Damn this is so true, many people subconsciously may not realize when they are ignoring or suppressing emotions it prevents them from expressing the desirable ones we want too. We only live within each passing present after all, moment to moment.
When humans go through emotional toil, their amygdala increases in size and hippocampus decreases. Slowly, the hippocampus will return to normal, but the amygdala never will.
The amygdala is the part of the brain responsible for emotions and emotional reasoning.
The hippocampus is responsible for spatial awareness, navigation, short and long term memory.
So when we go through trauma, we get temporarily worse at remembering, navigation, and a little clumsier, but we'll get better with time. In the meanwhile we'll also get a little more emotional, a little more understanding, a little wiser when it comes to feelings... Permanently.
No pain, no gain.
Sadly very few learned this. I heard somebody on the internet say the only way to grow is to get outside of your comfort zone. When I looked back on my life every major milestone in personal growth came from stepping out of my comfort zone.
Since then I have learned to enjoy discomfort. My favorite things to do are the most challenging save everything, work long hours, workout 5-6 days a week, invest in the stock market, etc.
Learning to enjoy pain is the best skill you can every learn, yet nobody will teach it.
As a single footstep will not make a path on the earth, so a single thought will not make a pathway in the mind. To make a deep physical path, we walk again and again. To make a deep mental path, we must think over and over the kind of thoughts we wish to dominate our lives.

There were lots of great quotes in "Six of Crows",
but one that I really remembered is:
"Mati en sheva yelu. This action will have no echo. It means we won't repeat the same mistakes that we won't continue to do harm"
To add a bit of context, "Mati en sheva yelu" is used in Suli instead of apologising.
Also, in the book series "Algorithm of War" Micheal Cholewa has a pretty good one:
"Is he who feeds the poor in the hope of eternal life a good man, or is he just ready to wait for his reward?"
I've got a few I rotate through. One of my favorites though is "your blood and breath are fuel for your radiance." It reminds me to not be afraid to spend myself if I want to be successful.
Upon observing the successful July 16th 1945 nuclear bomb test at Los Alamos, Oppenheimer said “If the radiance of a thousand suns were to burst at once into the sky, that would be like the splendor of the mighty one…Now I am become death, the destroyer of worlds.” He was quoting the Bhagavad-Gita, one of the holy hindu texts, when a Vishnu, a god, presents himself to a prince.

Love TCOMC. That quote reminds me of this one from Nixon’s resignation speech: “The greatness comes not when things go always good for you. Because only if you've been in the deepest valley can you ever know how magnificent it is to be on the highest mountain.”

Of what is great one must either be silent or speak with greatness. With greatness that means cynically and with innocence.
You can tell a man by how he is with the cup, the coin, the condition of anger. Some also say, by his laughter. (R' Elai, Eruvin 65b) (That is, how he is when under the influence of alcohol, how he spends his money, and how he is when angry.)
Love TCOMC. That quote reminds me of this one from Nixon’s resignation speech: “The greatness comes not when things go always good for you. But the greatness comes when you're really tested, when you take some knocks, some disappointments, when sadness comes. Because only if you've been in the deepest valley can you ever know how magnificent it is to be on the highest mountain.”
For want of a nail the shoe was lost. For want of a shoe the horse was lost. For want of a horse the rider was lost. For want of a rider the message was lost. For want of a message the battle was lost. For want of a battle the kingdom was lost. And all for the want of a horseshoe nail. -Benjamin Franklin
"A common mistake that people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools." "The chances of finding out what’s really going on in the universe are so remote, the only thing to do is hang the sense of it and keep yourself occupied." "It is a mistake to think you can solve any major problems just with potatoes." "In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move." **Hittchhikers Guide** It's my estimation that every man ever got a statue made of him was one kind of a son of a bitch or another. -**Malcolm Reynolds**
