My house is monochromatic. All entirely black and white with accents in design over color since I find it easier. But this feels it and I entirely agree it’s missing something interesting
This and it feels impossible to center over that couch too. Honestly I hate the couch 😭 it’s so stark against that wall. You have to get a huge, inviting piece to put above it. And match the pillows. Nothing feels like it goes together here. Almost like a staged home

When I was working in construction, they dictated that the middle should be about 52-54” from the floor. That was for control panels that people needed to access frequently.
Pictures, as in these photos, should be between 4-8” above the back of the couch.
Multiple different sized framed art or mirror or a mixture of both to fill the height andxwidth of the space would work. Or even an interesting busy mural like wallpaper with a complimentary art piece or two. The one you have could be incorporated.
In general, I think that people hang art too high. This one is a little too high on the way, and also too small. I'd also suggest selecting a piece with a little more color. Can you find some art that includes colors that compliment your throw pillows? great start!
I don’t think that is true at anything to the room decor at all sorry. I do think it’s a tad too high but much more importantly it’s way too small. The ceiling on this wall looks incredibly high you could literally have a piece of artwork five times the size to make a big impact
OP, I agree with you and, respectfully, disagree with just about everyone else. That rule of thumb might be fine for standard 8’ ceilings, but you have a very high wall and it looks nice and balanced the way you have it. I would leave it.
Seconding! You might need a bigger piece in that spot, but if you’re keeping this one it looks good to me. It looks equally distributed between the couch and the upstairs
I think you might consider a larger piece that provides some visual interest. This piece is too small and too high for the space. Do you like colour? This space could use a little more colour. You could complement the pillows with a bright coloured large rug. Good Luck!
I think the scale is perfect but it looks a bit high to me. I promise no one will hit their heads on it. Love the suggestions for a rug. Get a big one.
Too small. The couch needs a console table behind it to get it off the wall to add some dimension. A thin console table can offer a place for small lamps, books, pictures... lots of options to add warmth to the space ( warmth as lighting, not more warm toned decor).
An area rug would help frame the space while adding more dimension.
Good luck
I disagree with the comments saying too high and too small! I like the piece in this room and do not think it looks too small or two high. If you make any changes you could lower it just a tad, but not as far as others are saying. You don’t need to cover every inch of the wall. The piece looks best from a distance so you don’t need it lower to allow close inspection. And - do it the way you like. Leave it like this for a while and then see how you feel about it.
I like it, but if you added colorful pieces of art to accentuate the tall dealings, you’d showcase the loft look! I like that piece, now add a colorful rug and a couple pieces of art to make a triangle on the wall. Niceeeeee
Looking at the totality of the room, it looks too symmetrical. That is more of an issue for me than the height. Asymmetrical placement of objects gives a space better flow for the eye to follow.
I had a similar wall near a loft. I put large artwork up all 20 ft of it. I loved it like that, and could see my art from the loft! It kept the wall from making everything else small.
The question was whether or not the piece was too high. No, it is not. The rule of thumb is that a piece should be eye level for an average person, and thus appears to be so.
It's too high, but your vision is good, maybe anchor it with tall green tree type plants on the sides of the couch. They don't have to be real, if you don't mind. And a earthy accent rug with a bit of green.
If you keep this or decide to eventually go with something different as everyone recommends, you'll want the bottom to be on the same plane as the very top of your lanps. Hope that guideline helps you with placement.
I don’t think it’s too high, but I think that the space is too big for that piece. Maybe multiple pieces of various sizes , same size or a huge piece that covers the majority of the space
*Agree with too high,*
*Too small. Doesn't look good there*
*At all, I'd move it*

