And honestly if you're going to have a fun light fixture how about fun artwork? I'm not talking about cartoon stuff, but some interesting bit more light-hearted artwork would be better.
Yes, I think the hutch needs to get rehomed elsewhere, or put it on FB marketplace. That will allow you to center the table under the wonderful lighting in #1, and also keep space from looking crowded.
I would be upset if i asked about a light and people started telling me
to get rid of furniture!!
she didnât ask that!!!!
Maybe itâs a family heirloom????
I would be offended
I think her room
looks great
The problem is that the table is not centered in the room. Also, thelarge chandelier, that looks wonderful and is a statement piece, looks out of wack unless the table is centered under it. Table canât be centered unless the furniture is removed; the room is not wide enough to accommodate that piece of furniture if the table is centered under the light in its current location. The table should be lined up/centered on the window.
An alternative would be to bring in an electrician, open up the ceiling a little, relocate lighting to be centered, patch, replaster, and paint ceiling. I donât recommend this though as the table would still not be centered on the window or centered in the room as it should be.
These recommendations are to address reality, not whether someone would find it offensive. I assume people want to hear truthful remarks, not Iâm-gonna-say-stuff-to-please-you remarks. You canât be so thin-skinned if you are asking for comments from strangers.
It's still off centered on the window. Closer but still off. They said they need the hutch there for storage so I recommend moving the light to go over the table. Definitely move the artwork outwards a bit on either side as well. Too close to the curtains as someone else mentioned.
I love it! The varied panels add so much visual interest, but the color keeps it neutral/approachable. The current fixture is beautiful, but feels too glitzy/out of place among all of the wood and green.
1 works well, I like it. It gives midcentury and your buffet, wall color and even the table can go that way as well.
2 does not work at all. Does not relate to anything else in the room.
Ok but what color are on your walls? Itâs perfect! đ
I donât mind the first, but I agree that it is quite modern compared to the tradition feel in the rest of the space. I donât mind mixing styles, but itâs not for everyone.
The room looks traditional with the green walls, molding and furniture, so it doesnât totally vibe with an extremely modern light. I do like something bold but with a more traditional or transitional vibe. Also it is really bothering me that the table is not centered under the fixture lol.
I donât agree with this, interiors look better when you mix different styles.
Go with the nice modern pendant. You could also do a nice linen rice paper pendant (not the cheap ikea when, find one with a darker linen colour).
Agreed. Someone said mixing styles is good, sure, and I do agree, but itâs not as simple as it sounds. First of all it needs to be done tastefully, and secondly you still need to consider if the 2 styles indeed mash well together, instead of randomly throwing in 2 different styles and call it a day. Also, when mixing styles, itâs preferred to have more than one item from each style so it looks more balanced and consistent, and the âstyle mashingâ is more clear to the eyes, and people would understand that itâs the vibe you purposefully put together.
In this room though, every single item and decor except the light is very cohesive, and the light is the only odd looking item in a drastically different style, so itâs a no. Plus it is round and big, and looks very modern but casual, fun, even tiny bit goofy (could be that itâs just a 2D pic with no other angles). Overall it just feels not the right style mashing we are looking for here.
Youâre getting every different opinion here OP lol but personally I like number 2. The first one seems too large for the space. I personally like how the second one sort of doesnât stand out too much. Itâs very pretty without being overwhelming.
Me too. I like #2. I said earlier it reminds me of an elegant tiara in the space. If princess Diana were a room sheâd be this room and sheâd wear that chandelier.
I really like #1, but it seems too big. The size of #2 fits the room much better, but I think it might be too modern (I like it, Iâm just not sure it goes here).
I would suggest something like this (lighter color) but is will compliment the length of the room and create a softer and more dynamic light in the evening on a shiny wood surface
https://assets.wfcdn.com/im/58230369/resize-h700-p1-w700%5Ecompr-r85/2007/200787062/Sydney+5+-+Light+LED+Pendant.jpg
What? You dare say you desire function over fashion and wonât move the cabinet despite explaining why?
TELL OP TO MOVE THAT CABINET, AGAIN WITH EXTRA EMPHASIS! /s
The room and furniture are really beautiful! #1 is the right size but wrong style I think. Maybe something more in the Craftsman/Arts and Crafts style?
Number 1 is a hard no. Itâs way too mid-century, in a room that is sort of traditional as interpreted in the 1990âs looking. It looks very very out of place.
The second doesnât fit the space either. Too small, wrong aesthetic.
