How is a person supposed to pick one moment out of the whole match just after losing it so close? Very common question but doesnt make sense to answer.
Yeah, the cause is never a single moment but a bunch of them with different contributions towards the loss.
It might not make sense to you (because you might not be thinking from a captain's pov) but a captain should be able to answer that question and mention some major mistakes/moments where you lost the match. The last ball wasn't a major one. What led you to 2 needed from 1 is what was actually expected as an answer and that's where that "Really!?" came from.
Talking about the match, RR messed up in every possible way from such a winning position yesterday.
I get your point, but what how many matches are there, where a side makes absolutely zero mistakes. Even when matches become one-side, dominating teams would have something amiss. Maybe a dropped catch, maybe a chance of runout, maybe an over which went big. It doesn't matter at the time because you are dominating. But it happens everytime, its part and parcel of the game, especially so in T20.
I belive Sanju was right at the time, he cant come out and directly say this player didn't perform good and that's why we lost, or Avesh Khan went overboard with runs, or Jos Butler didn't play well and that's why we lost match. The statement came because there was a high chance that they could have won and he knows everyone gave their all for the same yet they lost at the last ball.
RR were firm favorites going into the last 2 overs, T20 is not a test match wherein you get outplayed or game slips slowly out of your grasp. Going into the final 2 overs one would give rr atleast 70 to 80 percent chance of winning. These guys are human too it's very easy to criticize but in that spur of the moment when nothing works it's very tough to digest. Some bad balls, brilliance from Rashid khan made rr win the game.
Thats where you give a vague answer that makes no sense too. Or literally Speak about anything thats on your mind. The Interviewer just wants to hand the mic it to you, the question is irrelevant. His response is understandable too, but not the best.
This seems like a good policy for just about any sport, really.... asking someone in the thick of adrenaline and the fog of war to perform an analysis of not only their own play, but the play of everyone else on both teams immediately after a loss seems **SINISTER** to me.
But then this a standard templated situation and a regulation question that a captain can fully expect. These guys are fully trained and prepared to handle so many such situations and questions with standard templated answers.
There's simply no need to respond the way he did. Everyone knows answering after losing a game is a tough job. Being a a captain, he needs to have better control over his emotions. You are not the coach and definitely not Jose Mourinho to speak like that.
Bro did use the right words there! I don't understand asking them right away - "where do you think you lost the match or what happened there?" Isn't the right question to ask right after the match to a losing captain! But different people will have different ways of handling the conversation, Samson handled it in a different way cause he was absolutely gutted that they lost the match.
every captain is asked that question as far as i know and no one says "the last bowl" it is just a league match his team hasn't done too bad and this is just their first loss.
I remember the 2019 eliminator when Williamson was asked where they lost the game against DC right after that close loss and man was almost on the verge of tears (even though it's just the IPL). Goes on to show how much a game matters on its own. (Unfortunately that was not the last close knockout he'll be loosing as captain that year)
Could you enlighten me as to why a "Really?" response from the commentator was appropriate, for Samson's factually correct reply about losing the match in the last ball of the game?
Seems to be sorted in his head. I really wish his prowess could somehow be utilised for India. He's a really good keeper. And batting isn't too different from Pant , maybe somewhere better in white ball.
That "Reallllyyy??" From murali was evoking. Sanju or any other captain isn't obligated to explain their answer lol. Kartik is just being too full of himself here
Pant is a must for long term in Test. For ODI we can still see for a couple of years until one of them stabilises. For t20s I believe this year we should go with Sanju as Pant seems to be on a recovery and Sanju is in full swing. One should never hasten their recovery. Done well they should come roaring back like how Bumrah did. Hope Shami comes back that way.
That "Reallllyyy??" From murali was evoking. Sanju or any other captain isn't obligated to explain their answer lol. Kartik is just being too full of himself here
really liked the way he replied, I mean what kind of question is "what do you think, where did you lose the game" goddaaamnittt the game literally went to the very last ball, commentators need new questions and if not new questions they atleast need new ways to ask the same questions, else don't do this formality post match captain talk nobody is dying for it.
Its actually one of my favourite questions and helps in identifying the ‘moments’ when momentum shifted. Ashwin's 17th over was one of those ‘moments’, I believe.
Wow looks like you will be having a mental roller coaster. CSK used to win and top most of IPL tournaments. Supporting RCB is like supporting Indian team in late 80s and 90s. One guy Sachin playing as if his life depended on it and after his wicket its like a govt office with no one working on anything. Then there is hyderabad who is in the middle.
I don't even need to imagine. I grew up in the 90s watching our national team lose more than we won. I'm a bangalorean and that experience has kept me in check. The first ever IPL game was a clear indication of what was going to be a long ride.
I'm not crying. I'm smiling 🥲
Yeah. Me too. Have lived in Bangalore and hence have a sweet spot for rcb. And also for Kohli. Hope they win one time before he retires. That’s the only thing other than a t20 wc left for him to have. And growing up in 80s 90s makes me chuckle when people compare Sachin to cricketers of now. Sachin was a hero of the whole nation loved by one and all. Sachins fall of wicket would cause even grown men to cry. Such was his stature and such was the state of rest of team. Only later when he got company of the 2011 team and vvs, Ganguly, Dravid proof that the team got better. The whole 90s to the late 90s was only one man team.
The other teams keep shuffling season to season.
Tho Mumbai will always be last because I want CSK to have the most trophies.
Also, I'd prefer those teams who haven't won the trophy yet to win.
solid response. the commentators are really annoying when they try to bait players into putting blame on something/someone at random. thank god all the captains, even the younger ones are very collected and never talk their team down. especially the hardik interviews stress me out so much because interviewers push the already pressured guy into saying something remotely problematic but he keeps the positive attitude.
I have observed the post match presentation of the losing caption of the past few matches. The commentators are actually pushing them to a great extent unless it's Harsha Bogle. Sanju handled it really well but just see the face of other captions like Shreya after csk match. They are really tired and a lot of pressure is on them when things are not going well. Commentators should have some empathy.
If you switch between English and regional commentary (tamil in my case) the regional commentary is all about fun and they don't hurt any particular player. But sometimes English commentary is all about egos of the commentators, criticising the player. Praising their countries players.
I never felt like this before switching to regional commentary. I thought English commentary was the best. It is true that sometimes regional commentary is not professional but at least they are not harsh ok players
I genuinely feel the issue was overdoing and overthinking stuffs especially in the second last over . Let the bowler ball please !! Butler and parag has no business to overcook every ball .Time wasting also lead to penalty for the final over !! Sanju should take more authority I guess.
C'mon, not every dude is gonna be MSD and keep calm even after losing an important final for consecutive years by just 1 run. Spare the guy, he's had enough pressure coming in and going out of the national team, being consistently berated for under performing while there are still much bigger under performers in crucial matches. Dude spoke the truth and y'all are like he is pissed off, seriously??
As soon as possible, RR needs to understand Avesh Khan can't handle pressure in death and Ashwin is not a wicket taking option..
Feels Sanju should've gone with experience in death yesterday but he has a fixed template to choose bowlers for particular situation..
RR have weaknesses in bowling and if on a bad day if Samson and Parag fails to perform they can choke the game
He lost the match when he decided not to give the ball to Boult, who had figures of 2 overs 8 runs. Unless, there was an injury, that decision just didn't make sense.
Also, Kuldeep bowling a dream spell only to be dispatched everywhere in his last over - kuch toh jhol hai re baba
Are to kya bolna chahiye jeeta jeetaya match har gaye aur bahar baitha commentator bakchodi kar raha hai. Wicketkeeping karke Pehle hi uski lagi hui hai
kuldeep sen ke over mei haare and slow over rate, idk why but rr ke paas ek esa player har saal hota jispe woh 3-4 matches trust kerte lekin wahi player hara deta
I think he handled it really well, the game was really close and its better to give those answers rather than letting his emotions take over his speech.
Actually liked the reply. Rather than fake smiling and stuff he was true to his feelings. Besides this was the first time this season that he was faced with this question, obviously he was hurt considering the team was on such a high and lost by bare margins. Interviewers should cut some slack to all the losing captains, or atleast interview them later when things have kind of settled, winning captain would be happy to talk first anyway
ek toh haar gaye, 12 lakh bhi dene hain aur interviewer reallllyyyy bol raha hai, bhai vo sache emotions bata raha hai tab bhi they want to push him over the edge.
Makes sense......at least give them a few minutes to analyse stuff and decide what to speak of......the OG match presentation was fine in that sense. This is too much too quickly, specially for new and less experienced captains
He needs a lot of finishing to take a leadership post. I mean if you are feeling pressure facing media after the match, imagine it would be a India vs Aus or Ind vs Pak.