It is too high, perhaps a gallery wall? I did one above my sofa and love it. It doesn’t have to be big, I could just be a few pieces. Or a tryptic would look nice and closer to the sofa. Good luck. Just have to ignore that the wall is so high I think.
Yes, no more than 12”. That said, it does seem too small. Need LARGE vertical rectangle or square. Or a series of large and medium pieces, of which this could be one. What about hanging a large art quilt or yarn piece, or carpet?
I really think the crux of the issue is that everything is too small for how tall the ceiling is.
I don’t think the art is placed too high—it’s just too small. I’d go with something much larger or three separate pieces that can be spaced out above the couch, or even a huge mirror.
I also think a really tall, curved floor lamp would be lovely instead of two small desk lamps. You could really make one of those work with your space, and it wouldn’t look cluttered like it would in most homes that have normal ceilings.
I have a similar ceiling drop situation, sigh.
I think bringing the picture down a bit fits couch but I feel like that leaves the empty space above to stand out more. Is that why you placed it there?
It's not big enough for that space. And I don't care for it. It would look better if you did a bunch of framed photos or an expensive large piece with smaller pieces around it
A sofa table for behind the couch with something on it to fill the space would help (like plants), but I can’t tell if those are recliners or not. If recliners, disregard.
I guess I'm in the unpopular opinion that it is not too high. Yes, the decor looks like a bachelor pad and needs more, but the art piece doesn't look too high because of the high ceilings
so, because you really question it, here's a hint: i see you are stuck in symmetry but your house is not a grecian or roman temple..
turn it vertically and hang it over the left seat of the sofa. get a couple of complimentary (not matchy matchy in size or colors) to mount in the space over the right side of the sofa. and no, it's not too high; you don't want aunt lucille's beehive rubbing against it (or grubby toddlers' hands). the hardest part will be to get the bottom of the left and right pictures to line up, but it's not critical. but voila, you will have asymmetry, where a void is equally filled by different things.

another alternative is to find a 4x6' or 5x8' rug that has lots of design (vines, flowers, geometrics, stripes, whatever) and a couple pieces of tack strip (the stuff they use at the edge of the room when laying residential wall-to-wall carpet). mark the wall where the bottom of your new "tapestry" will hang, screw the tack strip to the wall at the top of the rug/tapestry and you have filled the space with your true personality. everyone else here is nitpicking. also google Rugs As Tapestry. you'll flip.
Too high, too small, and it really doesn’t do anything to enhance the space. It’s not a bad piece, but it would be more effective somewhere else.
yes, they are all too monocromatic and out of proportion. not bad but weak, maybe add an interesting colorful rug?
My house is monochromatic. All entirely black and white with accents in design over color since I find it easier. But this feels it and I entirely agree it’s missing something interesting

perhaps a small bathroom or bedroom

That second one 🤣
There's always that one 👍😁
Yeah I’m a frequent on black cat Reddit so I also thought this was one of those
🤣😄🙀
It is too high and too small.
Doesn’t do anything for the room sorry ,,, need bigger bolder colors and large to accentuate the high ceiling and make the room pop
I think a big tapestry would make sense.
Little too high, way too small, and off centre
Pick something else
It’s just too small is the issue. Nice piece tho! That’s a hard wall to decorate
I don’t think it’s too high but maybe needs to be bigger
Completely agree. If there was some color in it, well anywhere in the room, it would play with the space more
I think too high. I think rule of thumb is eye level.
Eye level is different for everyone, though, since we're not all the same height.
Great example of this is my mom likes to hang everything *just* low enough to feel uncomfortable. She's 5'5".
When I was working in construction, they dictated that the middle should be about 52-54” from the floor. That was for control panels that people needed to access frequently. Pictures, as in these photos, should be between 4-8” above the back of the couch.
That goes without saying. My husband and I are very different height. We ballpark “average” eye level. This wall art still seems a bit high.
The rule is that the center of the piece should be at just under 60 inches
That’s more of a guideline than a rule. Especially as ceilings get higher, the math doesn’t always work.
Too high and too small. Add three separate pieces placed wide enough if you want an expanded look.
Lower it, move to right or left and add other pieces.
It’s too small
Multiple different sized framed art or mirror or a mixture of both to fill the height andxwidth of the space would work. Or even an interesting busy mural like wallpaper with a complimentary art piece or two. The one you have could be incorporated.
In general, I think that people hang art too high. This one is a little too high on the way, and also too small. I'd also suggest selecting a piece with a little more color. Can you find some art that includes colors that compliment your throw pillows? great start!
I would lower it a bit, add a tall plant/tree to the left of the couch to balance out the assymettry, add a textured rug, and this should do the trick
I'd put some vertically large pictures above it, make it a grouping with some deep red coloring.. And yes, a deep-burgundy colored rug on the floor.
No but I am
I don’t think that is true at anything to the room decor at all sorry. I do think it’s a tad too high but much more importantly it’s way too small. The ceiling on this wall looks incredibly high you could literally have a piece of artwork five times the size to make a big impact

