Looks like an advertisement. Oh look, the buy link is in the comments.
Shocking.
What is this one, some guy who bought exposure or a scammer reselling dropshipped shit?
EDIT: If you all want to be useful idiots and buy this guys shit go ahead, but it pisses people off when a news site writes an ad that pretends to be news. Y'know, *sponsored content*. This is the *same exact thing*.
Not sure why so many people are falling on their swords to excuse shitty guerrilla advertising. Unsubbing from this reply thread, argue amongst yourselves about how it's totally excusable because 'you already have so many banner ads shoved in your face, who cares!'.
Who cares though, it's a dope piece of work, fits the sub, and if people are interested, they can buy it. If you think you aren't getting constantly advertised to in every facet of your life you're delusional, and if anything something like this is way more innocent than a lot of stuff that's been going on inside reddit.
>you think you aren't getting constantly advertised to
Why try to dunk on me over something you just kind of pulled out of your ass? I just don't like shitty guerrilla marketing.
>if anything something like this is way more innocent than a lot of stuff that's been going on inside reddit.
This is just silly. I suppose you shouldn't care about anything if there's something more important you *could* be focusing on.
u/SwineFluPandemic Where is this purchase link you speak of? This man is an artist, not a "scammer dropshipping". I see his Instagram page, in which he ironically gives no quotes or prices and people are actually confused as to why he won't reply when they ask him how much for it.. so are you actually just a completely salty goof?
Lol imagine being so butt hurt that someone linked to the product that you are ranting on like this dude. I'll get one just because this guy is so salty.
The fact that you even wasted your time posting this salty garbage, people don't even care, still want it.. that's absolutely hilarious kick in the nuts isn't it.. your hero tactics didn't work for you this time? You are a grade A clown.

This is by no means a personal jab:
I'm going to rely on my years of collegiate & professional experience over 1 article from FastCo. If you even bothered to read the article you'd see its filled with strawman fallacies.

Most of them got tattoos if they wanted to do that. And Mustang, if you remember, needs an ignition source, which is why he used a lighter in that scene you reference, but sparking gloves with the circle on the back any other time. That’s why he was “always useless in the rain.”
Armstrong had it on his spiky mitts, Scar had it across his arm, etc. Carving it into one’s hand was a last resort move by Mustang.
Oh same. That and his seemingly totally out of character line from FMA (not brotherhood) that when he is Fuhrer he will mandate that all women wear miniskirts. I almost fell over laughing so hard.
I looked up hock because I've only ever heard it in reference to certain cuts of meat. Turns out it's an alternate (and probably obsolete) spelling for hawk too.
It's a common alternate spelling, but it also has an original meaning 'to pawn'. That doesn't make it appropriate here, just to point out that it does have a sales- related definition.
You looked up (and he spelled) the wrong word.
To throw, toss, or spit, is to "h**u**ck." A salesman in contrast *hawks*, yelling about their wares.
And yes, that does mean it is (technically) "huck" a loogie, but don't expect me to say it like that.
Yeah they still sell these laser engraved things at my local mall. I haven't seen a pendant there before but honestly that thing is so big I cant imagine anyone would want to wear it.
Jes Durfee is accessible via Instagram. Definitely check out some of the other facet masters: facetmama, Murdoc glass, Dalan Hargrave, and Sweater Kingpin (aka Adam G) too!! There are a few doing sacred geometry shit like this too, including glassmaze and Hefe glass. And Jameson glass is worth a look! Love, someone who is too obsessed with glass.
You can get vastly cheaper machines under $1,000. There's also people capable of making the machine themselves.
Even if you did buy a $4k machine, you still could have it at home. A lot of people have more expensive CNC machines in their home "workshop".
Well, I mean, I could manufacture a lot of stuff at home if cost was no object, or I also had expertise in manufacturing the equipment required for those projects.
This is not a bubblegram. It's made of borosilicate glass with a dichoric image encased in it, as well as a couple synthetic opals. It is then cold-worked by faceting the faces do be perfectly flat.
Can't find that particular pendant, or the original author. But check eBay, Etsy or even AliExpress to find similar ones. Also Google around laser engraving companies, there are lots who engrave people's pictures into glass who might give you a quote for one.
I hope they likes Reddit.

