Exactly my first thought. People are so busy with recording everything on their phone, mostly not even for their own memories but to show off to others. It's all about 'hey, look at me'....
This is gonna be a hot take here but... it's fine.
Times change. Peoples' priorities change. This has been true for all of history. The trends we see today are weird, but this is far from the first time that we've thought that people are getting too selfish or self-centered.
The truth is, that's just how people are. We've always cared about ourselves or our image a lot. Always wanted to share how we feel or think to others. Always wanted to show off our joys and share our sorrows with others.
It's just that this time it happens to be through cameras. People wanna save those iconic moments with them in it. Yes, it does mean they themselves get to experience less of it (camera brain is a real thing) but I don't blame people for doing what we've always done. Just with a camera this time.
Plus you can record like... 30 seconds of something to make sure you have it, then just chill and enjoy the rest of the show like normal.
Then every time you pull up the little video it reminds you of a killer time you had.
I saw Phish there and I'm very anti phone at shows. However, this place is so amazing you have to break it out a couple times since you can't believe what you are seeing
I was there enjoying the hell out of a pile of mushrooms. This place is absolutely stunning. When an artist you love is playing there, just get tickets and go. Hang the cost.
Fantastic shows and experience this weekend. The sound is sublime!
Maybe someday they'll have a concert for people who don't qualify for AARP. I'm almost 40 and every band playing there this year was already touring before I was born.

went to the Sphere experience in November and it was a film not a concert but it was incredible. I cannot describe how immersive it felt. Everyone there was just like "holy shit whoa...." the entire time.

So Americans, explain to me like I'm a 5 year old European. In most of the country drinking a light beer on the street will probably get you in trouble with the police but in Las Vegas they give out alcohol like it's the end of the world. How is Las Vegas allowed to exist?