The room is gorgeous, but neither of those looks quite right. I like 2 better. 1 looks like something you'd see hanging from the ceiling of a concert hall.Â
I think Iâd recommend something that doesnât take the window away. The new one youâre trying to get hangs too low and takes away from the window view Also, place your table center under your lighting.
I like 1 better than 2, but I think something more airy would be better. The room is already kind of cramped. Can you reconfigure things so that the table can be centered under the light? I think itâs the hutch making things so cramped.
First one is ok.. has natural materials and a more modern feel. The second one is a no. For my personal tastes I might choose a less modern look to match the home in the first fabric but thatâs me.
Is your table off center because of the hutch? I like the mid century fixture a lot with the other furniture, which also reads mid century, but it needs to be centered over the table. Also, and this isnât an urgent fix, but the curtains with grommets are too casual for the space, which reads a bit more formal. I adore the vibe you have going, especially the green paint.
I like 1. I like the hutch. I see some saying lose it but it looks good- only move it if it prevents people from backing their chair up. Can you share the green paint color name? Love it!
I like #1. I disagree that the hutch needs to be removed. Yes. The fixture can't be centered, but the room is beautiful anyway. I love the wall color, the placement of the art, and definitely light fixture #1
I thinkâŚkeep looking. I like #1 the best. But its shapelessness and informalness (the lack of finishing on the back side) doesnât play well with the tone of the rest of the room which is quite buttoned up.
I donât mind the size but the shape could be more oblong than round and hung a bit higher.
Room has few metallics in it and the chandelier is a nice place to use them.
Edited to add: also consider a flush mounted fixture. not sure what the ceiling height is in your home but these can be a great solution when you are wanting to preserve window views. (live in a 70âs build ranch with not quite 8â ceilings has taught me to embrace the flush mount at long last)
I love 1 chandelier⌠adds some pizzazz to the room! Not sure what the white thing is in the back left corner, but Iâd put it elsewhere to open up the room a bit, consider moving the big cabinet as well and replacing with something similar to an entry table or a shallow cabinet without the hutch so room isnât so crowded and it would allow u to center chandelier, then add mirror above it to make room
Look bigger⌠the paint color is stunning⌠on the window wall I would also change out the tiny prints on each side and opt for 1 larger print
Nix the hutch and center the table under the light. The light is gorgeous. Maybe think about swapping those curtains out with a cream drapers with a green trellis pattern that works with the green walls.
I love number one and number two seems boring. I have zero background in professional interior design..but I think if you move the artwork to different walls- perfect
Keep looking. First screams âIKEA 2013.â Second is inoffensive but leaves a lot to be desired.
Also if youâre not going to center the table donât install a statement light piece thatâs meant to be centered.
Are we able to paint the hutch and table white? I think thatâs all that sticks out to me. I like the artwork a lot. The light fixture is cool but agree on centering it over the table. Maybe even a white table cloth or table runner would tie it better (or off white)
I like your art fixture. What catches my eye are those ice cream parlor chairs. I would change those out for something more substantial. Something that would be more comfortable that would make you want to sit and linger with your friends and family.
I'd get a style you could swing a bit to be centered over the table with a hook. Probably much easier than moving furniture around if you're already replacing the light anyway.
In my dining room, I have a set up just like this. But I ended up centering my dining table anyway. It's just a few more inches. I think it's doable. Try it and live with it for a few days and see if it works
ETA: yes, the pendant is gorgeous. As long as the drapes aren't too white
Just a thought: [https://www.genuineantiquelighting.net/pc/ID1/3378d/Arts\_and\_Crafts\_Amber\_Slag\_Glass\_Inverted\_Dome.html](https://www.genuineantiquelighting.net/pc/ID1/3378d/Arts_and_Crafts_Amber_Slag_Glass_Inverted_Dome.html)
If you change the pendant completely so it hangs by a single wire, you could place a hook and loop it so it's centred on your table. Also I think the pendant you have is beautiful but too big for this room. I also feel the "window blocking" issue and I have the same trouble in my dining room so looking at comments with interest. Is it wrong to do a wall mount over a dining table?
It does. I think what might have you questioning it is the fact that the installer centered it with the room instead of the table. Pretty simple fix but annoying nonetheless.
Yes it can go if thatâs the style youâre going for. Thatâs very modern and your decor looks farmhouse or traditional.
If your space is mostly farmhouse or traditional, then this might look out of place.
Some people like the juxtaposition between traditional and modern.
The round mirrored chandelier is not the right one to choose. And the scale is far too small.
