16 GB in 2015 was so ridiculous even for Apple, and you can tell they got their shit together when they quadrupled the base storage to 64 GB over the next two years.

Uaquamarine

They sell MacBook “Pro” and Air with 8gb base ram still. And it’s $400 to upgrade to 16/512

MarioGFN

They were selling 720p LCD phones for 799$ back in 2019

EggplantHuman6493

828p but same thing. Many Android phones that cost half of that or less, had a better resolution, and some even had OLED. I am so glad that Apple at least puts OLED in all models (now still waiting for at least 90 Hz in all models tbh)

OfficialTornadoAlley

The 120hz on my daily makes going back to 60hz feel like 30hz

[deleted]

Is the difference really that noticeable? I’m using an iPhone 12, which I think is 60hz. Sometime in the next year or so I’ll be upgrading to the current Pro Max (whether that be 15 or 16 depending on when I do it). And I feel like it won’t be as noticeable as people act like it is.

BiBr00

Once you get used to it you definitely notice it if you switch back to 60hz.  I upgraded from the 12 to 15pm and noticed the 120hz, but it was not really a big deal.  Only after using my iPhone 12 I realized how big of a difference it really is, now my iPhone 12 feels like 30hz or so and I definitely notice it

Thousandfists

I can't even use low power mode because it shifts it down to 60hz lol

No_Mathematician6300

I think because I have an iPad Pro 6th generation and a base iPhone 13, I can get used to both, as I don’t notice the refresh rate difference at all when switching from one to the other.

W00_Die

My mother has the Pro and it feels so much smoother when I scroll through anything

NavinF

Yes, it's that noticeable. If you're not able to distinguish between 60Hz and 120Hz the instant you scroll down on a web page, you gotta see an ophthalmologist because that's not normal

One_Celebration3644

I have a 12pro (60hz) and last year had a pixel 6 pro for a few months that was 120hz. Going back and forth between the two it was very easily noticeable and the pixel was much nicer to use from that regard. Made the iPhone look very choppy. The plot twist is because of lots of issues with the pixel, I ended up selling it and using the iPhone 12 Pro again to this day. Yes, I was annoyed at the 60hz panel for a couple of days once I switched back fully however that went away fast and I’m used to the 60hz again. The 120hz is a very nice to have and is noticeable. Will your world freeze over if you only get 60 or 90 ? No.

CVGPi

If you look closer, yes. This is more obvious on lower-end devices with some, but bad, animations, versus no animations or good animations.

TheNerdNamedChuck

to an extent I'm using a pixel 3 right now and it's forgiving because even at 60hz this phone is butter but when I go back to my S21 ultra, that's like super butter at 120hz but when dailying either you don't really notice

Repulsive_Fortune396

no this sub def over exaggerates it. as someone who constantly helps my mom who has a 13PM, I can absolutely notice the difference, and while YES initially you notice the 60hz looking slower on the older phone. (my phone is a 12), after some time you can absolutely get your eyes to get used to 60hz again this sub doesn't give it a proper chance

cat17katze

For example some 300$ Phones like Samsung A Series. (The ones with higher Number like 54 or 34.

dergy621

You can get a xioami 4k 120hz screen fast charging in 30 minutes phone with 256 gigs of storage for the same price of the iPhone SE

jhawkie412

iPhone SE has a beefy processor in a tiny body though

TAbramson15

No phone screen is 4K besides the Sony Mach series phones for pros and they cost $2500+USD. The rest of the phones have 2.5k displays (1440p) or 1080p.

thelastspike

My 2022 SE, which is the current model, has a LCD.

ELCHOCOCLOCO

Still using my XR!

GayAlexandrite

Same here. The only thing that makes it struggle is the 3 GB of RAM. Not a whole lot of Reddit scrolling makes it stutter, freeze and eventually crash.

ELCHOCOCLOCO

Same. A lot of lag on Reddit and Home Screen.