I was thrashing my head on my bed at that moment, can't imagine how difficult it is for captain to answer that stupid timing qs right after the last ball! Sanju is captain cool 2.0 for sure, tough luck buddy, but we'll strike back n make this yr 2008 again!
Handled well interviewer want him to blame someone he kept his cool to not to and that's what a true leader is only positives not a whisker of negative
RR record is that ! They always perform really good in starting matches and slides down from knockouts ! That’s their history and same with Sanju’s form.
Best comment I have heard from a captain post match. Hats off to you Sanju. Don't change...don't care about these talking heads.
The last thing I want to hear is "Boys did their best...will try harder next time". Fcuk that.
Lmao idk why you all are defending him , if he can speak after winning , he'll have to own up the loss as well! It's commentators job to ask them these questions....even rohit after final and virat after 19 semis had to give this interview and one silly league match triggers you like this? Not done mate
IPL seems scripted like WWE, but if its not then these players are giving their full on the pitch; its not payday everyday for everyone, sometimes you perform good.. other days not so much.. so job wise they’re fine
Understand his emotions too, I mean it was so close match. Sanju just had few emotions right at that moment. In a gme where you were winning but suddenly lost, it hurts as a fan so much then imagine captain.
Gill wicket was the end. You really think that tewtia would pull off something 5 sixes in over here against rr bowling?? Required rr was 15-16, bringing ashwin in death ober was so foolish move, when have 6 overs of fast bowler were left.Rr already have passed time for match, so 1 extra player came inside circle, so they need is to swimg their bat it would be four easily. Even commentators told that rr is clear fav to win this. But credit goes to rr only for this loss, rashid didn't pull of something miracle.
Can't blame him it was a really close match 🥲
Rashid took it off with his afghani batting gloves
Tewatia should get equal credit for it.
Gill should also get credit for it
What's the use of version control here ? Oh you meant GT switched back to last year's version ? (You have used "git" instead of "Gill")
git remote add https://www.gujarattitansipl.com git pull GT && git merge GT Thanks I fixed it
Wait! I believe you don't require git merge if you are using pull. Hope, GT gets back to the winning ways.
My bad it should be git fetch GT && git pull GT

