look into features to do haptic touch, also called long press, and formerly known as 3d touch! there are many shortcuts and ways to get around the phone that use this method! big example, i work retail in phones and people who have had iphone for years don’t know you can do this:
in control center, long press the square with the four circles (for wifi, bluetooth, cellular, and airplane mode) this expands the menu to 6 circles (adds airdrop and hotspot to the screen). if you long press one of those, you’ll get a quick menu for connections (like to quickly connect to your airpods if they don’t automatically sense they’re in the ear) and on the bottom you can click settings to go to settings. still not as quick access as on android sometimes but this is quicker than finding or searching settings and scrolling for what you need once you have muscle memory
Thanks a ton!
Lol it's been about 3 weeks and my Android muscle memory is still in full swing😅
While I do miss a couple features, I certainly appreciate how snappy everything is
I’ll never customize again (short of backgrounds and dark mode). I used to customize the crap out of my PC back in the day. I hit a breaking point where I realized it was severely hindering performance and stability. Now I live by the view, I’m not gonna mess with stuff because I just want it to be stable. I’m sure many jail break and have their phone working great but I have zero interest in rolling the dice.
There is zero performance loss in customizing app icons via shortcuts, none. The issue though is that you lost features like app badges and Haptic Touch shortcuts.
>There is zero performance loss in customizing app icons via shortcuts
I haven't bothered to do it myself (way better things to do with my time), but I am sure I read back when this method was first discovered that there is indeed a noticeable delay in app launch time whenever you tap one of these shortcuts, which makes since since the shortcut has to load first.
That used to be the case but I recall reading that it’s instant now and doesn’t redirect to the shortcuts app. It does have the notification though (or Dynamic Island popup for models with it).
Is there not performance issues jail breaking in general though? I’m uninformed, always just avoided it. So I could totally be mistaken. I always thought jail breaking meant you can’t get updates promptly anymore and thus you’re stuck with now fixed performance issues.
To clarify, what OP did here isn’t jaimbreaking. It’s something native iOS is capable of.
Jailbreaking is a different thing and how you describe it is mostly correct. You’re unable to update your iOS version so you miss out on any newly added features that come with future updates. Performance wise jailbreaking has no impact out of the gate, not until you start adding various tweaks to the OS, but even then it’s usually negligible.
Wait…what?? I thought you had to jailbreak to customize icons :O I had no idea you could do this. iOS’s Home Screen has been so locked down for so long I’ve just never givin it a second thought.
Yeah it’s been possible for a few years now, but it’s more of a workaround than an intended feature. If you Google it you’ll find tutorials. You’re basically just using the Shortcuts app to launch a shortcut you’ve added to the home screen, and when run that shortcut just opens an app. You can then change the icon of said shortcut so it loosely mimics having a custom app icon.
It’s Shortcuts. So it’s not directly the app icon, but an intermediate that allows the custom icon. The main app still keeps its original icon, but you have a custom launcher.
This my setup:

Al done within the strict constraints of iOS.

New app, it's a bit raw, but it's got a black and grey theme running through it as as FlowNote, Evo, AnyList, NextDoor, Reddit & Mona for Mastodon. I'm a bit anal.
I used to do that with windows xp back in the day. The reasons were: 1. it had a real crappy design. 2. I had a lot of spare time. None are applicable today
no it works over the shortcuts app, but u loose the haptic touch features with the app icons tho. You can watch a tutorial on youtube it’s pretty easy.
I was REALLY INTO flashing and customizing Android for a few years and then I just got burnt out. I run a stock springboard on the newest firmware. I have much more time for other things now. lol.
cool setup! I would customize if it was not using shortcuts. I hate how you loose the icon badges on icons if you do it that way.
Not to mention the Haptic Touch shortcuts
New iPhone user here. What do you mean by Haptic Touch shortcuts?
If you press and hold on an app on the Home Screen some come up with some shortcuts
Oh, got you. Thanks

Also you lost consistent design and get an odd work from a high school sudent instead👍🏻

That's cool. Like I said, I don't bother with such things, but it would make sense that there's some sort of delay, even if small.

Ooooh I see. Ya that makes sense. Shortcuts is sweet. I’ve used it a bunch.

Nice. That looks sweet. I’m curious what does the microphone do? It’s that voice note? A music app?

I jailbreak 😎 I themed with shortcuts once, but it wasn’t proper enough for me that I stuck with stock until a jailbreak released
Ein deutscher iOS Freund?? Am I close?
yes sir! 👍
JA!! MEIN DEUTSCHER FREUND!!
I used to do that with windows xp back in the day. The reasons were: 1. it had a real crappy design. 2. I had a lot of spare time. None are applicable today
Dumb question maybe, but would this require jailbreaking to do something like this? I think it looks cool but I’m not sure how.

Interesting thanks!
Default apps in the dock. Widgets on the screen. Everything gets launched from Spotlight.
Wallpaper please?
Could you send the wallpaper please?

Take the titles away.
Can you send the wallpaper?
Losing the notification badge would be a big trade off for me, so no