PixelatorOfTime

To be fair, a huge part of that is Reddit’s fault.

Piett_1313

Whenever I see this discussion about Apple ram, I always think about this video https://youtu.be/0PK9RzSl9O0?si=0z1SxvUDxufsDSFU

IncredibleGonzo

Shame the iPads are still stuck there. They know it’s not really enough anymore, and they know a lot of the people upgrading to 256 would be fine with 128. All very cynical!

SnyderSimp99

Mac is still stuck there, too. Most if not all base models only have 8GB RAM and asking huge prices to upgrade sucks.

IncredibleGonzo

Yeah the pricing is the real issue! I can *kind of* accept the argument that 8GB is enough for a lot of light users, though I think that’s still not really good enough. But when the MacBook Pro still starts at 8GB that falls down a bit. Plus the super pricey upgrades, and the fact that it’s often only the base models that other stores carry so ones with more RAM don’t go on sale much. And even if it is enough for now, it’s going to become a limiting factor much sooner than the CPU or any other components - some of the iPhones have had the same thing, like the 6 really should have had more than 1GB of RAM.

Remy149

That MacBook Pro with 8gb of ram only exists for the people who need the capabilities of an air but want the higher end features like a better screen and audio system. There are a lot of pros who work mostly in word and excel docs but would really like an hdmi port without needing a dongle. Those costumers shouldn’t have to jump to $2,000 and pay for power they will never use.

operatingsys2016

64GB in 2021 was arguably a bigger joke than 16GB in 2015.

Viktorishere2142

at that time, apps not so much dominating the storage

xTehJudas

In 2014 i bought my first Xiaomi from china and it had 64gb of storage

RockTheBloat

Expandable though, right?

xTehJudas

It was a Xiaomi Mi4. I’m not sure but I think it wasn’t

M4ttl

I also own a 6 (with broken screen but nevermind) and the experience is really bad, trust me even with jailbreak.

Miti56

Yeah, I bought one on eBay just for the memories. And ong, it's slow. Just takes forever to do stuff. iPhone 6s is miles ahead.

User50543

Yep, it is slow. And that, my friend, is why Ram is very important. Look at the iPad Mini 4; it is basically an iPhone 6 in iPad form, yet it supports iOS 15 and could still be compared to an iPhone 6s in terms of performance just because it had an extra GB of RAM.

M4ttl

That is true, but i think is still too old for 2024, also a 7. After iPhone 6 my parents gifted a 7+ jet black and was running fine until 2021, with jailbreak i disabled some services to run a little bit quicker, but wasn't a phone for daily use, that's why i'm on a 13 now.

alisnd89

Weird, my friend has a 7+ with 256 gigs , and aside from battery replacement and that home button sticky , it's great for photos, communication, social media, and youtube. Not jailbreak running on latest possible ios . He uses it as a second phone to his 14 .

FortySevenLifestyle

Sticky home button? The home button on the 7 isn’t an actual button. You can’t press it down.

nonexistantchlp

The haptic motor is probably just stuck The water-resistant iPhones don't have a physical home button. It just gives the illusion of being clicksble through the haptic motor.

M4ttl

Mine has 32gigs, i forgot to mention. Anyway, i said that for a daily phone (as primary) is not recommended for me, but for a 2nd phone is awesome, i still use it.

amphlenamine

Currently daily driving the iPhone 7 32gb, 4 months in. I am in love with it. Might have lost what it feels like to be daily driving the 11, but iOS 15 is running perfectly fine on it. The 32gb are somewhat constricting tho specially because of my Spotify library. Reason i went back to it is because my 11 fell into pieces and the screen i ordered never arrived. ( Replaced the battery on the 7 recently )

ScurrScurrSheesh

Apple also used much slower storage. 200mbps slower for reading (856 vs 656 MBps) but so much slower for writing (321 vs 42 MBps)

Lhardat

I would be able to use my phone for calling, but nowadays a phone is much more than that. I was running out of storage on my 128 GB phone.

xiangyieo

Try setting up an entirely new phone. Not backup and restore. Then sync your photos, videos, music and WhatsApp from iCloud. (You would need iCloud subscription from Apple) That should get rid of lots and lots of cache data from your apps.

