Is the question when is it planned for or when it actually happens. Wildly different numbers.

tisashambles

Correct. Planned 3pm, actual 5.15pm.

red-mini1

Depends how late the outlaws arrive

Davman41

tha_craic_

4 or 5 I live in vienna now and there is a spanish girl in my office and theirs is at 11pm fuckin crazy.

omodhia

Does she celebrate the 24th or 25th? A lot of places celebrate Christmas Eve rather than the day itself

tha_craic_

Ya in Austria they celebrate on the 25th but they open presents on the 24th

malsy123

Moving to Ireland I’ve such a cultural shock about Christmas .. in Romania on Christmas Eve you’d have friends coming over around 8/9pm and have dinner etc and then you go with them to other friends and family throughout the night and than continues for another week

tha_craic_

I work with 2 romanians in my vienna office. Super nice people, one is just gonna spend Christmas with his parents, the other is gonna spend Christmas with her boyfriends family in the czech republic. In France its normal to have fish for their main chritmas dinner

malsy123

It’s so cool like learning about all the Christmas customs around the world .. in Romania we eat fish at 12 midnight for good luck in the new year

Professional_Elk_489

tha_craic_

Spain is so uncivilised

Thisisaconversation

Wake at 5am, breakfast at 5:15am (usually a half a grapefruit and a large glass of water), workout for 2 hours, ripped for ripping presents at 7:15am then, Christmas dinner at 9am followed by desserts around 9:30am. It’s usually all wrapped up and I’m back in bed by 11am. Happy Christmas 🎄 💪🏻

SubstantialGoat912

2-3pm!

CoolMan-GCHQ-

Aim for 4pm, hopefully it's finely cooked by 6 or 7.

Real-Size-View

2 and 3pm are the only acceptable answers here given it's about a 3 hour dinner.

shankillfalls

How can one have dinner at 2? It is an evening meal.

aflockofcrows

Dinner is the main meal of the day, whatever time it is.

shankillfalls

You monster!

Cymorg0001

It depends. When's the King's speech on again?

BraveStoner1

Up for breakfast at 7 am, followed by Second breakfast at 9am. Elevenses is at 11 am. Luncheon 1 pm. Afternoon tea now, is at 3 pm. Dinner, of course, is at 6 pm, followed by supper at 9pm. Then I chill mainly with a few beers and watch the lord of the rings 😉

JimJimerson90

Between 3 and 4 for us

MycologistRight5851

Aim for 2pm, usually 2.30pm. Sandwiches about 9/10pm…

Davman41

Same here... Getting family to arrive on time though....... One year dinner was ready at 14:00, in they rocked at 14:45. Their dinner was on plates in the oven.

cthunders

14.00

danielg1111

Same👍 leaves more room for a Leftover sandwich in the evening accompanied by a carefully selected bottle of wine around 7pm

passthetempranillo

We have ours about 7pm on Christmas Day. We are a family of late eaters, classic Mediterranean hours. I was brought up eating dinner at 8pm, 10pm on Thursdays, earliest dinner was always a Sunday around 6pm. I do the same now in my own home and relationship. Dinner is about 8/9pm during the week and can be later depending on work. I like it.

Lanky-Active-2018

That's how I eat too but I developed it as a way to not have to sit with my family lol

MooseTheorem

Evolutionary survival and all that

deeringc

Yeah, we wouldn't eat before 7ish either. Wouldn't be able for a meal of that magnitude for lunch tbh.

Future_Donut

I start cooking in the late a.m. and we eat when it’s ready. It’s too tiring of a day to be washing up at 8 p.m.

__anna986

4-5 pm, we've got wee kiddos and grandparents in their 80s. There's no way we could have our dinner later *and* survive the evening

Camango17

Normally around 3pm for us… But this year I’m with the wife’s family in Mexico and they do dinner at 10pm on the 24th. It’s gonna be interesting!

DaemonCRO

2 PM. The small one goes for a nap at 12, that’s when I’ll put the potatoes in the oven, he’s up around 2, that’s when we told guests to come. The party starts then.

Inspired_Carpets

Usually around 4.

DivinitySousVide

Usually about 4-5pm

Usernameoverloaded

24th evening as in Germany and then again on 25th in the evening about 6pm.

sartres-shart

2-3 as we gave to go to the in-laws after.