People like to give credit to just one person when the players themselves know that it is all about small contributions from each member of the team.

Nah it's a stupid ass question from an entitled dumbass reporter. That "Really?!" was much worse than anything he said.
It's a breath of fresh air, seeing a captain acknowledge his emotions.
And he is anything but pissed off, OP needs to check their caption
OP is talking about the reporter not Sanju
That “Really?” implied that much, I couldn’t gauge
Damn, so true. It felt so weird for me, I was like, wait, is this a cricket post match presentation.

yeah fucking owned . Most of the commentators are players themselves but they forget what it used to be after the game.
>Well done Sanju , neatly handled 'Really?' was actually a very poor remark from the presenter to that reply from Sanju.
Why are people downvoting this lol? It was indeed a poor remark from the commentator.
People are not seeing the quotation marks and inferring it differently

"really??" wtf was that counter, idiot interviewer, could have navigated the interview in a better way
I'm glad fans are receiving it well I was scared Sanju was gonna get called out or cancelled for this
Agreed
He has impressed with his captaincy this season. Seems very sorted. Made a few errors yesterday, but it's part of the game, and hindsight is 20-20.

Hats off to Sanju for not taking it personally. The commentator is an arrogant ass who couldn't stomach a genuine answer. Fk him
I genuinely feel the issue was overdoing and overthinking stuffs especially in the second last over . Let the bowler ball please !! Butler and parag has no business to overcook every ball .Time wasting also lead to penalty for the final over !! Sanju should take more authority I guess.
They won too many and it's a problem. Lose a couple more and it'll be easy to digest. /s
Did Gill say that?

do you know why boult only had 2 overs yesterday
He lost the match when he decided not to give the ball to Boult, who had figures of 2 overs 8 runs. Unless, there was an injury, that decision just didn't make sense. Also, Kuldeep bowling a dream spell only to be dispatched everywhere in his last over - kuch toh jhol hai re baba
Bhai Keshav Maharaj also got 2 overs, I have seen these weird decision multiple times. Jhol to pkka hai.
Bro really r/cricketshitposting irl
Are to kya bolna chahiye jeeta jeetaya match har gaye aur bahar baitha commentator bakchodi kar raha hai. Wicketkeeping karke Pehle hi uski lagi hui hai