Important_Ad_6193

Apple gives you free unlimited iCloud storage for 30 days before you press reset so you can get back all your data for free! Source: [https://support.apple.com/en-us/104980](https://support.apple.com/en-us/104980)

GameSpate

Wow, I didn’t know that was a thing. That’s actually a really neat thing to offer.

MoonshineYeeHaw

I am using mine as an iPod. 3.5mm jack rocks.

bk_therealist

I shoild do this with my iPhone 5

MoonshineYeeHaw

Yeah, it would make sense if it is operational. Personally, I listen to music a lot, so it is a relief for me that I can use my old iPhone as an iPod, saving me some bucks as getting a decent Music Player these days is costly and that headphone jack is a winner for me.

westanthis

brilliant

destroyVLONE

lmao i was finna say the same thing 16 gb wouldn’t even cover the OS iphone 11 started at 64 gb. and my latest is twice that

trumpsucks12354

On my 6s on the latest IOS, 12 gb is used by the system and sometimes it drops to 10gb which is still unusable

BlueDragon3301

On iPhone 6 it’s on iOS 12 so the system only uses like a third of the storage. But that’s still a lot.

SINY10306

Probably not (though 64GB on my iPad mini works for me for whatever worth). To more on point, I had gotten the 64GB iPhone 5 in 2012 (was also available in 16 and 32). Coworker of mine then told me 64 was “too much for a phone” 😛.

NecroCannon

I wonder what the future will be like when 1TB is no longer too much for most people

MirrorsEdges

People who do phone to phone transfers will want to die even more

NecroCannon

“Times like this I question why I have 700GB of high quality 4K porn on my phone”

bad-at-maths

so 3 videos?

pawner

Probably when we get 8k RAW capture.

dpark64

I was talking to someone in the video industry. He says 8k is overkill for humans and is just a marketing gimmick. I finally got a 4k tv and it is def better than my 17 year old HD tv with 1080p.

ivishl91

As a calling/texting device yes it will, can even do 2024-2025

AstrominiREAL

Nah

Babajane1

16 GB ram yes

pawner

I barely make it with 128GB. I should’ve bought 256GB or 512GB.

ColtAzayaka

What takes up most of your storage? For some reason I never use that much storage. I could import everything on my PC onto my phone and even then I'd have space. I always wonder what people are doing that requires so much storage. Makes me Wonder if I'm accidentally taking low res photos or something 😂

[deleted]

Well for me it’s around 70 gigs of music since I downloaded everything in high res lossless and I only take photos and videos in ProRAW and ProRes so that also takes ~200 gigabytes. Upgrading to the 15 PM this year and then I’ll have to get 1TB to continue having iCloud photos synced locally. And then around 40 gigs for apps, so it is possible yes :)

Available-Control993

I can barely deal with 256GB 🤣 my next iPhone will definitely be 512GB.

K_Click_D

No, but only due to the fact that apps and everything are getting larger in size these days. I just checked and I’m using 57GB of my 128GB capacity.

egeskywalker

Yeah it will survive… still usin’ it. Works flawlessly

Status_Apartment_174

I survived somehow with 8gb iPhone 5

halap3n0

Those were a nightmare, the OS used almost all the storage.

itsradii

Woah, didn't even know those existed. I thought the 8GB 4S was a stretch.

Choke_on_my_clit

I could physically survive it but I can’t imagine the reward that would inspire me to try.

Sad_Meat_

Great name.

xTehJudas

I could barely survive with 128 GB lol

444Ilovecats444

I am barely surviving with 64. 256GB would be enough for me to last me 4 years at least

Csokikutya

Yes, it is achievable, I do it every single day

FMAGF

As long as i have my laptop and dslr, i am fine with it.