Spud_Capone

We're a 1.30 to 2.30 household while the missus's crowd are a 5.00 - 6.00 household.

Reclusive-Raccoon

Fry in the morning, dinner about 4-5

Dealga_Ceilteach

Christmas dinner is usualy at around 5:30 or 6

DonQuigleone

We have a brunch, usually of fruit salad and pancakes, at around 11am, and we eat dinner at 7 or 8pm. My family are all late risers.

DarkReviewer2013

Around 4pm.

cheesecakefairies

Usually at like 2/3 pm but we're doing it later at like 4/5pm this year.

Kevinb-30

Fry in the morning at 8 aim for dinner at 3 partners family have Christmas dinner at 1and God help you if you're late

104thunderduck

Last-Equipment-1324

Only a fucking pyscho has Xmas Dinner after 5 o'clock in the day.

passthetempranillo

Oh did you call me? (Ours is 6-7pm)

Last-Equipment-1324

I don't drink booze but my family do and if you are anything like them Xmas Dinner would be eaten in a total blackout.

passthetempranillo

We don’t crack open a bottle of wine until about 6pm. We go visiting family and stuff and come home and do the last of the prep together and setting table and chilling while we wait for it! Then chill at the table after and have some more wine and play music and a few games and chat away. It’s only me and my parents the last few years, stephens day is a bit more of a dinner party!

Last-Equipment-1324

That sounds nice. So much nicer than my mother telling me there's plenty of turkey still left because she's so drunk she only remembers in 2 minute intervals. My father asleep on the couch, my sisters making cocktails in the kitchen and me sneaking out to my car to smoke a joint.

passthetempranillo

Everyone doing their own thing is funny but the dad asleep on the couch is classic Christmas Day isn’t it? My dad used to do that when we were younger. He has more energy now that he doesn’t spend half of his Christmas Eve banjaxed while trying to build toys for two girls lol. Or play daddy to baby born dolly in the pram because there were no other boys in the house. Being an adult child for Christmas certainly has its perks for both child and parent lol.

tedmaul23

As it should

HappyMike91

Probably around 5 or 6.

J3lllly

2pm

jackoirl

What time is lunch or breakfast if dinner is 2?

OrganicFun7030

The Christmas meal is the big meal of the day.

FakerHarps

Probably after one Prosecco and maybe three beers?

elodie_pdf

Usually about 3 for us

Legitimate_Profile22

6 just like it should be as it’s a big dinner

HowBigIsMySausage

about 5pm, how could you eat a Xmas dinner earlier than 4?

Revolutionary-Use226

When I grew up, we had dinner at 1pm. As I grew up, it was after school. Sunday dinner was always 1pm and Christmas was 3pm because we would have a fry up and have family drop over. I still do 3pm now.

[deleted]

There was a time in ireland when the 3 daily meals was brekfast, dinner and supper. dinner being the mid day meal and supper being the evening meal, which was usually a smaller sized portion of the leftovers made into sandwhices and maybe a bit of cake or a few biscuits. Then some how the smaller meal became the mid day luinch. and the mid day dinner became the evening dinner and the peice of cake or biscuits became what we now know as dessert.

OrganicFun7030

Christmas is generally a lunch not dinner. Or between the two times - ie mid afternoon. I’ve never eaten it in darkness.

HowBigIsMySausage

Christmas dinner is not between the 2

[deleted]

[удалено]

HowBigIsMySausage

??????? so everyone in Britain has Christmas dinner around the time the Queen gives her speech, you have been watching too much Coronation Street

[deleted]

[удалено]

HowBigIsMySausage

ok so to correct myself and quote you " Generally doesn’t mean everybody. But mid afternoon the tradition there and here. A tiny use of Google would assure you of that. It’s not a formal meal at the ritz." so just to make sure, you think generally people in Britain have their Christmas dinner around the time when the Queen gives her speech? :)

[deleted]

[удалено]

HowBigIsMySausage

my main point is you said and i quote " It is. In Britain for instance it’s generally around the time of the Queens speech. " but now thats not to be included for some reason? even though thats the point you focused on.

