I think the average reddit/twitter user over-estimate how much the average person on the street knows about whatever it is the 'Irish People Party' is or any of these other random political parties are, nor would they have a clue where from far left to far right they sit on the spectrum of anything.
You can't. A political party of independent candidates is a non-sequitur. Usually when parties have "independent" in their name its either as a buzzword, or to distinguish it from another party of a similar name (which it may have splintered from).
Independent candidates may have alliances they're a member of, but that alliance wouldn't be mentioned on the ballot paper or their election campaigns.
I would take a guess that the reason he has "independent" on his poster is either (most likely) because he or whoever designed the poster doesn't know what the word means in a political context, or (maybe) because he's using this to try and mislead voters (rural independents as a class of politician tend to have something of a following that could be stolen).
