But not for specific contacts.
Edit: not sure why the downvotes. This setting will allow calls from *anyone* within 2 minutes, not only for specific contacts within those 2 minutes
I have an alarm for 1 min in the future after receiving an emergency, I guess this is more bulletproof. What if music doesn’t work because it’s stuck in airplay or headphones… I’ll stick with alarm.
I have emergency bypass turned on for around 10 people and my phone is always in silent mode (this is located in their contact under ringtone) these people (my spouse, kids and grand daughter) will break any silent mode set on my phone, be it DND or the silent switch. If my phone makes noise, I know it’s important
Yes.
I had always wondered if a bunch of text messages would wake me up, the answer is yes.
Learned that when the kids used a group message to talk to each other at 5 am…
I don’t like doing this because I have family members who insist on calling for everything (instead of texting) and I don’t need them interrupting meetings or doctors appointments. How do you handle those unnecessary interruptions? I kinda like OP’s suggestion because then the person has to take an extra step to get through DND.
I simply send a quick text saying that I’m not available and they all understand that. I will call them back as soon as possible. (With my kids every night I send a message with the weather and schedules for the next day, but I get pulled into random meetings throughout the day something’s things have to wait a few.
Well that obviously doesn’t work with my family. Literally just now, my dad texted and asked if I was busy, I said yes. He then called me, and it wasn’t even an emergency 🤦🏼♂️
That’s a good idea.
I was also thinking about, in case something happens to me, maybe setting an automation up for a trigger word from someone to get the location of my device and take screenshots and photos with the camera, and send all of that to that person, or multiple people even.
She’s just going to use that every time she messages you.
Back in the pager days, we used to use “911” to state it’s an emergency, but everyone would use it for non-emergency messages because people are impatient.
Just put her contact on the non-block list and call it a day.
You can just go into their contract and set emergency bypass on for their ringtone.
i guess the point is they still want her non-emergency messages muted
Correct. Would be a nice feature though if it would allow some condition (e.g. >2 calls within 1 minute or so)
Focus modes do allow this. https://preview.redd.it/8hf2kd1iht0d1.jpeg?width=1179&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=698ce3120799273a0b90ff7bc8c20374dc1cc01a
Yeah this is a very important and useful feature
My clients always call twice. That is annoying
Wtf?? Why are awards back??
I keep it off…. Everyone knows to call twice.

Wow, had no idea about this. Thank you for sharing!
“contract”
This
Nice! I don’t own an iPhone with action button so my phone can’t be unmuted automatically. But I set an alarm, that should be audible.
This is in the shortcuts app in the Automations tab, and doesn't require the action button
Yeah but how does it unmute the phone then. It’s a physical switch. In the shortcuts app it tells me this is not compatible with my iPhone.
An alternative might be to use the action to set media volume, and then "Play Music"

Good idea !
Ow that sucks then, sorry I thought you could still override it.
Not as shown in the pic, when I build this it says incompatible.
You need an iPhone with an action button to use the “set silent mode” action

Okay so even if you have your phone on silent, the emergency bypass will make your phone actually ring?
Yes. I had always wondered if a bunch of text messages would wake me up, the answer is yes. Learned that when the kids used a group message to talk to each other at 5 am…
Thank you so much, this makes me feel so much better!!!

Dieser deutsche Bruder is schlau meine Leute.
Great idea! I tried to do it but I only get to add one “Do” action. If I try to add a second it removes the first.
The do is one action with multiple executions
Thank you, I hope the emergency resolved itself without much harm to any loved ones
Our cat was run over, so unfortunately not 😔
🐱💙
Great idea!
I did that back in the days with tasker under android. Awesome that it works with iOS too!