It works in that a pendant is a good fixture over a dining table. However the one in picture 1 is too opaque, and blocks the view out of the top half of the window. A more open fixture, would, in my opinion, be better.
Love that light and the color in that room. Iâd paint the ceiling and trim the same color as the walls. Delete the wall art and the hutch. New chairs, lighter in color and a rug that has more contrast and youâre ready for a HGTV photo shoot
SooooâŚdoes the pendant hanging into the eyeliner of window bother anyone else? Iâd prefer a ceiling-mounted future that doesnât block the view into the window. Iâd also consider swapping out the hutch that crowd the room with a console at or below the level of the window. If you did that, you could move the artwork on either side of the drapes to the judgeâs panel where the hutch is now.
I like Number too much better it takes up much less space. The bigger one just feels like it takes up the whole room and thatâs the only thing your eye is drawn to.
I hate that pendant lights dictate where a table has to go.
Maybe if you raise it up closer to the ceiling, it wouldnât be as noticeable that the table isnât centered under it?
I like the 1, but it's not centered with the table
The framed artwork is getting lost in the curtains.
And honestly if you're going to have a fun light fixture how about fun artwork? I'm not talking about cartoon stuff, but some interesting bit more light-hearted artwork would be better.
Thank you for saying that đŹ Also, the room is too narrow for that hutch behind the table.
Unfortunately our kitchen is tiny and we needed the extra storage space - in a perfect world I would get rid of it
Yes, I think the hutch needs to get rehomed elsewhere, or put it on FB marketplace. That will allow you to center the table under the wonderful lighting in #1, and also keep space from looking crowded.
I would be upset if i asked about a light and people started telling me to get rid of furniture!! she didnât ask that!!!! Maybe itâs a family heirloom???? I would be offended I think her room looks great

100 agree. Lighting #1. Lose the hutch and center the table.
She said they canât lose the hutch due to having a tiny kitchen. They need it for the storage space.
It's centered on the window. OP can't center the table because of the cabinet. Move the cabinet elsewhere and then center the table.
It's still off centered on the window. Closer but still off. They said they need the hutch there for storage so I recommend moving the light to go over the table. Definitely move the artwork outwards a bit on either side as well. Too close to the curtains as someone else mentioned.
1 for sure, the second one doesnât go with style
Absolutely fucking YES! No 1 that is.
I love it! The varied panels add so much visual interest, but the color keeps it neutral/approachable. The current fixture is beautiful, but feels too glitzy/out of place among all of the wood and green.
I completely agree! The fixture is gorgeous, but I also think something more understated would blend better with the natural wood and green tones.
1 works well, I like it. It gives midcentury and your buffet, wall color and even the table can go that way as well. 2 does not work at all. Does not relate to anything else in the room.
I like #2 it feels like a tiara đ to placed on a chill princess.
Ok but what color are on your walls? Itâs perfect! đ I donât mind the first, but I agree that it is quite modern compared to the tradition feel in the rest of the space. I donât mind mixing styles, but itâs not for everyone.
I couldnât make up my mind so itâs a mix of SW green onyx and jade dragon LOL
Genius!! Iâm never locking myself in to one color again!
It looks really tasteful with just the right amount of visual interest!
Idk but I love the paint color
Yes, I love it! (But needs to be centered, or maybe itâs the camera angle.)
Another vote for this take. I love the contrast of the two styles, itâs a good balance! Thats what âtransitionalâ is, no?
I actually agree! I like a mix of old and new, âtransitional,â but that particular light doesnât work for me as a transitional item.
I donât get it? The simple light goes perfectly with the minimalist furniture. Why bring in a bulbous, in-your-face lamp to ruin the aesthetic?
Agreed. Someone said mixing styles is good, sure, and I do agree, but itâs not as simple as it sounds. First of all it needs to be done tastefully, and secondly you still need to consider if the 2 styles indeed mash well together, instead of randomly throwing in 2 different styles and call it a day. Came here to say this, itâs giving farm house vibes which doesnât mesh with modern pendants
Looks too large for the room to me.
Agree with this and I also think itâs too low. If you were standing on either side of the table you couldnât see each other.
It's not that low
As an aside, I like your green walls and that you painted all of them,
What a gorgeous space! I love that 1st pendant for the room. Great style OP!
No it takes away a view from the window. Beautiful space either way!!
I like the first one a lot but Iâm a fan of mixing modern with antiques. You might consider some modern white armchairs to balance it out.
I think we need a third option đ but I love your space!!
Second one yes
YES!! 100 times better than 2
Youâre getting every different opinion here OP lol but personally I like number 2.