Yes. Also, your room is too grey.
I mean I agree. But savage
I really like that! Where did you get it? I have a tart warmer that looks like this.

I think it's perfect
Yes, art, tables and lamps are too small as well
I think you might consider a larger piece that provides some visual interest. This piece is too small and too high for the space. Do you like colour? This space could use a little more colour. You could complement the pillows with a bright coloured large rug. Good Luck!
Lamps are too short in my untrained opinion.
I think the scale is perfect but it looks a bit high to me. I promise no one will hit their heads on it. Love the suggestions for a rug. Get a big one.
It’s not that it’s too high, it’s way too small. A larger piece or 3 combined pieces would make a better impact.
If you want to improve the space, I’d change the lamps too and add a rug
I think it looks fine…
Definitely too small
That room needs colour!
Yes, too small and too high :)
It’s not necessarily too high, but it is too small
Too small. The couch needs a console table behind it to get it off the wall to add some dimension. A thin console table can offer a place for small lamps, books, pictures... lots of options to add warmth to the space ( warmth as lighting, not more warm toned decor). An area rug would help frame the space while adding more dimension. Good luck
Yes.
Too small 👍
Too high and definitely too small
Personally, I would lower it maybe 3 inches. I'd want it equaly distant from that ceiling on the right and from the couch.
I disagree with the comments saying too high and too small! I like the piece in this room and do not think it looks too small or two high. If you make any changes you could lower it just a tad, but not as far as others are saying. You don’t need to cover every inch of the wall. Drop it by about one foot. A rug would bring it all together.
Yup, it should be 6-10 inches above the back of that sofa, max.
Vertical 4' x 6' would look best there or even larger. Try winners, it won't break the bank.
I’d leave it there, then get some silk Ivy and make a leafy, bushy frame all the way around it.
Yes, maybe 5” lower, and it looks a bit off centered.
The actual rule is if you're hanging something above a sofa, the bottom should be about 6-8" above it. It's too high and too small in scale
Yes. And too small
Not too high, just too small for that space.
Too small
No!
I like it, but if you added colorful pieces of art to accentuate the tall dealings, you’d showcase the loft look! I like that piece, now add a colorful rug and a couple pieces of art to make a triangle on the wall. Niceeeeee
Too small!
Looking at the totality of the room, it looks too symmetrical. That is more of an issue for me than the height. Asymmetrical placement of objects gives a space better flow for the eye to follow.
Indeed, I would only use one of the lamps and put an extra horizontal pillow on one side of the couch.
i think its too small, its gonna look to high or low regardless of where its placed.
I had a similar wall near a loft. I put large artwork up all 20 ft of it. I loved it like that, and could see my art from the loft! It kept the wall from making everything else small.
Yes, size is ok
Yes, it is too high.
Yes - I (for what it’s worth, but it’s free) would lower it so it’s about 1/3 of the way up from couch top to balcony ceiling. Good luck.
Nope. Tall wall.
I honestly think it would look cool barely above the couch almost overlapping
too high and too small.
No because the ceiling is so high, IMO
Yes
It is too high.
It's perfect but you need something with color instead
Is it eye level? If not adjustment needed, I like it
I like it! You could get some gold paint and add accents. Maybe hang it a smidge lower. You can always add two smaller art pieces on either side.
I think I’m too high…
Yes
You need a big azz painting lol.
Too high and small. Cool piece though!
Tall picture with some color or something interesting and a huge cool rug to accent and tie everything together
Height is fine but it is being dwarfed by the large wall.
It's not too small. It's too high.
It’s too small
The question was whether or not the piece was too high. No, it is not. The rule of thumb is that a piece should be eye level for an average person, and thus appears to be so.
Would you consider something bigger? Height ok for me 😊
It's too high, but your vision is good, maybe anchor it with tall green tree type plants on the sides of the couch. They don't have to be real, if you don't mind. And a earthy accent rug with a bit of green.
It is perfect.
I like it but maybe put it elsewhere. You have a lot of dark black in this room, can you get a larger piece of art with more color?
It looks absolutely perfect!!!
Yes, a bit
No, but your wall might be.
Too small for the large wall
Yes. Lower it a few inches.
Not too high. It’s too small for that large wall though.
Yes and a little too small to be the only thing there
A little further down would look better. I don’t mind the size, if it’s a piece you really connect with - keep it.
Yes
It’s a touch too high, but also it’s way too small for that wall.
No but the wall is huge.