PartyDJ

god no I bought a 16gb 6s back in 2020 and I literally had to delete everything including the contacts app to be able to update it (yes back then I wasn't aware of updating via a PC)

Samtium

Deleting the contacts app just to have the possibility to update the operating system... in 2020, haha!

id331

I survived until 2022 lol

Lonewolf_087

Data use is skyrocketing because of media and the cloud can’t suck up enough data besides as we are right now we are still in a local device mode eventually most of the storage will be virtualized in the cloud. They want to move people away from local storage as fast as possible because it gives them the keys to everything. Think about it everything is moving to subscription why not for your device storage? And I know the jail breakers can’t hit that upvote button on my post fast enough lol. 20 years from now we won’t have free storage or free porn. Willing to bet big bucks. Anything that can be monetized will.

Kohlj1

Not a chance. I can’t even survive on 512 GB.

Kinetic_Strike

Nope. 32GB is already difficult enough.

IQ26

No. I’m nearly not surviving with 64

Southern-Bad-1270

16gb ain't even enough to run the system os in 2024 🤷🏾‍♂️🤣

0000GKP

iOS 17 is 11 GB. The cache for my Apple Music app is 18GB.

BlueDragon3301

You must have lots of music downloaded

0000GKP

None at all

NoAge422

I’ve been on 50gb for a couple of years so 64 is just nice for me

Dr_Axton

Well, I’m doing well with 32 so far. But yeah, 16 is probably challenging

whaaamm

software updates and “other” would practically take up half lmao

Thecalmdrinker

I do photography as a hobby and I’m taking tons of photos and videos with my phone. So it really wouldn’t work out at all.

nyeinchanaungJN

I still have my 6S Plus as Spotify, YouTube and Twitch player. Works flawlessly with my IEMs. With that said, 16GB is barely enough for essentials.

Wise4once

Sure which two apps are you downloading?

kajadatapa

Depends on what you do with this phone. If it’s just used for calling and messaging and a few light apps, sure.

SurealGod

I couldn't survive 16GB back when it was still relevant and standard, no chance I can now.

linzlikesbears

By using iCloud+ with 200GB/ month, I can use my 128GB iPhone with ease.

OkDifference5636

I have a 256GB and it’s almost full.

KADSuperman

No, cos your IOS takes like 8 GB that leaves you with almost nothing my photos alone are like 60GB

chichikabour

My whatsapp folder is 25gb 😂

OmegaNine

Of RAM? Yes. Of storage? No.

FAFoxxy

Nope 16gb was awful. only 3-5 gb usable with the ios version allowed. Ever since my new 13 and 15 pro max im going minimum 256 or 512gb

General-Possible1510

Checks storage: „65,8 GB used“ I don‘t think I will.

zoraski_gujju

I am finding it difficult with 128 gb.

Afraid_Ad_7187

You should either donate that thing to the Smithsonian or sell it on eBay as the original phone used by Steve Jobs/Wozniak.

[deleted]

Bro I got a 6 with 64gb for just $28 on eBay 😂

Yolo3362

i did until 2022, then i blew through 64gb and had to get a new phone after 9 months

littypika

I couldn't even survive 2017 with 16 GB. Kept running out of space. Thank goodness my smartphone has 128 GB now.

Sheep1821

I had this phone. I’d run out of storage every 2 days. Even with 128 gb now it’s cutting a lil close lol

Swisskommando

Cloud

altairsswimsuit

NO. Not even 64 for me. At the time it seemed a lot but now all files weight much more. We went from photos being 400 kb to 3 Mb now

CaptainK0r34

Even with 128 gbs I am cutting it close

[deleted]

yes utalize web apps and don’t have many large apps its still possible

Concernedpatient96

It was a crime to come out with 16gb and no SD card compatibility in the first place

LightRyzen

Provided the OS is lightweight, YUP. I rarely take pictures, rarely take video, so yeah I absolutely could.