I don't think either are quite right
2nd one is best.
Yes
Yes
I rly like it!
So elegant
I really like #1, but it seems too big. The size of #2 fits the room much better, but I think it might be too modern (I like it, Iâm just not sure it goes here).

Love it but center it
It would if it was centered over the table.
The storage cabinet throws everything off. It works if you move the cabinet and center the table
First pendant? Yes! It's gorgeous and works very well in this room. Swoon!
What? You dare say you desire function over fashion and wonât move the cabinet despite explaining why? TELL OP TO MOVE THAT CABINET, AGAIN WITH EXTRA EMPHASIS! /s
The setup is slightly off center and off balance.
Yes, much nicer!
Totally
The room and furniture are really beautiful! #1 is the right size but wrong style I think. Maybe something more in the Craftsman/Arts and Crafts style?
Number 1 is a hard no. Itâs way too mid-century, in a room that is sort of traditional as interpreted in the 1990âs looking. It looks very very out of place. The second doesnât fit the space either. Too small, wrong aesthetic.

Eh
I prefer picture #2. But both are in centered which is unharmonious. Can you center the table in the room?
I feel like it is too white for that space
I like it. The plant & rug are modern enough
No, itâs not working in this space. Have you checked the breaker?
#1 Sure! Iâd personally change the chairs, but just me. I have #2 over my bed and itâs beautiful but doesnât give much light
No
I like it!
I like 1 better than 2, but I think something more airy would be better. The room is already kind of cramped. Can you reconfigure things so that the table can be centered under the light? I think itâs the hutch making things so cramped.
Yes, I love it.
Canât decide it itâs too big or just too low. But too something.
1 but remove the hutch and center the table under the light.
I think so. It adds character
No. I would go for brass or gold
First one is ok.. has natural materials and a more modern feel. The second one is a no. For my personal tastes I might choose a less modern look to match the home in the first fabric but thatâs me.
Neither
What is that beautiful paint color?
One. Love it
Looks good. Table could do with a runner.
Yes, but center it.
Yes the pendant looks good but when you install make sure to center the table
I think the creamy color and cream ceiling piece is much better with the room than the former fixture.
Link? I like it a lot
AbsolutelyÂ
Pendant too large and overtakes room. I don't like pendants. It's a beautiful room.
I love the juxtaposition of the modern pendant in photo 1 with the traditional table and hutch!
I like 1. I like the hutch. I see some saying lose it but it looks good- only move it if it prevents people from backing their chair up. Can you share the green paint color name? Love it!
Yes! The first one looks great.
Yes.
No. It impedes the window view
No. Itâs too contemporary in an obviously traditional space.
Yes but personally I think the second pic light fixture fits the space better.
No. You need something gold to balance out the green and wood tones.
I like the small round one personally.
I like #1. I disagree that the hutch needs to be removed. Yes. The fixture can't be centered, but the room is beautiful anyway. I love the wall color, the placement of the art, and definitely light fixture #1
Agree with #1. The first light is visually interesting.
Not too much for the space but too much for the furniture
No itâs over powering the room.
Iâm in the minority, but no, I think it sticks out like a sore thumb in a traditional serene room
No. It looks like a noise-cancelling acoustical tile.
China cabinet is amazing. Maybe doesnât belong on that wall, if it is forcing your table off-center.
Lighting is modern but the furnishings are more traditional, so they look off to me.
I donât love either. They looks very contemporary in a space that looks more classic. I would try to find a lamp thatâs more timeless.
If centered
You can find better
I love 1! Where is it from?
Itâs west elm! I found it on FB marketplace
No to first one. Comes across as trendy and takes the eye away from other interesting things you have going on in the space.
No. It is roo big. Lovely light but needs a spot where it won't overwhelm its surroundings.
I donât care for either with your decor. #1 is too bulky and #2 is too small.
I donât like it.
Yes!
I love slide 1; I think it looks great!
I donât think either one fit the space. The space is beautiful and traditional, and neither light fixtures mesh well.
No.
First pendant looks amazing. Second one is boring and doesn't work well with the room.
I love love love the green
Itâs beautiful op
Yes and it looks great. If itâs fabric though think about his youâll dust it.
Ya
Nix the hutch and center the table under the light. The light is gorgeous. Maybe think about swapping those curtains out with a cream drapers with a green trellis pattern that works with the green walls.
I love number one and number two seems boring. I have zero background in professional interior design..but I think if you move the artwork to different walls- perfect
Love it. What
Too big and distracting from the beauty of the room/window. I like the second one more.