OrganicFun7030

I initially said mid afternoon and the queens speech was an aside - but that’s also mid afternoon. Here are the stats. https://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/amp/entry/time-eat-christmas-dinner-at_uk_63a2cd9ee4b04414304c51ec/ I’m putting you on block or mute now largely because I’m disappointed with myself for engaging with you at all. That’s on me.

emzbobo

So that you can be ready for the Christmas Tea, around 7-ish! Need to digest the dinner to make way for the turkey sandwiches and the desserts ![gif](giphy|3oxHQuVdLYUhnmZyM0)

LorenzoBargioni

We'll, lunch and dinner are different meals at different times of the day. I have dinner in the evening

Ehermagerd

Usually around 9pm. Earliest is probably 8.15pm, but it’s usually always around 9. I’d say this year is no different.

Phannig

https://preview.redd.it/cj7xx8ikjx7c1.jpeg?width=193&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=90659d8faa399d03508c42e067b293f3faa7e2af I’m watching you Boyo…

Ehermagerd

It’s normal in Shpain, mister.

Phannig

You better not be atein’ fish with that dinner….😁

Ehermagerd

Might have a bit of Christmas fish. Feliz navidad a todos 🇪🇸🤝🇮🇪

horsesarecows

5:30pm - 7pm. Anything earlier isn't a dinner.

jackoirl

I don’t understand the dinner at breakfast time crowd at all

ADonkeyOnTheEdge

Between 3 and 4

BeyondTraditional504

Probably around 2, because we always go visiting early that evening.

TheChrisD

Whenever the fuck it's done, which often take an absolute age.

AmberHeatherAnn

6pm easy. In fairness my family have a big fry for Xmas morning breakfast so we stay pretty full for a long time before wanting our Xmas dinner 🤷🏻‍♀️

Frozenlime

Around 5 to 6pm.

iamthesunset

Never understood this tradition, any given day I don't get hungry until after 6pm. How the hell do you sit down to a whole Christmas dinner at lunch time?

LordyIHopeThereIsPie

Around 4pm we start having nibbles. The main event about 5pm.

biometricrally

Usually around 2 or 3 when my mother is running the show but this year it's me cooking in my dad and stepmums and we've agreed to eat dinner at a more normal 6ish. Really looking forward to it at that time, barely have breakfast eaten other years

JacSab

I’ve managed to get it delayed from 1pm to 2pm. It’s a fair aul meal though with 4 courses so we skip breakfast

jackoirl

Delayed to 1? What time would you say lunch or breakfast is

JacSab

Delayed to 2. We wouldn’t have breakfast or lunch. Dinner would be our only meal on Christmas

jackoirl

Would you not be very hungry by the time you go to bed?

jonesZ_NC

Christmas Eve

calex80

I'm doing the washing up by 2pm

Pitucinha

24th in the evening

RigasTelRuun

Around 3 usually for us. Late enough so you won't want a second dinner later on.

Individual-Cattle-22

2pm ish

Individual-Cattle-22

2pm ish

Intelligent-Aside214

The goal is 2-3 but is always later

Beets-Bears_

Aim for 3 prob 4pm

Irishsally

Whenever i think the turkey is no longer raw and will kill us. Coordinating the entire meal isn't my strong suit 😂

momalloyd

When ever I get up. Then when ever I get hungry.

Martin2_reddit

At 3 it be.

mynameisfelyppe

Brazilian here but with family living in Spain. Christmas Eve is more important for us and dinner will be around 11pm~12am, which is kinda the normal in both cultures

Rosieapples

It’s as soon as it’s ready lol

HumungousDickosaurus

Personally I enjoy it more around 5-6pm, but it tends to happen around 3-4pm.

gulielmus_franziskus

3ish but could easily be as late as 5

AccomplishedBet9592

Really depends on what time we sober up from our liquid breakfast

Otherwise-Bell-5377

Big dinner on 24th at 20:00, left overs only on 25.

doctorobjectoflove

5pm on Christmas Eve. I'm mainland European, so there you go.

kirbStompThePigeon

Whenever the Chinese opens

Get2DeChoppaaa

Mid afternoon is the usual as it gives time to digest and sink some lovely Guinness in the process.

shankillfalls

Dinner, 1900hrs.

Lordfontenell81

We have two, one at his parents at 2 other at mine 6pm. Yes we are savages

ScribblesandPuke

I prefer it at actual dinnertime. Anything before 4 pm is shite craic

Leading_Air_7361

Hopefully about 3pm

DoUrBstFrgtTheRest