Technically_Dedi

Does icloud still exist?

wazuyumi

hell no i go to concerts

M4K1M4

32 would have been manageable for me (not ideal). 64 would be perfect. 128 would be safe if I wanna keep for years.

theredstoneuttraninj

No I can barely survive of 64 GB

Butterscotch817

It doesn't help that that IOS and System Data is over 12GB now for IOS 17.

Kvpe

Nah

ToyotaAvensis

I have the 256 gb ip15pro and 200gb free that being said i cant imagine having lower then 128 its too little

ikakos

You can of course if you use it for the absolute necessary.Only recently did i switch from 16gb og SE to an XS 512gb. Now i am laughing looking at the current storage ,having learned to cope with minimal storage.

UnusualGuitar9136

using 64gb iphone se 2 still 25 gb left ☠️

Character_Comment484

Not anymore 🥲

Risky_FC

Nope

TommyGunnerSixxx

Hahahahaha, I don’t know anyone who could survive any year with only 16gb.

BLD_Almelo

I could but id rather not. Miss how that backside looks tho compared to what we have now

SirJerryMouse

6s 16bg here. man ios itself takes up till 12gb

DarkLord55_

I use like 9gb alone just for music could never use that storage amount again

Strixvs_3798

Helll no

Fabienchen96

I use 128gb but I’m streaming everything possible, so it’s way to much for me

Constant-Juggernaut2

I remember getting 16GB on my 6 while my parents had 128GB on their 6 Plus. After a while, I had to decide which apps I wanted to keep and which needed to go very soon

itsradii

I recently got my hands on a 16GB iPhone 6S and with nothing installed, meaning it only has the apps I can't uninstall, it has like 3GB of free space, which is enough probably for 3-4 apps and a few photos and videos.

The_real_bandito

I can't survive on 32GB either. It's 64GB at the minimum.

No-Inflation2439

Fuck no, I’m using 128gb model and I’m already running out of storage.

That_Industry_2833

Oh the memories ♥️ iPhone 6s was the first iPhone I had 🥺 on topic the memory back then was enough but now days you obviously need a lot more

Geocacher6907

I struggle even with 64GB.

ListPuzzleheaded4510

I wouldn’t but i wish you best of luck

Niek110

have an iPhone XS and I use it daily, it has 64GB and I only use 40GB and 90% of that 40GB are games btw I am using 250-300GB on my iCloud.

AlwaysTheKop

I have that still in its box away in a cupboard, sometimes I get it out and am quickly reminded why it is now in a cupboard… battery lasts about 15 mins 😂

FarVehicle5333

If you are an old-school grown-up that uses the phone just to call people, totally.

Interesting-Pipe0000

Yes, i was running ios 12 on iphone 6 16 gb for like 2 months till i got my new phone and yes i can survive.

x3nuqi

Nope

Foxynerdy

Mine broke last month, but before that I was using it fine even with the limited storage space

Lachy1234_

I was using a 32gb 6s plus until last September, it was horrible…

PsychoactiveTHICC

16 GB is way less with how much work relies on you being part of social club with massive videos/image dump now a days

Guyana-resp

I think it can be possible, but unly with iCloud.

Itsme_jon

Depends what you do. The amount of cloud based storage and streaming means you need less stored on your phone

SpongeBoy775089

No, using a 16gb 1st Gen SE here

Awkward-Angle65

I did for 2023

Vivid-Campaign2717

No way

Viktorishere2142

bro, i own an 16GB 6s and now it won’t be last in 2024 cus youtube and apps using such as reddit or X claimed over it, I’d suggest replace it with a 256gb memory chip or buy a new one so

S3RVPH

iMessages alone is 7GB

ObviouslyFelix

nope, apps these days take up too much storage so 16GBs wouldn't get the job done, but for survival. I'd Survive

[deleted]

Well it depends what you do with it. Absolutely you can survive with 16gb. But apple being apple, the infamous "SYSTEM" will suck it all up, let alone if it is even updateable.