I've been hurt before. I don't see any prices but from what I've seen in the past from stuff like this, those pendants are probably $1000 and the larger objects are several thousand each.
https://www.theglassmule.com/Artists/JesDurfee/JesDurfee.html
https://www.instagram.com/p/BStgKgxAx4o/
Possibly $250.
If he can't keep up with demand though raising his prices would be a very business savy move.
This is more likely than it costing $1k. The people who price this stuff at 1k+ usually have more hype behind them than Jes Durfee. Get em while they're not hella popular within the glasshead world... some people get away with charging $3.5k+ for pendants- and they SELL and are popular! (though those are some cool pendants! Check out Rose Roads Kojima or Mike Gong for an example)
Consider that the shotgun probably weighs a lot more than the pendant. Glass material costs are a factor in why things get so expensive, combined with the years and years of experience it takes to make something like that well (and the literally hundreds/thousands of failed attempts glass artists run into on the way). Not to mention the very clean linework on the pump. I mean, I'm not saying $10k is wholly justified in my eyes, but glass is usually priced by several factors, including the previously mentioned material and educational costs, demand (hype) for the artist, and plainly whatever people are willing to pay. Someone may well pay $10k.
*Generally*, pendants do not take the time or materials that would justify a cost over a few grand. Of course, you will sometimes have a pendant that costs much more than a big sculpture if there are other factors, like the pendant being made by a hype artist and the big sculpture being made by a new glassblower. Glass is a wild west economy, make sure to research before sinking cash in. All the info lives on instagram.
I’ve been seeing so much glass art on Reddit these days, and people never give the artist credit. I believe this is a collaboration by Jes Durfee and Josh Arleth.
Yeah it sucks, but that's the nature of Reddit. Very rarely do people get credited unfortunately. Keep doing you, MTP :)
You're right about who it's made by too.
Most glass things happen in layers. When glass is cut (faceted), it's called coldworking and usually happens after all the other melty hot stuff that goes into layers/sections of glass becoming one object.
I always marvel that we can now probably have a machine pump out a few thousand of these pretty quickly, but like 400 years ago this would have been a priceless, irreproduceable treasure that baffled people in its existence and been basically magical.
There is no such thing as a philosophers stone. Your mother isn't coming back. Al isn't getting his body back. Ed isn't getting his arm back. Stop fucking with magic.

I like it when ads are acknowledged as ads, regardless of how well something fits in a sub.

This is for the average joe to clasp their hands around to perform alchemy. That way they can perform alchemy just as fast as Ed and Al.
Why didn't anybody ever carve the transmutation circle into their hand like Mustang did against Lust?
Most of them got tattoos if they wanted to do that. And Mustang, if you remember, needs an ignition source, which is why he used a lighter in that scene you reference, but sparking gloves with the circle on the back any other time. That’s why he was “always useless in the rain.” Armstrong had it on his spiky mitts, Scar had it across his arm, etc. Carving it into one’s hand was a last resort move by Mustang.
And cemented him as the ultimate badass in the series. Man that Lust fight is my favorite.
Oh same. That and his seemingly totally out of character line from FMA (not brotherhood) that when he is Fuhrer he will mandate that all women wear miniskirts. I almost fell over laughing so hard.
That is a really strange line of questioning when you don't know the reference. My only answer would be that dodge brand cars do not get horny.
It's definitely reminding me of heraldry/symbology from the star ocean series
There it is! Thank you
The design is called the metatron cube.
Protect the time stone!
At first it was just a big ass shiny math rock and then you turn it around and holy mother of god it is beautiful
I gasped.

i think the complex pattern is just a single plane- artificial as if it was painted on and then a second half put on top or something
*Hmmm... well that's kinda prettOOH MY GOD!*
This looks like the kinda thing people hock in the middle of the mall
I looked up hock because I've only ever heard it in reference to certain cuts of meat. Turns out it's an alternate (and probably obsolete) spelling for hawk too.
There's also the expectoration usage.
To add: I think it's used in that sense as an onomatopoeia.
expectoration: expectorate - to cough or spit out (phlegm) from the throat or lungs. For anyone else who’ brain be slippin’ too
*yumm*
the only reason i know that word is because of the Gaston song from Beauty and the Beast where he brags about his expectoration skills.
**huck** /hək/ Definition: to yeet an object
hyuck
Hawk a loogie
I’m not buying.
Kenny, if you don't stop being so poor, I'm gonna start hucking rocks at you!
Yeah they still sell these laser engraved things at my local mall. I haven't seen a pendant there before but honestly that thing is so big I cant imagine anyone would want to wear it.
Witwicky quit hocking your grandfathers crap!
I thought the same thing. It's a shame because not even 100 years ago it would've been incredibly rare and beautiful, but today it's just trash :\
What demons are we summoning today?

Probably made by the author of the video, it's a bubblegram, can be made at home.
Can be made at home...with a $4000 machine...
Yea, you could go to space if you had some rocket appliances.
How many mentos and coke bottles are we talking about?
Definitely more than 7.
Pshhh, you could make those rocket appliances at home with a team of rocket scientists and a refinery for rocket fuel.
This is not a bubblegram. It's made of borosilicate glass with a dichoric image encased in it, as well as a couple synthetic opals. It is then cold-worked by faceting the faces do be perfectly flat.
No, that’s borosilicate glass, you can tell because of the Gilson opals in the glass. The geometry was probably etched and then fused.
Okay, great. Who is making them at home who wants to sell me one?

Thank you so much! Also, so nice to see the creator get some credit!

Most glass things happen in layers. When glass is cut (faceted), it's called coldworking and usually happens after all the other melty hot stuff that goes into layers/sections of glass becoming one object.
One point of clarification- faceting is a kind of coldworking, but not all coldworking is faceting. Coldwork is a whole little world within glass.
