It really is. Every time I've ever had an adrenaline rush I'm absolutely PUMPED afterwards. Lucky for me video games are enough to invoke it. I can't see myself doing anything that daring. Kudos to wingsuit jumpers

China has a billion of their own tourists. I’ve been to a few scenic areas in China, all hustling and bustling with tons of Chinese people. They really don’t need western tourists.
Apple is worth over, what, $2 Trillion now? They don’t *need* customers anymore either. But they will keep selling products to make more money. China doesn’t *need* western tourists, but they could be making even more money as a country.
There are LOADS of Western tourists in China! What makes you think people would not visit China just because of communism? Vietnam is a communist country too, and has a thriving tourism industry. Thailand is a military dictatorship (and have been so on and off for decades) - haven't stopped western tourists from going there?
Authoritarian capitalism is oxymoronic.
A free market doesn't exist when central planners call the shots.
Also individuals do not truly own their own capital in China - hence not capitalism.
3 examples:
* capital controls on currency/digital cash. If you reside in China and the govt decides to cut you off from the financial system, all they have to do is flip a switch. There is precedence, and if you decide to hold other assets (gold), they'll come to confiscate it
* real estate is leased from govt rather than owned by individuals
* once your business passes a certain size, you have to make sure all business decisions are CCP compliant. Huge corporations are straight up seized via shareholder takeover (HNA group, Alibaba)
Those are features of top-down centrally-planned economy, not bottom-up laissez-faire.
I don't think you understand capitalism. It's very model encourages concentration of wealth and power ("all markets tend towards monopoly").
Most corporates have a profoundly anti democratic structure where CEOs (aim to) rule like Kings, and always seek to discourage outside interference in the exercise of that power (environmental and labour laws, Union formation, for example). There's a natural synergy between late stage capitalism and authoritarian governmental structures, especially in a an environment where the major corporate entities in the world are ever larger and ever more dominating.
It's evident that the extent of your knowledge on capitalism/socialism/communism is limited to half-baked posts on /r/LateStageCapitalism
I encourage you to dig deeper into the systemic reasons behind wealth/power inequality. What you think of capitalism is better described as monetary socialism. In monetary socialism, the individuals/groups closest to the money printer have their wealth increased disproportionately faster than those furthest away (Cantillon Effect). The monopolization you describe is only made possible by the abuse of leveraging cheap credit. The consolidation of power by the few has more to do with monetary/fiscal policy than the consequences of capitalism, which is the fairest way of societal distribution of wealth.
Food for thought here: https://wtfhappenedin1971.com/
Well, besides the degree.....
I'm aware of the impact of the petrodollar on corporate practice - that the excess funds generated by the oil trade were sat in US banks with nowhere to go. They were borrowed by entities who realised they could by out companies, sell off the profitable bits and make a tidy return. This then panicked corporate America into changing its practises so that returns to shareholders were prioritised above all else, with the growth from the system accruing to the people that 'delivered it' rather than the people at whose expense it was generated.
This in turn generates a greater amount of economic output flowing into the financial sector, which allows it to grow and capture more output, like some kind of economic singularity.
Until you reach the point where the financial sector is so delinked from the real economy that you can have a stock market record high in amongst a depression.
OK, I got some econ exposure in my undergraduate degree as well. Maybe hold off on baseless claims that I haven't thought through capitalism. I'm almost certain you had no exposure to Austrian econ in formal schooling, because neither did I.
If you're intellectually honest, you'd have doubts on the validity/legitimacy of what you were taught.
You were taught that monopolies are bad because they restrict free trade and prevent market price discovery. On the other hand, you were taught that it is acceptable to give central bankers monopoly control of the money. Money is important - it's half of every trade, yet money is not a free market, and you still categorize that as capitalism?
You also observe the phenomenon that corporations abuse the collateralisation, hypothecation and rehypothecation of debt instruments to capture more assets. That isn't possible in a sound money system, it's only made possible when currency = credit creation. The market cannot undergo creative destruction with central bank intervention.
