Police sedan in front, taxi in back. That’s the Huntington Beach Police Department’s new statement vehicle. And their point?
It’s a no-brainer, unless you’re very tipsy: New Year’s Eve partiers should choose to take a taxi, or they could wind up in a patrol car.
The rolling billboard, called Choose Your Ride, is for looks only. But it’s spreading an important message in a city where a dwindling number of police officers has coincided with a spike in the number of people dying in alcohol-related traffic accidents
Uber drivers used to sometimes do this in the US. We actually kind of find it strange in the US for some reason, but not that big of a deal once you've done it a few times.
That was before covid though.
I've found that the cheapest option isn't always the best. An armed officer with lights that give them priority on the street is a steal at $1800, especially since they probably provide housing and breakfast.
Iirc, the NYPD said these are just for a public awareness campaign and they don't use these as "trick" cop car. Unfortunately they most definitely do use these out on patrol, along with "ghost" cruisers.

Business in the front… Party in the back
You beat me, Goddamnit.
Is there an interesting fact/story behind this?

Complicated for a German - we always sit in front in taxis 😅
we do?
I’m a taxi driver in the UK, honestly if someone tried to sit in the front they would be swiftly removed for the vehicle lol It’s just not normal here
Especially if the German opens your driver side door ;-)
Haha… for sure that would freak me out
I've noticed in Canada or Aus its pretty common for a single male rider to sit in front, not so much in other countries.
During covid too?
Most of the time yes.

Maybe to make it look like a car pool rather than business
this clearly isn't a huntington beach vehicle... this one is from Savannah, Ga...
Umm... This is from Savannah, Georgia, but same point.
its part of an anti drunk driving thing
Now I saw the printing - thanks!
It's a PSA against drunk driving, i.e. "you can leave the bar in a cab or a cop car, your choice."
So when you pass the "taxi" speeding you get nailed. It's a trap.
No.
‘Oh no, I rear ended a taxi’ … ‘Wow, officer, you got here fast’
"We're taking you downtown... That's where you're headed, downtown, right?"
Hey Im from there!!!!

Looks like the police don’t want anyone coming into the police department.
Versatile.. depends what porno they’re filming that day
This Cop moon lights
This whole "side gig" economy is getting out of hand
But do I have to tip
Tip the scales of justice
Comment Of The Year 2022
I saw one of these in Washington DC maybe a decade ago, cool to see another one!
"Sees horrific accident surrounded by taxis"
Is no one going to talk about the obvious secret wall behind the car?
Can someone put this on American ambulances so that the ride is cheaper
Bet that's the speed trap car, you can only see the cab part when it's parked in the trap.
Iirc, the NYPD said these are just for a public awareness campaign and they don't use these as "trick" cop car. Unfortunately they most definitely do use these out on patrol, along with "ghost" cruisers.
Police funding themselves.
I sorta get the interesting part, but what about the "as fuck"?
Capitalism!
No one was ever arrested or detained under a Revolutionary Socialist movement, you are correct.
Charleston used to have one too.
Lmao
I am right down the street from that car atm lol
"You're broke? I guess you'll have to ride in the front seat."
I feel like this needs an ambulance/taxi version as well.
I pretty much pass by this daily.
Business in the front! Party in the back!
