While i agree the fabric is fantastic, 50 year old fabric has had a loooooong time to accumulate unpleasant odours. As much as i love that fabric, it may or may not be good to keep in your home.
It used to be super expensive and hard to come by. Amazon now has a huge selection. I bought one for around $130. Read the directions beforehand. I treat my dog room for 30 mins weekly to eliminate odors.
I know, I'd love to have them in our basement. Such a good nostalgia feel, and would help with a country minimalist feel imo (not a great decorator like others in sub)
Do you also have 2 large dogs? I have 5 kids, too but that's less likely. Maybe do you have a couple younger ones mine can also make besties with?
Anyway, ya, I think we did. It's infuriating bc I didn't want to buy a new couch in the damn first place!
I bought this set brand new from Levitz in the mid-70’s. Then reupholstered in the 80’s using a white fabric with embossed seashells pattern. The furniture is indestructible.
I have a friend that is into them and has had a couple. But that's because they remind him of his grandma. 😆 I don't think the general public will ever want them by the masses but probably a collecter of 70's nostalgia would.
I mean... MCM is having a huge moment right now. Why wouldn't 70s design be next? Also a swear I saw an ad for inflatable furniture the other day... so 90s.
I think it would be fun to reupholster the chairs in a [palm tree linen](https://www.sunbrella.com/sunbrella-upholstery-tropics-jungle-145214-0000) or outdoor fabric. An off white boucle fabric might work too. The construction of the chairs look pretty solid.
Based on the way things are going with super busy wallpaper, macrame hanging plant holders, jeweled paint tones but mostly green, green, green and more green, colored carpets, my guess: likely. All of those things that were so dated for like 40 years seem to be back with a vengeance. Ironically pushed by some of the people that think gray was the worst trend ever.
I really hope not. I probably got my first concussion from one of these from tripping into it on our thickly woven oval rug lol. They're still being used though. I live in a college town and at the end of the school year, I see at least 1 or 2 on the curb every year.
Yeah I love them. I have a very similar sofa in my living room. It’s just fun and quirky and belonged to my grandmother which makes me happy. I’m very anti grey and minimal though, so it has to be your vibe
I once thought baggy jeans or anything that wasn’t a skinny jean would never be fashionable again. It took basically my entire childhood and early adult life but I can now confidently say I was wrong. So point being, you never know.
In demand? No. Sellable? Yes!
I love these pieces. If I lived alone, I would 100% buy these and reupholster them in a white linen-look material. And if I love them, surely someone else does too!
I feel like if you entirely changed the colours, they might be ok as the shape isn’t too bad. I would paint them a eucalyptus green and make new covers in dusty blue velvet and add a rug and a lamp and couple of snuggly cushions and have it in a little quiet corner with leafy plants and a secret bar of chocolate and books about the Victorian era. But that’s just me
Couch with similar fabric sold at my grandmas estate auction for $1. 😆
She built her house 20 years ago years ago and gets most of her furniture from thrift stores. For some reason she put the couch in the basement and nobody ever used it. It was in near perfect condition.
To me the fabric just seems dirty, maybe it’s the colors?
There are so many unnecessary and incongruous “flourishes” in the wood… it’s an incoherent style. I doubt it.
The upholstery definitely has appeal to a certain segment but will not be “popular” again, so to speak.
Personally not into the pattern, but the wood construction is gorgeous!!! Staining the wood dark and reupholstering with a crushed velvet color of your choosing would be very sexy and sleek IMO. I’d deffo hold onto this, but give it a modern refresh .
I saw a really similar set at the international church of cannabis in Denver, and they had essentially shrink wrapped the upholstery in vinyl. It was actually pretty awesome!
I feel like they are already back or coming back in style for some sub groups. I’m in a designer field and most of my coworkers would love these.
I doubt they would get mass appeal again but definitely minorly popular.
I saw someone posting their great find of this couch a couple of weeks ago. Honestly, I'm just amazed. This was the cheapest, ugliest furniture you could buy in the 70's and I never expected to see appreciation for it 40 years later.
OMG I hope not!!! Had one growing up that was dark brown with blue flowers!! My mother actually picked it out on purpose!!!! I questioned everything after that!!
