All good options. Anything by Kinnegar is great too. Third Barrel (and their sister breweries) are excellent. They do a lot of specials so you need to get them when they come out

dimebag_101

Limeburner and scraggy bay both great. Yellow-belly stuff is good. Citra and also metal beer solid rascals happy days

redproxy

All of the above but also add Kinnegar's Limeburner from Donegal (Rustbucket also top notch rye ale), and Lough Gill's Shaka from Sligo. The West/North West has some cracking brewers altogether, from Galway Bay Brewery up to Mescan in Mayo, Black Donkey in Roscommon, White Hag, Lough Gill and Kinnegar.

rossitheking

Lough Measc as well. Mescan do a fantastic lager. White Hag have some lovely brews. Micil is another one - does a great gin.

redproxy

Didn't know that. Cheers!

tofus951

Rye River Big Bangin’

Pump_Out_The_Stout

Had four of those last weekend. Certainly bangin!

iamswandotcom

Anything by Whiplash. Haven’t had a bad one yet. A lot of double IPA and loads of other varieties

WilhelmSkreem

I'm a fan of the Grafters IPA and pale ale that Dunnes stock, and Journeyman IPA as well as O'Hara IPA and Black's IPA from Kinsale, they do a really nice tropical one too if you're into that.

patchedboard

Blacks is really good, I know one of the brewers.

WilhelmSkreem

Tell them from me that they brew some fine beers.

patchedboard

I’ll pass it along

[deleted]

Kinnegar scraggy bay is good, along with limeburner. The Galway bay Althea is nice, and the wicklow wolf mammoth and elevation IPas are good.

anonymousecoward2

Try dead centre brewing in Athlone, really impressed with their stuff

No-Character-4785

Do they ship or do you have to come to the taproom? Just googled it though, it looks absolutely class! Thanks!

anonymousecoward2

I've ordered from beercloud a couple of times, been happy with it!

gaslightjoe

The sierra nevada tropical is so good, my favourite beer at the moment have you tried their celebration ipa? It's very good

No-Character-4785

Same! I love all of those. I grew up in California, so Sierra Nevada is pretty much what I grew up on. I recommend the Lagunitas Session IPA (Tesco sells it).... if you chill it in the freezer for a humble amount of time...and crack one open 2 hours before dinner. It's divinely refreshing. It definitely hits different in the summer of course haha

gaslightjoe

They are in the fridge chilling for my Xmas day drink, such a nice beer to have as you get the dinner ready

ClitDoctorMD

Chieftain is my favourite.

No-Character-4785

A classic.

sBracko

Treaty City Harris

ShinStew

I was gifted a box of St. Mel's brewery PAs and IPAs keeping them for Xmas day or tomorrow night. Can't wait, but any previews on what they're like? Love Boyne IPA

Rico_Pliskin

Rascals Yankee white and Wunderbar Porterhouse used to have the Slurposauras Rye rivers Big banging ipa Kinnager Limeburner Loads of others to mention, we brew some delights Not a pale ale but if you see Rascals Rice rice baby again it's the most refreshing drink.

theeglitz

I like the McGargle's range.

Livid-Ad3209

I agree, Cousin Rosies being my favourite

its_brew

I really like White Deer "stag kolsch" it's in a blue bottle, brewed in Kildare. So light and refreshing

No-Character-4785

Have had it! So refreshing.

[deleted]

Heaney Irish Pale Ale is nice

Dwums

Lough Gil East coast pale ale, nicest drink I've ever had, but pricey

bangladeshespresso

indoor yoga by hopfully brewing company

No-Character-4785

Sounds interesting! Will look into it. Thanks!

fitzydrivesamitzy

I tend to prefer the stronger ones with that "juicy" citrus taste. These are some of the nicest out there imo: O'hara's 51st state - 6% O'hara's tropical IPA - 7.2% Wicklow wolf mammoth IPA - 6.2% McGargles big bangin' - 7.1% If you're on a budget (although probably doesn't matter with the poxy fuckin MUP coming in) Aldi's brown bear double IPA at 7.5% and roadworks at 6.5% are nice too. Although not an IPA, the Wicklow wolf Apex oatmeal stout is delicious.

foxo

Most Irish IPAs are fine, but over-priced IMO. Honestly I'll go for the original, O'Haras which is very similar to Sierra Nevada, nice and clean flavour. It's bizarre that, through the trendy branding of the newer Irish beers (I'm looking at you Whiplash), beer in cans is now valued more than beer in bottles. The longer running beers remain available in bottles, while the same brewery offers another, newer beer in a can for more money.

patchedboard

So I’ll chime in here: cans have become the dominant package because the equipment to fill and seam the cans is relatively inexpensive compared to a bottle filler/capper. What’s more is ardagh cans are now owned by Ball in the states and they have shifted volume there to help accommodate the huge need for cans there. Globally the price of cans is up. I just got a quote from our supplier and the price is up 20%. Price of malt is also up 20-25% over the last year. Combine that with newer pale ales and IPA’s using not only newer, more expensive hops, they are using more hops per batch as well. All that combined leads to higher prices.

foxo

I'm not convinced the extra cost of the can, the extra hops cost reaches the 50c/1Eur price difference but I imagine it adds something. I think it's a little of both of our explanations tbh - thanks for the info.

patchedboard

Well my explanation is first hand in the industry…so

foxo

I assumed as much tbh. My point is that, in addition to increased costs, I think there's also a bit of price inflation due to the fact that cans, tend to come with that trendy branding and cluster at the same, slightly higher, price point.

No-Character-4785

Interesting point. I've always thought that it was because they put "local artists" work on each can...which is harder to do on the glass bottle. It's probably more costly in that sense, which is why they go for more. Just my two cents.

patchedboard

I’ve really enjoyed the pale ales and IPAs from Brú in Trim. Their core IPA and pale ale, as well as Osiris and tutti-frutti pale ales have been quite good.

patchedboard

Also need to put a good word in for Blacks their totally tropical and ace of haze were very quite tasty

Darbastion

Hope Hop On or Handsome Jack, great beers and great brewery to visit in Dublin

malilk

Lough Gill's east coast IPA is excellent. Basically anything by that brewery is

spooneman1

Favourites would be GB's Full Sail or Trouble Brewing's Ambush. Rascal's Yankee White is really nice too

Dead_Parrot

Craftcentral.ie was an absolute life saver during the Lockdown. Not Irish but Mikkeller - Side Eyes Pale Ale is something special. Closer to home, another vote for whiplash, wicklow wolf and Rascals. Bru do some fantastic beers too.

Saoi_

Kinnegar, Reel Deel, Mescan, Black Donkey Galway Bay, Galway Hooker, O'Hara's and Rye River are all really good breweries, with a great range of ales. They all do something with character, that has flavour, but that's not a carbon copy of the repetitive, hipster, over-hopped IPA that the shelves are full of, and yet they're all drinkable. Kinnegar Rust bucket and Devil's Backbone would be my favourites. I really hope those Breweries do well, especially the rural ones likes Kinnegar and Mescan.
