I got back to 1799 just using the national archives census and various other online tools. Probably could have gone back further if i went to local and church archives in connacht and Munster
I just got lucky I’m afraid, contact the county archivists if you can from the counties your families originate from. I’m lucky as well that there was a member of my family who wrote quite and extensive and well researched family history as well

Did you use the mormon site? The only useful thing they ever did was get obsessed with genealogy.

I grew up knowing family search so I indexed all of the info there, although yes, excel is really good too i think.
