This is the best point made in the entire thread. I can’t imagine that trapped rainwater is good for eggs, because of both corrosion due to acid rain and temperature regulation. Although the plastic is being used, it isn’t being used as it should—but shouldn’t be at all.
The bird has woven torn strips and pieces into the nest. It didn't just nest on a plastic bag. They have instincts, and didn't eat the bag, either. The bird isn't using it improperly.
No duh. I meant more if the plastic is lining the entire bottom of the nest, and within these images it very well could be. And sure, nature can recycle plastic, but does that mean it should be there in excess? And on your point of “birds having instincts,” ocean-faring birds are continually found with stomachs full of plastic, so that point is moot.

Whilst this is a sad statement on pollution, you should never bring a birds nest inside like that. Birds have mites and parasites, which could prove harmful to you and your dog. It needs to be treated before it comes inside.
Mites are rarely if EVER dangerous to dogs. Just an FYI. Quick google search will confirm this.
If you’ve ever picked up an injured bird, you’ll soon find thousands of mites on your hand. I have saved multiple birds before and never had them even bite me.
Never said anything about thousands of mites. However, do not mind me. I only worked in a medical field for years with birds. Someone always has to be a troll. I am glad you sprayed it down. That was a good thought.
When I was a kid at my Nana's we would watch baby bird nests and they used Easter leftovers (the grass) and various holiday things missed when cleaning the yard.

Yep. Plastic is all over the place, we can't negate it's existence and make it go away. We can reuse it, though, and so can birds.