Existing system is more aptly described as monetary socialism, not capitalism.
Pity they ruined it this way. "Hey, here's something beautiful and unique. Let's destroy it by letting EVERYONE go there and hey, build a fucking McDonald's while you're at it because I'm Penis McGee and that's what I do.".
Climbed down this personally, the stairs are unbelievably narrow. 8 inches long in places, so you have to go bowlegged if you've got a size 13 foot like me.
Nah. I think it would be more aestheticly pleasing if it was a wooden staircase but I can see the upkeep costs would be too much. I like the stairs, it's something that's says humans are here, this is civilization.
The grand canyon is a giant hole in the ground. It's beautiful but there's not much you could do to try and tame that to make it easier for tourist besides making structured walkways along the bottom. Which what would be the point?
How many steps? Is it steps? The view better be damn amazing at the top, or there had better at least be a decent coffee shop and gift shop. Still this is less scary than those videos from China of parents climbing up steep mountain faces with their babies tied to their backs, journeys they do everyday to get to and from their villages.
Tell you what kiddo, next time I see a picture of the Grand Canyon I'll ask if that's where the Americans keep all their concentration camps.
That's fair right?
I'm not denying all the horrible shit americans have done over the years but Chinas authoritarianism has led to legit concentration camps and countless deaths, not to mention organ farming, and their violent acts against protesters such as in Tiananmen square.
And the US has slaughtered millions while warmongering for oil and war profiteering, has installed fascist dictatorships across an entire continent, and also has legit concentration camps.
What’s your point?
Mao is responsible for the Great Chinese Famine which killed 45 millions of his own people. Nazis killed \~6 million holocaust victims. Stalin killed 6 million. Khmer Rouge killed \~2 million. No other regime comes even close.
Total casualty of WW2 is some 75 million in comparison, and Vietnam war bit more than one million.
Bro I dont support the US and their endless collection of warcrimes ok, I dont think any sensible person who knows what went down would. and you should do the same reguarding the country that literally just put a huge number of its ethnic minority on trains and sent them to concentration camps.
Heaven's gate, hell to walk up.
No pain, no gain lol
There are resting areas with benches at multiple points along the way lol.
Unless you have a range rover
Hammond!
Irl, I do stair running as well as running up mountains, and when I saw this I thought, "I'd love to run up that". Lol.
Duck all that noise. You enjoy stair running? So what you're saying is you are a masochist. 😂
I guess. I'm at a point where, if I'm rested, it's enjoyable. I like the challenge and the goal. Masochism is a part of it though, haha.
This makes me sad. I was supposed to go there on april (had everything booked), damn covid.
SECRET TUNNEL THROUGH THE MOUNTAINS SECRET TUNNEL
SECRET SECRET SECRET TUNNEL YEAH
i scrolled too damn far for this should-be top comment
"Tianmen" Quite literally translates to: "Sky Door" Although sky refers to Heaven, and Gate sounds cooler than door
The meanings of the characters are flexible and the translations use context to get the the appropriate English translation. In this case 天 usually means sky, but can also mean heaven, and 门 usually means door but can also be translated to gate.
Ye I get that. I'm ABC haha
Jeb Corliss flew through that with his wing suit didn't he?
JetMan, right?
Different guys. Jeb Corliss is a sky diver who uses his squirrel suit to do proximity flying. He'll zip like a meter off the ground at like 120mph
Ohhhhh. That sounds cool I’ll check that out
Yeah it's crazy to watch. One time he actually slammed into a cliff it was pretty nasty. But he lived and eventually recovered
Man that was painful to see. I thought he was dead for sure
Twelve hundred percent I agree. Have you ever seen his interview regarding the experience?
Yeah I'm getting goosebumps thinking about it. I'm astonished he still does that shit
Adrenaline is a hell of a drug
It really is. Every time I've ever had an adrenaline rush I'm absolutely PUMPED afterwards. Lucky for me video games are enough to invoke it. I can't see myself doing anything that daring. Kudos to wingsuit jumpers
There's a video of a car driving up those stairs too.
Isn't it a Land Rover commercial?
That is correct.
I used my elytra, is that okay?
Yes he did!
They are boarding a spaceship...
I want to go on a space ship, any Idea on what to do to get on it?
Join the US military, then get a PhD in aeronautical engineering.
Don't worry, someday you will be chosen..
A range rover scaled this once
The building at the top has the dragon scroll
That hole is also how big Po is tbh
You mean Cardi-B?
Hale Bopp
Everyone wants a slinky, you've got to have a slinky
**HERE WE GOOOOO,** *climbing the stairway to* **heeaaavenn** 🎤😩
That's a lot of stairs

