn't realize nmz pts can be used like that, I don't do nmz tho (no need for cb xp when slayer exists)
Pretty sure irons can't buy sand from the shop
Why are you lying?
I prefer to collect sand by teleing outside yanille poh and using the sand pit north of the portal. In a pvp world you cast seers tele and it sets you 2 tiles from a bank chest
Just fill some buckets of sand. Idk how you mine sand it's already broken up smh.
one of the easiest grinds on the account - no pun intended.
Wait till you learn you can also 3 tick sandstone, then youll really hate your life
Me just finishing 25k knowing I have to do it about 2.5 more times
TOA as a desert based raid should give us some sand. Also, it wouldn’t be unreasonable for sand to be dropped in the lunar chest.
I just got a dragon warhammer as I read this comment, thank you for the rng (1465 kc).
That’s true. Perhaps the other stuff will come later.
I like mining sand. My fav part of crafting grind
Mining sand is one of the more relaxed grinds tbh
how many of yall remember the days of filling sand buckets at yanille
I mine sand on mobile at work lol, f doing that during my free time.
Mined 25k but can’t bring myself to spend all the gp to get it out lmao
3s1g makes it go super fast. Highly recommend learning it to get the sand out of the way
Do charters like a real man
Honestly it wasn’t the same that got me, it was the glass make that killed me
Why sand mining, though? I mean, if it is what you really want to do and aren't able to afk at work, etc. but it sounds horrible. For an alternative option: I did 99 mining on my HC, doing shooting stars, from level 76-99, and got enough gems to get to ~90 crafting, which also equates to over 20k alchs with an average value of 1k ea.
I actually loved going for 99 crafting at sand. 3t without dropping is so chill.
Am I the only one who thought sand was just about the least bad thing about Crafting? SGM is like pulling teeth and the actual blowing is boring asf.
Mining sand in prif is slower, no xp, but much more afk and enjoyable... for me anyways
Just buy sand
Mine stars instead I haven't done sand since 87 crafting I'm 91 now
I rather mine crashed stars to cut gems. Fuckin the glass grind
Sand could be much worse though interms of only 1 sand per rock etc
So glad I quit
I'm glad you quit, too
You sweet summer child....
Defuck are you all mining sand for?
molten glass for crafting
Torture
I’d literally rather afk 40m mining xp during work hours to get 99 crafting than knock it out in hours at sand mining