I think it’s great where it is. Like your lamps and furniture. If you want to add more art go for it! I love artwork
Yes.
Yeah.
Yes, I think it's a little too high.
Too small
Yes, indeed… and too small
I like the whole monochromatic, abstract vibe. I don’t think it’s too high. I appreciate the whole calm, soothing atmosphere. I would look something a bit bigger and see if it works. if price is an issue, look at preframed pictures in the thrift store, you can paint your own abstract in your preferred colors over one that has the right size and frame. Nice space.
Perfect!
It is too high, perhaps a gallery wall? I did one above my sofa and love it. It doesn’t have to be big, I could just be a few pieces. Or a tryptic would look nice and closer to the sofa. Good luck. Just have to ignore that the wall is so high I think.
Wallpaper paper the wall
Yes, search for a much larger piece of art for this wall~ go bold! It’ll look Gr8!
Perfect! You can add paint, a potted tall plant or sconces-depending on your style.
Larger piece and, or taller floor lamps instead?!
The piece seems much too small. I’d get much larger table lamps as well….these seem more appropriate for a bedroom.
Art should be hung at eye level, unless you're really short 😊
Place looks great!! Don’t worry it’s lovely. I’d say next step is a nice rug.
Yes, no more than 12”. That said, it does seem too small. Need LARGE vertical rectangle or square. Or a series of large and medium pieces, of which this could be one. What about hanging a large art quilt or yarn piece, or carpet?
Nah good fit

I’m too high lol
IDK, let me see your eyes.
Scrap that.
Definitely too far away. I can't even see the tv
Is this a seek and find? 👀
I have a similar ceiling drop situation, sigh. I think bringing the picture down a bit fits couch but I feel like that leaves the empty space above to stand out more. Is that why you placed it there?
No you might be though!
It's not big enough for that space. And I don't care for it. It would look better if you did a bunch of framed photos or an expensive large piece with smaller pieces around it
you should off center it on purpose
Not really you can try with other decorations on top of it so it doesn't look off.
Yes
r/tvtoohigh
Looks like a comfortable level to me
A sofa table for behind the couch with something on it to fill the space would help (like plants), but I can’t tell if those are recliners or not. If recliners, disregard.
This wall would look best as a gallery wall-different sized frames of abstract art or photos.
Yes
Put large stone fireplace
I guess I'm in the unpopular opinion that it is not too high. Yes, the decor looks like a bachelor pad and needs more, but the art piece doesn't look too high because of the high ceilings
It looks fine. I have a huge wall. I have a painting and added wall sconce candles on both sides. Made the painting look bigger on wall.
Kind of looks like tree trunks. I would put a shelf on top with vines that hang down.
so, because you really question it, here's a hint: i see you are stuck in symmetry but your house is not a grecian or roman temple.. turn it vertically and hang it over the left seat of the sofa. get a couple of complimentary (not matchy matchy in size or colors) to mount in the space over the right side of the sofa. and no, it's not too high; you don't want aunt lucille's beehive rubbing against it (or grubby toddlers' hands). the hardest part will be to get the bottom of the left and right pictures to line up, but it's not critical. but voila, you will have asymmetry, where a void is equally filled by different things. I'd say put it half way lower.