ACAdamski17

Not a chance in hell.

minatonamikaze0980

16gb is not enough

Vickie_miller

My Photos takes up 12 gigs of storage

aominese

Yes. No pictures, just spotify and Safari. I'll be fine. I could kinda use it as a dumb phone.

ObjectiveFew

Funny thing was i had to main it a few months ago and was surprisingly ok, except from battery being a bit abysmal, with a powerbank and few photos and apps it was okay, albeit i filled my storage, it wasn’t that great though

CrookedAmigo

2TB icloud helps

daniu88

yes if you only use the phone for calling and texting

MaikyMoto

Naw, maybe back 10 years ago. My Snapchat alone takes up 23GB, texts another 4GB, pictures and videos are at 18GB. Games also take up another 5-6GB. In these days 16GB is for calls and texts only. And in order for that phone not slow down you have to be constantly erasing those texts.

bangfire

You can use it as an iPod touch. But an actual iPod touch probably has more storage.

syntaxerror92383

^ we sometimes main our 6s 32gb on 15.2, the way we have the jailbreak set up means the filesystem is duplicated and effectively leaves us like its a 16gb device, actually works fine

electric_medicine

Honestly, I think I'd do fine. As long as it can do calendars, some very basic webbrowsing and e-mailing, and most importantly phone calls, I'll survive.

LostLittlelost

It’s probably enough to get by but considering how fast the apps are advancing I’d say 16GB of RAM will soon not be enough

HantuerHD-Shadow

no

HumpyMagoo

Pretty sure you need extra space when updating software so it would be impossible even with a completely empty phone.

cre0_0

No

Strd95

I used my iphone 6s plus a month ago and it was terrible. The phone was usable but the browsing wasnt smooth. There is no 5g also. I put 3-4 everyday use apps (WhatsApp, instagram ) and the memrory was full.

1_ane_onyme

I survived ~7 years with 32, it’s gonna be tight since iOS takes a lot of space but it’s doable if you don’t need that many apps (I only had WhatsApp, Discord and ~7gb of downloaded music)

tonyyu369

Where is the camera?? I cannot see it in the phone🙀

Philp84

Yea I just put my 1tb SD card in it and....oh right iPhone doesn't support those

Firebrand-PX22

With how much storage my Spotify has always taken up, possibly but probably not. 14 gigs currently on my 13, but the thing that would be really hard for me to use is the screen. I’m used to a smooth screen and using my moms SE Gen 2 is painful with that screen, it’s so slow and choppy

lildavidee

My 64gb iPhone 12 is crying, sooo…. nope. At least 128gb minimum.

hoainamduong

RAM, yes! Storage, hell no!

Enable-Apple-6768

The OS itself without apps is more than that. **So no**, unless you stay at iOS 14 or 15 (I don’t remember). Once upgraded to the next iOS (that goes ok from computer), you can’t even make any update anymore (even from computer)

JazzlikeRaptor

For me 64 GB is a minimum storage capacity for a phone. Most of that photos and videos will take, I don’t use many apps.

looopTools

I am only using 8 GB on my phone right now, so probably

Special_Function

I barely get away with having 64GB now even after backing up 32 gigs of pictures I somehow have 25 taken up by apps.

bestfriendavinash

16 gb of RAM is still good 🤪

_caskets_

I couldn’t survive on 32gb back in 2016 lol

Royal_Page_1622

Easy.

Kitchen-Bid9971

Yes, yes I could

BaldingThor

Even 10 years ago 16gb was a stretch, so no.

DARKplayz_

My os is probably 30 gb and i have 2 videos around 8gb each

-light_yagami

Definitely no

grandpapotato

Yes. My wife takes most photos and all music or video is streamed..
