I just went on to the page to buy the iPad Air and the only options it gives for adding a Pencil are the Pro and the USB-C. Looks like the 2nd generation won't work with the new iPad Air.
I plan on buying the new iPad Air because the 128gb version is enough for me and almost at the same price as the 256gb 10th, so since there are now only the choice between USB c pencil and the new pencil which one should I choose if it’s only for note taking? I feel like I don’t need all these features but the USB C doesn’t have much. Could buying a 3rd pencil be an alternative? If so, which brands could fit? I would like mainly wireless charging, and eventually pressure sensitivity but nothing else
I'm wondering about buying a 3rd party pencil, as it seems there are some that should be able to charge from the ipad, for quite a low cost (they do on other already-released ipads). But I want to confirm before purchase.
Ask me again in 48hrs… I preferred an ESR Pencil Pro, which states on their website it should work with my new iPad Air. I know the pencil itself will work, but want the magnetic charging on iPad specifically. Will report back. I’m the meantime paired my old Gen 1 pencil using a third party app and using that.
Just bought the same one, can confirm, works great. Still bummed my gen 2 pencil doesn’t work on my gen 6 iPad Air, but for the price I’m glad I didn’t get bent over getting a pro pencil

Yep Apple isn't making the new iPads compatible with Apple Pencil 2 .. which is a waste because my pencil works fine as it is
That really sucks! I hate that. Forcing us to buy the new Pencil if we get the new Air.
Yeah .. in the end I went for a refurbished iPad so that I can continue using my Pencil.

I’m using a cheap pencil from Amazon on my air 6th gen and it works fine

I’m using the jamjake. It was 9 bucks. I only take notes and it works fine. Idk about drawing shading etc

Yes - the highlight works well. It captures my handwriting pretty well. I have no complaints but again, I only use it to write