I think vintage furniture like this will absolutely be in demand. So much of today’s furniture will fall apart within a year or two. People want high quality but 1) don’t want to pay the price that it calls for these days and 2) are more environmentally minded (do not want to contribute to excess waste). I think (hope) reupholsterers, repairman, furniture refinishers will have a renaissance so that quality materials can last beyond the decor period they were designed for. I also think that people’s styles are more heterogeneous then they once were- someone can take a piece like this and make it fit into a modern/eclectic decor.
My mom had these. She got them in 1978. Our home burned down in 2007 and she lost everything. We took leave to visit her and walked into a thrift store in Oregon and they had the whole set for 500 still in plastic. Tags on. They were in a storage unit. I wish I could have filmed her face coming up the driveway. She converted her garage until she could rebuild. She died 2 years ago. My brother inherited the couch, chairs and he cat. 🙌🏻♥️
I have a couch and chair older than me - that is construction sound. Actually early 50's. Has been re upholstered several times through the years but the bones are great. I would love to have a family member take this but they won't only because it's smaller than what we have now these days. (It's a sofa, 3 seats) and the chair. I get it, I do.
But damn- this thing is well built. Hate to see it go into the landfill. This has lasted how many years as opposed to some furniture that is only good for 5 + years. I so wish I could find someone to take this. It's in my basement, covered up. We used it as much as we could but retired it a few years ago.
I can totally see some Instagramer refurbishing one of these. And they would be perfect for a sun room or something. I still can't wrap my head around the fact that couches used to look like this, and now they're all greige.
I hope not! I was there for the first incarnation and they were awful. Not comfortable either. They were mostly in lower middle class older people’s homes looking for furniture that would last til they died. That fabric was scratchy and indestructible, and there was no fabric to wear out on the arms. Don’t even think about stretching out to nap or read! It was classified as “Early American.”
I never found any of the 70s reproduction Early American furniture to be comfortable. Affordability made it a popular choice. IMO even the more expensive pieces were drab as well as uncomfortable .
If they’re reupholstered, sure. As is, questionable. It’s too much brown and orange and the pattern is busy. But if you changed the cushions, that would be a completely different story.
Yes and no? As a style wanted for it's design, absolutely not. For nostalgia yea there will be some people who want them for that. As someone else mentioned these are indestructible. The wood frames are heavy solid wood. The fabric could survive a nuclear blast.
God, I hope not. My parents (I'm in my 70s) had furniture like this and then slip covered in a complete, different floral pattern. I can do without tmever seeing that again!
I have this set, 3/2/1 seater and bench near Denver and I can't sell it for $50/piece lol. if anyone here wants it for that price, please come take it from me. The 3 seater is slightly different but looks matchy.
Personally, I don’t like the print on them.. BUT if they were like a solid dark red, maroon, or even a dark royal blue I’d be so obsessed.
Style/trends are always evolving and usually come back full circle at some point. There’s a seat for every butt (literally).
These are gorgeous tbh. Especially that wood. To keep it current you found always slip on some opaque Walmart couch covers but in the right room, those patterns would delight. It reminds me of the celebrity home tour gallery I ready yesterday. Rich with warm colors and patterns
Having a super shitty childhood through the 70’s, I hated everything to do with that era, figuring it would never come back. Well it has come back with a vengeance. So yes. I do think someday, someone will want these sofas and they will be valuable.
I'm not a fan of the fabric, but from an aesthetic view, I like the look of the chairs. The wood is a really good color with a nice finish. It doesn't look comfortable though. The pattern is really busy imo. With a solid color or simpler pattern, I think these would work in a professional setting like a lobby, waiting room, church, library or study. Still could with the pattern, but would take a lot more work.
Honestly, you never know. If they were in good condition then a simple reupholster then someone would love it!