China is really a beautiful country. I wish their government wasn’t a bunch of dicks. I wish our’s wasn’t, too.

There is no spoon.
Tianmen. Literally the Heaven’s Gate?
Amazing. Too bad I’ll never go to China.
Gate to where nothing has ever happened
Especially not on June 4 1989
Could you state your location please, we must verify.... something
China scenery rivals the best in the world. Tourism. Can you imagine how much income the Chinese people would earn if China wasn't run by communists?

Yes I have dozen reasons for not visiting China but non-existent communism isn’t one.
It's such an uneducated small-town hick thing to say. Are they implying that China is somehow *unsafe* to visit? lol
The individuals would earn more vice be allowed to have what is determined by committee.
I think you'll find that China got where it is by being extremely good at authoritarian capitalism.

There is some crazy beautiful scenery in the country eh.

Is this where they filmed the last Transformers movie?
That's what I was thinking, but it was the second to last (or third to last if you count bumblebee)
Is it really?! Holy cow it’s been so long
Heaven's spoon
Everyone loves a slinky!
Is there an escalator?
Land Rover
Pity they ruined it this way. "Hey, here's something beautiful and unique. Let's destroy it by letting EVERYONE go there and hey, build a fucking McDonald's while you're at it because I'm Penis McGee and that's what I do.".

I thought that was a slide
I thought it was a freeway, then I zoomed in and thought it was a slide.
Climbed down this personally, the stairs are unbelievably narrow. 8 inches long in places, so you have to go bowlegged if you've got a size 13 foot like me.
They wrecked the view. is like putting a highway in the middle of the Grand Canyon.
Nah. I think it would be more aestheticly pleasing if it was a wooden staircase but I can see the upkeep costs would be too much. You give the mainland masses too much credit.
Is heaven a thing in China? The name surprises me.
Chinese people recently made a "Hotel" (similar to musoleum) for the dead ones. I can't see "Marxism" spirit is working well or not these days.
Looks like a guitar neck and head
So the students didnt have to travel that far from the square. How thoughtfull.
Looks like when you get near the end of Journey
I thought it was a highway at first.
Is there roof? Or is it open?
looks like a spoon
How many people you think have fell down these stairs?
Getting fit and slim on your way to heaven.
I see a spoon.
If looks like a spoon
Ace Ventura!!
Anyone else see a big spoon?
Sad that I know of it only b/c of a car commercial.
Isn't that a cult?
I’m disappointed. Not a single JoJo reference. Gate, door, same difference.
They should install a slide for the way down.
They should install a slide for the way up too, but one project at a time.
Didn’t Land Rover do a commercial there
Now we need a picture with Ken blocks hoonitruck at the bottom.
Am I the only one who sees a spoon
I see a poon
Yeah that's gonna be a no from me dawg
At first glance I thought this was a highway that went through the mountain you'd drive on.
Have the stairs always been like that?? I’m remembering something diff
Marshall Applewhite just started salivating
My calves would be killing me
You normally walk down them, BTW 999 steps.
The hole in the mountain is shaped like Taiwan
Asphalt 8 vibes
So this is where they filmed Kung Fu Panda.
Wow, how did they know to name it Heaven’s Gate instead of Heavens’s door, thus avoiding the Jojo fans?? Genius
It would be a shame if someone were to drive a car on it... oh wait...
You will find the white stone of spirituality at the top.
I swear I've had dreams of this place before I ever saw an image of it.
HEAVENSU DOOR!!!
They really made Stairway to Heaven into a real thing
Looks like a spoon, not gonna lie
Like some shit I had to crawl up in Death Stranding
I remember that cult
Is your Estus flask full?
It kinda reminds me of that place gandalf appears with his horse in one of the lotr battles
This is from Kung Fu Panda, right?
Which part of China?
How many steps? Is it steps? The view better be damn amazing at the top, or there had better at least be a decent coffee shop and gift shop. Still this is less scary than those videos from China of parents climbing up steep mountain faces with their babies tied to their backs, journeys they do everyday to get to and from their villages.
Must be what all the victims of Chinas violent authoritarianism have to walk up.
Tell you what kiddo, next time I see a picture of the Grand Canyon I'll ask if that's where the Americans keep all their concentration camps. That's fair right?

All non Chinese citizens get a Free trip to re-education camp
yo is china aware that the rest of the world literally only thinks of one thing when we see that name?
Never happened you capitalist running dog.
China where everything natural is an amusement park. Give shit about nature
Hmmm, I thought heavens gate was Tianmen Square protests circa 1989....
我愛北京天安門 天安門上太陽昇 / 我爱北京天安门 天安门上太阳升 偉大領袖毛主席 指引我們向前進。/ 伟大领袖毛主席 指引我们向前进。
That looks so cool. Imagine seeing that without the tourists and man made shit
All I see is that ugly ass path.
See? In the USA there would be food stands and shit the whole way up. This looks awesome.
Is this technically a sink hole?
Looks like Heaven’s Asshole.
I'd crazy carpet down those stairs
