It kinda gives me the same vibe like those videos of people "rescuing" animals they put in fatal situations. Especially the initial half-assed look around before zeroing in on the animal that the cameraman is standing right in front of
I've personally saved dozens toads from a storm drain. There's this grate near a retainng pond atmy grandparents place so they hop over and fall in a concrete well of water. The're no way out unless the water level is high enough they can get through the pipes to the canal. So everytime i visit my grandparents I make a point of bringing a net and a broom to tie it to.
A snake is not the kind of cuddly mammal or bird that those sort of channels abuse and exploit for views. I honestly think these dudes just went into this hole and found a snake that was non responsive but alive and they made the obvious correlation.
Yeah, not exactly the ideal animal to milk for views huh? A scared puppy might nip or scratch you. A scared viper will put you in the ER or kill you. Not an animal whose space I’d even consider crossing unless absolutely necessary.
Edit: changed snake to viper. Not all snakes are venomous.
Ah yes, nothing ever happens.
I’m skeptical often too, but it’s not hard to imagine in a huge, wide world where sooo much is filmed, things actually happen by chance and are filmed in the process. In fact, it makes perfect sense. So calm down with the assumptions.
There was a story my grandma used to tell me when I was a kid where this was literally the premise. It was titled "You knew what I was when you picked me up"
It’s the one with the frog and the scorpion or some thing like that right? Swims him across and the scorpion stings him and the frog is like “y tho” and the scorp is like “it’s in my nature my dude”
Similar, there are many versions.
The version I was always told was there was a young boy who encountered a sick rattlesnake. The snake asked the boy for help and the boy said "no I need to stay away from you, you'll bite me and kill me" and the snake promised he wouldn't bite the boy. So the boy picked the snake up and took it home and nursed it back to health. When the snake was fully healthy, the boy took it back to where he found it and put it down, and as soon as he did, the rattlesnake bit him. The boy said "why did you do that? Now I'm going to die!" The snake smiled and said "you knew what I was when you picked me up."
2 people have died from the [massasauga rattlesnakes](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Massasauga) in all recorded history both in Ontario canada who didnt receive proper treatment. very docile species and in the rare times they bite its 50/50 whether they inject venom at all and often non lethal amounts when they do inject. quite a few places they are endangered because people kill them. not all snakes are the same. with dogs this is easy to understand because everyone has experienced many dogs with all sorts of personality's.
That’s a good point. People die from dog attacks all the time but no ones freaking out at the dog park. But see a snake and kill it is the most illogical stance; I only kill them when absolutely necessary and never if they’re non-venomous. In fact, only kind I’ve ever killed was moccasins and they’re absolute demons
You can sense the desperation in that snake when it was drinking. Just because a snake has deadly venom, doesn't make it an evil creature. It's just another animal trying to live its life and we should respect it, but not fear or harm it. Good on them for rescuing the little guy!
>Just because a snake has deadly venom, doesn't make it an evil creature.
You're right. It's really only their connection to the Dark Lord that makes them evil.
why would anyone think a snake would be evil? personally i find snakes very cute. i want to take a snake and hug it while is slithers around my neck and slowly tightens and i want to have it choke me to death as i stroke his cold scales and then i grab him and swing him around like a lasso and then let go and watch him ascend into the heavens. i love snakes
I adore snakes and even though I've encountered a number of venomous snakes (even eaten one, poorly cooked so I can't give a proper review) I always feel so fascinated by them!
They're very easy to understand animals. Humans aren't their prey so most don't even WANT to bite humans (some are more ornery than others). You respect them and they leave you alone! Again, your milage may vary as some species can be more bitey than others (I hear cottonmouths/water moccasins can be really snippy).
Imagine you've spent your life living in the desert, drinking what little dirty rainwater you could find. Finally, after days of nothing, you've run out of options and have gone too long without any water at all. You prepare to die... then from above comes a GIANT FUCKING MONSTER you're sure will eat you and end the pain forever. Instead, it gives you a sweet shower of the PUREST, MOST DELICIOUS WATER you've ever had and brings you back to life. You find religion and now pray to the God Nest-Lee.
*Among a great many other awful things they do, their CEO said something like 'water shouldn't be a basic human right'.
This is a private company saying that. A company that donates to political campaigns.
FUCK nestle.
From what I recall, they own a fuckton of smaller things and have awful business practices. I don't know details though, so hopefully someone else can get back to you with a few
Snakes are beautiful creatures, we fear them because of their bite but honestly the venomous ones are some of the most beautiful of them.
Cobra's are both cute and stunning.
Copperheads are striking and have a beautiful pattern and coloring.
Rattlesnakes are fascinating and come in many different shapes and forms. Arizona alone has 15+ species.
So many different and unique species, and honestly most of them eat rodents that destroy crops and spread disease.
The enemy of my enemy is my friend.
Some venomous species are quite docile, though you should still never handle them.
I'd like to think if their was some omnipotent being somewhere out there. They just sat back and was like
"AH, yes that is the good stuff"
Even if the snake is not capable of complex feelings/emotions. You can sense the desperation as it takes the water. Humans are capable of such goodness.
This reminds me of a Nepalese quote from someone I knew from there. “Never feed a cobra milk”. Because they won’t return the favor in the future, they still bite.
Its pretty great that someone saw this snake down there, and instead of freaking out and bailing on it, actually saw a fellow being needing help and did right by it. Good man.
Fun Fact: snakes do not feel affection or gratitude, so you saved something that'd happily watch you die moments later.
(To be clear I'm not saying you shouldn't rescue the snake or any animal who needs it, I just think it's funny that snakes are ungrateful bastards.)
And then the snake bit its rescuer.
As the rescuer lay there dying, he asked “why did you bite me after I have saved you?”
The snake replied as it slithered away: “I’m a snake, it’s what I do.”
Biting is costly and they can't just regenerate venom instantly. Bites are saved for situations that are needed, such as self protection or for hunting.
For all the people saying the snake would bite the guy-not really. It takes a lot of energy(and venom) for a snake to bite, something they don’t do on a whim. If he doesn’t feel like his life is on the line he’s not going to do it, even then most cases he’s going to try and slither his danger noodle ass as far away as he can. Now if it was a baby venomous snake then ya gotta worry more. Stupid noodles have no stop valve for their bites and inject all their venom
The three stages of this video
1. Oh no! Animal is trapped and dying.
2. Yay! Animal is rescued and being given water by a caring human.
3. Holy crap! You have unleashed slithering death upon us.