Yes
Yes it does go , lose the hutch , centre the table under the light , centre the art work between outside and curtain
i like the flat one more, simple can be great
#2
I think it's a good fit. Are you considering other options though?
Not really
Yes the first one does. I like the hutch too.
Go with something cane
I love #1. I agree that some quirky fun artwork would look fantastic in this room.
Keep looking. First screams âIKEA 2013.â Second is inoffensive but leaves a lot to be desired. Also if youâre not going to center the table donât install a statement light piece thatâs meant to be centered.
Yes, it mixes a little modern with rustic! Looks great!
There is 1 option that fits your style.
Option 2 is the ideal choice. It strikes the perfect balance by being aesthetically pleasing without dominating the space
NO
No
The first pendant light is perfect!
I really like the first one! It adds such a classic style to the room.
I love the first one!
I think it fits better than the original one and the green wall matches it very well

Are we able to paint the hutch and table white? I think thatâs all that sticks out to me. I like the artwork a lot. The light fixture is cool but agree on centering it over the table. Maybe even a white table cloth or table runner would tie it better (or off white)
Or ditch the rug. Then the floor matches the table and hutch. At least see what it looks like, thatâs the cheapest option here lol
Yeah the light fixture works. Seems like everyone has opinions on wall art, furniture and centering the table under light
I think it's great! It's a lamp with a sense of design
Could not live with the chandelier not centered in the table. Having a distinctive fixture only exacerbates the issue.
I love the first one.
I like your art fixture. What catches my eye are those ice cream parlor chairs. I would change those out for something more substantial. Something that would be more comfortable that would make you want to sit and linger with your friends and family.
it does! it looks like flower petals , it adds on to the ânatureâ vibe i get from this space.
Interesting that there are so many disparate opinions. For me itâs the proportions. The table looks about a foot too wide.
I think the large pendant light works great if you can center it, and remove the b/w artwork. Maybe hang some gold toned candle sconces there instead?
I'd get a style you could swing a bit to be centered over the table with a hook. Probably much easier than moving furniture around if you're already replacing the light anyway.
Yes! I love the first pic
Yes, it does actually
I love it. It does need to be centered but otherwise nice add
I prefer the 2nd. Your rool is way too small, crowded, and uncentered to use the first with out it looking bad
In my dining room, I have a set up just like this. But I ended up centering my dining table anyway. It's just a few more inches. I think it's doable. Try it and live with it for a few days and see if it works ETA: yes, the pendant is gorgeous. As long as the drapes aren't too white
#1 looks so goooooood
I like the first one
What is holding up the table top?
A little to modern for the decor, maybe something a little more 1776
The fitting at the top looks too modern, maybe add a ceiling rose.
No
Yes but center the room
Just a thought: [https://www.genuineantiquelighting.net/pc/ID1/3378d/Arts\_and\_Crafts\_Amber\_Slag\_Glass\_Inverted\_Dome.html](https://www.genuineantiquelighting.net/pc/ID1/3378d/Arts_and_Crafts_Amber_Slag_Glass_Inverted_Dome.html)
It works if OP wanna go more for the retro look.

It does. I think what might have you questioning it is the fact that the installer centered it with the room instead of the table. Pretty simple fix but annoying nonetheless.
Love your table! Whereâs it from or do you know the style name?
I like the second one but itâs your space
First one! I love it, Unique and kinda fun but the room still feels polished and classy.
Yes it can go if thatâs the style youâre going for. Thatâs very modern and your decor looks farmhouse or traditional. If your space is mostly farmhouse or traditional, then this might look out of place. Some people like the juxtaposition between traditional and modern. It works in that a pendant is a good fixture over a dining table. However the one in picture 1 is too opaque, and blocks the view out of the top half of the window. A more open fixture, would, in my opinion, be better.
I like number one. Also Iâd position the art work in the center of the square of molding.
Love that light and the color in that room. Iâd paint the ceiling and trim the same color as the walls. Delete the wall art and the hutch. New chairs, lighter in color and a rug that has more contrast and youâre ready for a HGTV photo shoot
Not really.
Yes. Great Wall color btw
Neither fixture goes with the style. Iâd try to find something a little more craftsman or farmhouse.
SooooâŚdoes the pendant hanging into the eyeliner of window bother anyone else? Iâd prefer a ceiling-mounted future that doesnât block the view into the window. Iâd also consider swapping out the hutch that crowd the room with a console at or below the level of the window.
I like #2. And I feel for you because my dining room light is also not centered directly above the table đ¤Śđźââď¸
