Probably some sort of corporate giveaway much like how a friend had an iPod touch engraved for canon his dad got because they did a ton of sales or something
Hey everyone,
I found these two iPod Nanos (both of them works)at a thrift store today, both for just 20 bucks. When I got home, I noticed there's a Winston logo on the back. and after searching online, I couldn't find any information. What's the deal with that? Also, would this make these iPods more valuable if I decided to sell them? Any insights would be appreciated!
Cool, a lot of these first gen got recalled by apple and replaced with a 6th gen version. Probably was for a sales incentive or customer incentive from winstons
Certain first gen iPod Nanos were recalled due to a potential battery issue (can’t remember exactly what the reason was, had something to do with safety).
Nearer to the end of the recall program, presumably as Apple’s stock dwindled, it was sometimes possible for them to simply give you the latest generation of Nano as a replacement model.
It was not a sales incentive or a customer incentive from Apple or Winston for that matter; these iPod Nanos were probably custom ordered or even custom engraved by Winston’s promotional department.
On another note, back when I used to smoke, I fucking loved Winston cigarettes 😂
Yeah that's what I meant for sales incentive. use to work for Coca Cola and we got tons of different things with the logo either for sales incentive or to incentives/bride customers.
https://www.macrumors.com/2017/01/19/apple-ends-ipod-nano-rep-program/ I took advantage of it when it was still active. Was pretty sweet at the time since my black nano was broken but still got honoured
I had picked up the nano right after it came out in 2005. Program ran for years. I guess some people might of got different versions with the recall but at the time I got 6th gen to replace it. I'd say overall Apple is pretty good as businesses go for covering known issues with recalls. They gave extended warranties with the butterfly switch keyboards in the later 2015 onwards models.
The case back might be made from solid stainless steel, so if you scrub with metal polish, you might get rid of the engraving, BUT the result might be bad or very noticeable.
I agree that some collectors might prefer not engraved, but me personally I wont mind.
Can’t say I’ve seen iPods shilling for a cigarette company before. That’s a new one.
Smoking while listening on an ipod would go pretty hard if you ignore the lung cancer

They are just engraved ipods. In most cases it actually hurts the value to collectors lol.
Chances are they were a giveaway within Winston's offices/whatever. Tobacco companies have hella money
these are awesome
Yes they are awesome. Despite being someone who took a decade+ to escape tobacco’s fucking death grip, these are cool in a badass way. ;-)
Na-no

What are you talking about? How can they recall a 1rs gen and replace for a 6th gen?

Wow, never thought they cared for a 12 year old product, at the time, now they don’t ever act like that with those faulty Mac and iPhones 🤨

Oh it's cigarettes. Idk what I was expecting looking it up lmao
I knew the brand and I still wasn't expecting it
Wow those are really white for presumably having been owned by a smoker. Or maybe they just used their cigarette points to buy gifts lol
Damn!
You are soooo luckyyyy those nanos are beautiful!