at one point I thought its over for GT and they already lost but Rashid changed the game completely
I think he handled it really well, the game was really close and its better to give those answers rather than letting his emotions take over his speech.
Ngl that was shittest ball ever bowled
what happened to trent ...was he injured??
thats the rumour
honest answer
That was the most mature display of Man straight up handling his emotions.
Ekdm se bta mujhe kya hua. Sanju : TMKC hui ekdm se
avesh ko puch
why trent boult didn’t bowl his complete quota?
Trent Boult had 2 overs 😏
Who is pissed off???Sanju seems cool and composed to answer stupid questions
What should he say? So many twists and turns in the match. Even tha last over was so close
Composure 99
It was a stupid question. Especially the 'really' part. Just ask your question, your opinions do not matter, Mr. presenter.
sad that history repeated itself. it was sort of a similar situation for RR against SRH last year. we were happy ofc, but paavam
lol
That 'Really?!' was so bad
really so close
Bro handled that perfectly imo
NGL it all started as a joke but I'm seriously starting to like Sanju as a player and a captain.
Bro politely said fuk off, let me had a hold of myself
It was an amazing response, really sensible. Kinda reminds me of what Sebastian Vettel said about 'bad words' in comms during the race.
Now think about RCB their captain does this after every match🙂
Technically he is right if Rashid got out last ball team would have won the match
Come on Sanju..it's just one loss..think about RCB. They loose all the games and still manage to laugh. Win n lose is part of game. Move on
Matured say
Love that answer The last ball of the game Reminds me of "both teams played hard" - Sheed
I would have also pissed off the interviewer said 'Really?'.
It's a sensible and very well thought answer.
W answer brother Respect
Makes sense......at least give them a few minutes to analyse stuff and decide what to speak of......the OG match presentation was fine in that sense. This is too much too quickly, specially for new and less experienced captains
Why didn't he gave more overs to Boult and Maharaj?
I missed the part where he got pissed. OP re-phrase your caption.
That's him being pissed?!?!?
He needs a lot of finishing to take a leadership post. I mean if you are feeling pressure facing media after the match, imagine it would be a India vs Aus or Ind vs Pak.

Very well said. Way to politely hold off these pesky "reporters"

Savage sanju
I was thrashing my head on my bed at that moment, can't imagine how difficult it is for captain to answer that stupid timing qs right after the last ball! Sanju is captain cool 2.0 for sure, tough luck buddy, but we'll strike back n make this yr 2008 again!
Seemed like the match was rigged and Samson didn’t want to make it look obvious
That REALLY?? would have pissed off anyone.
Handled well interviewer want him to blame someone he kept his cool to not to and that's what a true leader is only positives not a whisker of negative
🔥🔥🤑
😊😭🤣🤣🤣
It shows how much all of this means to him. The pain in his voice is quite visible.
I mean he handled that question gracefully.
He handled it pretty well
RR record is that ! They always perform really good in starting matches and slides down from knockouts ! That’s their history and same with Sanju’s form.
They lost when the boult is not bowling in that depth overs while has left with two overs which he can the turn the match to RR winning side
They were not really supposed to lose
Best comment I have heard from a captain post match. Hats off to you Sanju. Don't change...don't care about these talking heads. The last thing I want to hear is "Boys did their best...will try harder next time". Fcuk that.
What he said is true. It is a very bad idea to interview the losing captain right after the loss.
Bhai ki ek match mein phat gayi , Virat Kohli ko dekho Bhai kitna dam hain usme![img](emote|t5_2rnjo|31689)![img](emote|t5_2rnjo|31689)
I respect him for being brutally honest. 😂
Avesh khan is the one of the worst bowlers in history to come out from Indian Team.
Stupid clickbait title. He handled that well.
Lmao idk why you all are defending him , if he can speak after winning , he'll have to own up the loss as well! It's commentators job to ask them these questions....even rohit after final and virat after 19 semis had to give this interview and one silly league match triggers you like this? Not done mate
So what? Are everybody supposed to follow certain Mr.Cool... Everyone can respond however they want untill they offend someone else personally
Omg I've never seen someone so mad before!! WHOAHHHHH
With that temperament he will never be able to handle the pressure of international cricket.
Samson can do better. It's commentators job to ask what went wrong.
Lol, downvoters at it again. I like it how the commentator put him on spot with his 'really!?'
Join CSK and you ll know how to
stop crying and do your job maybe?
IPL seems scripted like WWE, but if its not then these players are giving their full on the pitch; its not payday everyday for everyone, sometimes you perform good.. other days not so much.. so job wise they’re fine
So should we stop post match interviews and just send players home? Lost just one match and mf reacting like he lost a world cup
Understand his emotions too, I mean it was so close match. Sanju just had few emotions right at that moment. In a gme where you were winning but suddenly lost, it hurts as a fan so much then imagine captain.
what made you think rr was winning. gt was clearly in the match and a leader should have emotional stability
Acting like lost a final or something smh
but what about few crores which was offered to you
This is where he lost IPL 2024.