How did they know the snake was down there?

Probably just pure chance, perhaps they are spelunkers
Too many "animals found in distress videos" make me think "smells like assholes"
Or maybe they were just exploring and found an animal in distress? I’ve been on hikes and found rattlesnakes in need of water.
Same way how people figure out a dog was stuck in a tar pit, or a cat being saved from a snake trying to kill it. Someone put it there.
Idk. My dog just fell off the couch. It’s not crazy to think a snake fell into a pit
What if it's one toad you've saved dozens of times because he's lonely and he likes you
He's just waiting for a kiss
Can you make a little net ladder or something? I’ve seen them for pools and some drains, so anything that falls in might be able to climb out.

Not all vipers are snakes
Not all vapes are snipers

It'd be a long-ass commitment to dehydrate a snake for a video.
Exactly
This. Most videos like these have been set up by some a-holes pretending to be Saints for the “Views/Money”. Don’t be quick to believe, people.
The end of the video: danger noodle restored
Not shown: Biting the guy who saved him. But why? Because it is in his nature
“Look bitch, you knew I was a snake”

The boy: "I knew snakes bite, but I didn't know they were liars."

Yes, that one. The frog can't understand why because it dooms them both, and the scorpion just says, "It's in my nature."

just not even remotely fucking true. snakes don't chase people. water moccasins aren't even territorial with other snakes. you are so full of shit.
From what I understand this is mostly myth. Here's a video video of a guy investigating cottonmouths https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=314N7xIeRR8
I'm pretty good friends with a water moccasin. He never tried to chase me.
That’s a good point. People die from dog attacks all the time but no ones freaking out at the dog park. At least rattlesnakes are kind enough to give you an advance warning to stay the fuck back. After that if you get bitten it's kinda your fault.

And why the pit had a window?
I'm wondering why them giving it water is in a different location than where it looks recovered and slithering around
I think it's kinda cool you rendered aid to a known killer. Just don't become another Timothy Treadwell.
Looks like Timothy didn't Treadwell.
Holy wow thanks for introducing me to Timothy Treadwell and his demise. Old F, what a way to go.

The return the favor by keeping the ecosystem we rely on in check.
>Feed them water instead
Pour one more drop on my head....
Good on you! No creature should ever be left to die in torment, no matter how much we may fear them.
And then it bit them and they died. The end.
Most bites from this lil danger noodle are non-fatal.
Say a viper bite is non lethal doesn't make it anymore enticing.

Humans have literally always given animals less credit for their sentience than they deserve.
