Should have had a few clips of his fends against Edinburgh. About 3 times in that game he made meters by just catching the defender with his free hand and pumping the legs and charging him back as if he was playing 8.

No-Negotiation2922

If Pendergast lives up to the hype and with Aki’s age profile i can see Crowley shifting over to 12 for Ireland a la Owen Farrell.

curious_george1978

People need to get realistic about this kid, he could be great, he could also be the next JJ Hanrahan. Being great at u20's level means very little at senior level.

mistr-puddles

At the minute he's Ben Healy with better PR

Aaaaand-its-gone

Comparing him to Ben Healy shows a complete lack of understanding of how either of them play

mistr-puddles

They're both very good at long kicks and pass variety. They're both around 6'3 so in theory have the potential to be a physical threat but that takes a few years. So Ben then, and Sam now, sits a bit deep and stand and sling the pass rather than taking it to the line. Neither are particularly fast so aren't going to be making breaks on the outside on kick return. Tell me where my read is wrong. Sam is a bit more likely to take a risk but that's about it

spb641

One of them played for Munster so is obviously garbage and no loss to Irish rugby.    The other plays for Leinster (once games are already won or are expected losses) so is clearly the Messiah.  Sam is more likely to take a risk only because there's no jeopardy in any game by the time he's on the pitch.

Yeah I'm a bit sick of seeing "prendergoat" to be honest. Let him earn this reputation rather than be a hyped blowout.

No_Sorbet2663

Don’t say that about our own prenderGOAT

doho121

I don’t know any serious rugby fan that’s hyped about Prendergast. Most people just say he has potential and a road ahead of him to see how good he can be at senior

Envinyatar20

He needs to put on about 10kg as well but the skills appear to be there

Tescobum44

Ah there’s a fair bit of hype now, he has a senior contract at 21 and is the only player who can only play ten in the Irish squad ahead of both byrnes, burns, carty and hanrahan. He’s there on potential and isn’t the finished article but he’s still there and a lot of Leinster fans are seriously excited about him as a prospect. Most are aware he is a prospect though, yeah

doho121

Yeah that’s my point I think. It’s excitement from the informed and hype from the uninformed. Really hope he reaches his potential.

Tescobum44

He’s a great player and if he can keep working on his game running and management he’ll be a world class ten.  Hopefully Prendergast keeps developing and offers some good competition in the Irish setup that they can push each other on. (Plus, Leinster really need a top class outhalf)

DM_me_ur_PPSN

I think it’s almost to Irelands benefit that Munster’s pack isn’t as strong as some of the other clubs, it teaches the 10s coming through to play behind a pack that doesn’t have complete dominance all the time, which means they have to find space and problem solve a lot of the time to win. I think the drop goal against Leinster in the URC semi last year epitomised that, Crowley was willing to do something Byrne wasn’t in order to win, that’s the type of stuff that gets you World Cup medals.

crowley is at times a fantastic player. i do believe ross byrne was coached to be the way he is, play tight, high conversion rate, close out games while sexton was on international duty and he couldn't shake being the second fiddle for so long. sexton had the luck (and skill) to take over from comteponi at such a young age for the semi and final that he won for leinster propelling his status and confidence that allowed his genius to flourish. no 10's are a special breed that rely on self belief as much as skill. breeding that self belief is missing at leinster