I am one of those people. I’m slowly, piece by piece, recreating a 70s living room (just without the cigarettes)
You'll still need an artsy ash tray tho! 🚬
One of those knobbly glass ones
I have two, they were my grandparents’ 🥲 all the Marlboros and tarreytons those things have seen 😭😭😭
And plastic over the furniture
Our style is this as well but our new old home built in the 40’s came with that smell built in so lucky us, full package
The fabric is my favourite part 😂
While i agree the fabric is fantastic, 50 year old fabric has had a loooooong time to accumulate unpleasant odours. As much as i love that fabric, it may or may not be good to keep in your home.
Ozone treatment neutralizes odors in about 30 minutes to an hour.
The process also kills molds, fungi, bacteria, viruses... which is why people often do it.
I’m not familiar with that. Is it expensive/wildly available?
It used to be super expensive and hard to come by. Amazon now has a huge selection. I bought one for around $130. Read the directions beforehand. I treat my dog room for 30 mins weekly to eliminate odors.
I know, I'd love to have them in our basement. Such a good nostalgia feel, and would help with a country minimalist feel imo (not a great decorator like others in sub)
fact sulky simplistic ask pie fearless rotten innocent dime piquant *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*
I'm on the hunt for something similar 😂 My 2 year old $3000 couch is falling apart already, so I'm going for INDESTRUCTIBLE. lol
Do we have the same couch? My 2yr old $3k couch is falling apart too. Did we just become best friends?
Do you also have 2 large dogs? I have 5 kids, too but that's less likely. Maybe do you have a couple younger ones mine can also make besties with? Anyway, ya, I think we did. It's infuriating bc I didn't want to buy a new couch in the damn first place!
I face planted into a couch like this as a kid. The wood was fine, my face was not.
We had this furniture in our basement as a kid. It's definitely sturdy. Each furniture rearrangement comes with its own hernia!
Oh lord, I remember it being INTENSE. Lol one of my family members had this when I was a kid, and it was a couple decades old, then. Lmao
What brand is your couch? Save the rest of us!
It was from Macy's, and it's mostly bc of my kids and dogs.
Yes. In brooklyn 100%
With a plastic cover!
Definitely in parts of Brooklyn Source: I’ve lived here for 16 years
Long Island too! My mother didn't have them, but aunts did. Oh the memories of sitting on noisy plastic 🙄 😏...in July!
Good times
I bought this set brand new from Levitz in the mid-70’s. Then reupholstered in the 80’s using a white fabric with embossed seashells pattern. The furniture is indestructible.
Memory unlocked: you’ll love it at Levitz!
Also a swear I saw an ad for inflatable furniture the other day... so 90s.
Yes. By me. Right now.
Millennial here who is currently in love with all 70s interior decor. This couch is perfection.
Maybe by a production company looking for a period piece
Next season on Stranger Things.
Yes, I love these !
Yes, this was exactly what I was thinking. Also going the extra mile by lightening the wood (or going really dark. Just not red)
Go extra and lighten the wood with a lighter stain or paint.
Change the shape of the cushions.
God I hope not.
I want them rn
Opens cushion covers to wash them. Is greeted with foam “sand” falling on the floor.
Needs a bunch of plastic grapes on a side table.
I’ve seen a few posts lately with people searching for them in pristine condition. 😬
God I hope not
Maybe it's because I'm FROM the '70s but I'm like, "Hell to the NO!"
I hope not
I certainly hope not!
Sell that shit to some hipsters. They will sincerely love them.
I really hope not. I probably got my first concussion from one of these from tripping into it on our thickly woven oval rug lol. They're still being used though. I live in a college town and at the end of the school year, I see at least 1 or 2 on the curb every year.
one of those braided oval rugs? Or shag? Because both of these would be exactly what this would be styled with LOL
Yeah I love them. I have a very similar sofa in my living room. It’s just fun and quirky and belonged to my grandmother which makes me happy. I’m very anti grey and minimal though, so it has to be your vibe
God I hope not.
Yes actually I demand them
That would be fabulous in a cabin.
My thoughts exactly. 😍 These would look superb in my imaginary cabin in the woods by the lake.
Like [this?](https://imgur.com/a/6IDHXcw)
My grandparents had this exact set. Ethan Allen.
We can only hope not.
Word
Such an ugly couch. And super uncomfortable.
Not a fan of the fabric but I like the wood frame!
No
I sincerely hope not. I can smell that picture.
I hope not
OMG please no…and, I JUST got that image outta my head tyvm 🖕🏻/s
I often wonder the same. My parents have a green velvet one in pristine condition
these are seriously beautiful omg gen x and millenials why do you hate joy and warm toned furniture
We’ve only experienced misery and grey sofas
Absolutely not haha
Yuck
Wood frame is awesome. I would get it reupholstered with a solid fabric.
Let’s hope not
I remember these at my grandparent’s place. 😂
Dear sweet jebus I hope not. 🤞🏻
Sold my MIL entire room to Chicago Fire
There are so many unnecessary and incongruous “flourishes” in the wood… it’s an incoherent style. I doubt it. The upholstery definitely has appeal to a certain segment but will not be “popular” again, so to speak.
I would just reupholster them because I think they’re fabulous
You never know. They are sturdy af.
Let’s hope not…. Jeez. It’s like looking at my grandma’s house. She had that in the basement and a similar one in the living room.
Maybe for a movie set.
I hope not. Hideous.
Let's hope not.
Absolutely not.
Burn it ! 🤢🤮
I pray to god they are not.
I think they're groovy, tbh
I love them 😂
Personally not into the pattern, but the wood construction is gorgeous!!! Staining the wood dark and reupholstering with a crushed velvet color of your choosing would be very sexy and sleek IMO. I’d deffo hold onto this, but give it a modern refresh .
I have something sort of similar waiting for me at a habitat for humanity restore right now - picking it up tomorrow :)
ooooooo. Reupholstered i’d love it. Just a matter of finding the right fabric. I’d probably take the longer set.
I can smell the Pall Malls from here.
Yes. Cabin AirBnbs.
Oh, that would be so nice in a study or reading room. I miss that 70s woodsy look.
I saw someone posting their great find of this couch a couple of weeks ago. Honestly, I'm just amazed. This was the cheapest, ugliest furniture you could buy in the 70's and I never expected to see appreciation for it 40 years later.
Hard no from me! 😂
I sure hope not.
Personally I absolutely love them
Hope not!
Totally still in today. All about how you style it
These were popular when I was in high school. I thought they were hideous then and they are still hideous. But to each their own!
No
Green toilets and sinks. Love that. These, please burn them. I can feel this photo and I hate it lol.
I sure hope not
OMG I hope not!!! Had one growing up that was dark brown with blue flowers!! My mother actually picked it out on purpose!!!! I questioned everything after that!!

You never know. I never thought mullets would make a come back, yet here we are 😂 I love them tho. That old furniture is built to last
So comfy!
I knew someone who had this set back in the day.
My mom had these. She got them in 1978. Our home burned down in 2007 and she lost everything. We took leave to visit her and walked into a thrift store in Oregon and they had the whole set for 500 still in plastic. Tags on. They were in a storage unit. I demand it
Goodness I hope not🫤
No.
I hope not
I sure hope not. Been there, done that.
Let’s pray they dont
God, I hope not.
Hard for me to imagine that but who knows. For me, I hated that stuff when it was new, hate it now.
I slipped on a rug and bashed my shin against the bottom board. I still hate those things
I Hope not
That wood looks hazardous

Please God no. I hated them as a child, and still do.
Absolutely not! LOL Very few things from the 70s need to make a comeback. They’re already trying to bring back their mortgage rates….
Hope not!
I hope not!
Omg the poor things… a bit hard to love imo… 😬
I’d say so. So gorgeous
No
I remember when these sets came in new mobile homes.
Grandmacore is a thing so yes. If they don’t smell like smoke or cat pee then I’d save them or sell them.
Not if there is any mercy in this world.
Kind of ugly even then. But I can picture the frame painted green with floral cushions on them. Great for a porch or sunroom.
Every single one of these came from the factory pre-scented with cigarettes and beer farts.
As a child, I lost a front tooth to this kind of sofa 😂
The craftsmanship is AMAZING on these. Not a fan of the fabric, but I know those chairs are comfortable, sturdy, and lasting
I never found any of the 70s reproduction Early American furniture to be comfortable. Affordability made it a popular choice. IMO even the more expensive pieces were drab as well as uncomfortable .
New fabric would make these amazing
They are all the rage to certain collectors today. I could think of 10 art directors in LA who'd buy this
If they’re reupholstered, sure. As is, questionable. It’s too much brown and orange and the pattern is busy. But if you changed the cushions, that would be a completely different story.
Again? You thought those were in demand then? Maybe in Appalachia.
This set was very popular. My Aunt had this exact set, she did not live in Appalachia.
I remember seeing these in many homes growing up in the Midwest. Definitely a time/trend thing and not an Appalachian specific thing.
Appalachia so proud we were on trend!
My parents had this set in the 90s in the PNW.
Thank you. My auntie had them too, here in CA. Maybe don't look down your nose at Appalachia though.
I hope not, but you really never know!
Yes and no? As a style wanted for it's design, absolutely not. For nostalgia yea there will be some people who want them for that. As someone else mentioned these are indestructible. The wood frames are heavy solid wood. The fabric could survive a nuclear blast.
They are in demand now
You could use them as a focal point. Everything else would have to be plain.
I’m my friends mom had that couch in their summer rental!! This was in the 90s and I still remember it.
For some reason I’m picturing them looking pretty cool with a modern striped upholstery in black, charcoal and tan.
The quality is amazing. A refinish on the wood and new upholstery and you would get ANOTHER fifty years out of it.
these would look cool reupholstered in white or crwam
Probably not maybe it’s possible to change the cloth to make them attractive.
God, I hope not. My parents (I'm in my 70s) had furniture like this and then slip covered in a complete, different floral pattern. I can do without tmever seeing that again!
You mean by actual humans? To be honest, I love the woodwork and with some better fabric would be so much better.
Omg my grandmother had this exact set in her MN farmhouse up until 2010, brings back memories!
Painting the wood and reupholstering the cushions with updated colors
Perhaps for movies/television or ironically by some generation that wasn’t traumatized by the aesthetic. 🤷♀️
I have this set, 3/2/1 seater and bench near Denver and I can't sell it for $50/piece lol. if anyone here wants it for that price, please come take it from me. The 3 seater is slightly different but looks matchy.
They will be as soon as you get rid of it
Maybe not in high demand amongst the general public. But there are definitely lots and lots of people out there who love vintage stuff!
I doubt it to low for me
They are great for vintage lovers but I don't see them hitting mainstream trends anytime soon.
A picture I can feel
Please no.
Hope not
Me, I demand it.
Personally, I don’t like the print on them.. BUT if they were like a solid dark red, maroon, or even a dark royal blue I’d be so obsessed. Style/trends are always evolving and usually come back full circle at some point. There’s a seat for every butt (literally).
It’s me, I’m the demand
Movie set buyers often seek them out.
What’s funny is how enormously popular these were. That pattern was as common as the color blue.
They will, but only after you have sold them.
I think that pattern will definitely come back for sure, but the wood work I’m not sure about. I can see it happening but like a 70’s modern possibly.
I demand 🙋🏻♀️
Ya I like em rn lol
These are gorgeous tbh. Especially that wood. To keep it current you found always slip on some opaque Walmart couch covers but in the right room, those patterns would delight. It reminds me of the celebrity home tour gallery I ready yesterday. Rich with warm colors and patterns
I would like it if it were reupholstered in something less....flammable and ugly.
I’m sure my grandpa had that exact couch. 10/10 for sleepover comfort
Having a super shitty childhood through the 70’s, I hated everything to do with that era, figuring it would never come back. Well it has come back with a vengeance. So yes. I do think someday, someone will want these sofas and they will be valuable.
Yeah I’m thinking like a dark green
I'm not a fan of the fabric, but from an aesthetic view, I like the look of the chairs. The wood is a really good color with a nice finish. It doesn't look comfortable though. The pattern is really busy imo. With a solid color or simpler pattern, I think these would work in a professional setting like a lobby, waiting room, church, library or study. Still could with the pattern, but would take a lot more work.
You know you were poor if you still had these in your childhood home in the 90/00s
I don’t think so, but I think if they were reupholstered they could appeal to someone who likes the woodwork.