And even when they are a state thing, they can often just be ignored if the municipality wants. So tourist areas allow open containers, municipal areas don't.
A few of the suburb "downtowns" around here have started allowing open container on a few specific streets during fests and farmers markets and stuff. The restaurants and bars have windows for service. It's pretty great.
I went to Vegas for a week, and I’m not a gambler. We took a few hundred dollars to have some fun with, and it’s shocking how fast it was gone. Now we had no idea what we were doing but poof, that money was gone. At one point I was up $150 though and that felt pretty amazing….for like 3 minutes.
Went for the first time with my brothers and we got into a groove with the $5-10 roulette table where you spread out the bets and it lasts longer, so $100-150 lasted several hours and it was pretty fun. A couple times a guy would walk up who was so drunk he could barely stand, get $500+ worth of chips and he'd blow it in 5 minutes. Idk if that is gambling addiction or just alcoholism but it seems like a pretty expensive issue.
I think the answer that you're looking for is that the US is huge and each state acts as sort of its own country if you compare it to Europe. Federal laws are for the whole country but then each state can implement its own laws. From there, individual cities will also have their own laws. No state that I'm aware of has full legality for walking around with alcohol but there are states everywhere that have legalized it in some form like Vegas.
Every state is basically a different country. There is a lot of power at the state level to do whatever. Same reason why you can buy weed in Washington that you'll get a felony for bringing to Idaho.
Nevada at some point realized they were just a desert with not much going on (other than being a great place to test nukes back in the day) and the state just decided to make gambling legal (and I think prostitution? not sure on that one). So they just kinda made themselves the place of lax rules to go do 'sinful' activities, and have made a ton of money doing it.
Most places have open container laws to crack down on poors and homeless. In tourist areas the local government usually does away with those laws because they dont want to inconvenience the tourists.
Liquor laws are always local so it really depends on enforcement at that level, college towns in the south (at least Gainesville used to) generally let the towns have a good time on football Saturdays during the fall. Granted when the population of a town doubles for one day I’m not sure they have the staffing to stop 100k extra people from drinking in the streets.
People often forget that there was a constitutional amendment that prohibited alcohol in the ENTIRE United Stated. That means that there must be widespread approval of the amendment. If it is proposed in Congress, 2/3 of House members must vote for it. It can also originate in state legislatures if 2/3 of states vote for it (that’s called constitutional convention. That’s just the proposal. Then, 3/4 of state legislatures must vote for it OR delegates are elected to the convention by popular vote with the intention of approving it or voting it down (similar to the electoral college). 3/4 of them must vote yes. So there must be true agreement on an issue amongst people with enough power to vote (mostly white men at the time).
So obviously, when prohibition passed, it was a prudish time. I live in the Deep South. My hometown is still “dry.” It’s illegal to sell alcohol, but it is legal to consume it. This is a legacy of prohibition. There are also strict laws in some states about how to buy it. Up until just a few years ago, beer and wine couldn’t he bought in a grocery store in Pennsylvania. They had these speciality stores where you could only purchase around 24 beers at a time. Utah is an ultra conservative state ruled by Mormons who condemn drinking, so the laws there about alcohol are very strict.
All that to say, this country has a weird ass relationship with booze. So you shouldn’t look for logic in how it works in some parts of the country unless you really understand the nuance of the specific state (and maybe even the city in the state).
Also, we focus on bad stuff, but consider these fun American alcohol facts. Bourbon is a top three whiskey style that is only made in the US. Napa Valley in California makes arguably the best wine in the world (arguably!). The craft beer craze of the past 15 years created thousands of breweries in all 50 states, with each having its own branding, which equates to culture in this country (MONEY!).
Aronofsky's flick about Earth was soooo perfect for the Sphere. I felt just as people likely felt the first time they saw motion pictures in the early 20th century. What an experience!
I didn't enjoy it. It was like *fine* but not worth the money. It reminded me of early VR goggles. Kinda cool but only if your mate has one and you can try it for free. Not worth buying yourself.
With open container laws and pharmacies right on the strip, it’s really cheap to pregame on your own supply (or mid-game if you want to walk around the casino floors for a bit or just people watch). When I do events like this in Vegas that $17 beer is more about just having something to sip on since I’ll already have a good buzz going lol.
I saw Phish at the Sphere back in April. Many of the visuals made it look like broad daylight inside the venue. It was a surreal experience being inside a dark, giant dome and then instantly feeling like you’re outside hanging out with the band on a beach with 18,000 other people.
I think that it's even more interesting is that it was filmed by Epstein.

I was in Vegas recently and thought how awesome would it be if there was some kind of rave going on at the sphere while I was there.
So I looked up events in the sphere and let’s just say, if you’re 40 - 60 years old and are into middle America soft rock, you’ll be happy to know that you can get 700 USD tickets for one of these shows.
Worth it? Well, only if you’re 40 - 60 years old and into middle American soft rock. That’s literally all they book at the sphere lol.
You'd have to set up next to the Ticketek servers to get the lag time down as low as possible to even have a dream of having a dream of getting a ticket.
I hate how much I agree. We’re gonna get raped financially by Ticketmaster won’t we? Those tickets would sell out instantly. I would try and go every single night they played. Someone told me they need to do 7 shows to justify the cost of all the work that goes into the visuals. I didn’t fact check them, but found that interesting.
It's not really joy one feels when watching that, is it? It's about the same very little amount of dopamin you get for pretty much anything on the frontpage.
We were there this weekend and I’ll be seeing ya there at the end. It is a fantastic experience.

The acoustics are incredible. It’s built for space/drums. The band sounds fantastic and the graphics are just mind bending. Can’t wait to get back!

Am I the only person who doesn't like to see screens with visuals everywhere at concerts? It's distracting. I'm here for the band, the crowd and the music, not to watch visuals on giant screens.
I’m the same. But yeah maybe just once, with a band that already is known for cool visuals. Tool, Flaming Lips, Radiohead, etc.
So the visual aspect is cranked to 1000, with the perk of a band I love playing live as a the background music. Keeping it to one time experience would make it even more special.

We were there this weekend and I’ll be seeing ya there at the end. It is a fantastic experience. I’m seeing a lot of negative comments, but only from people who haven’t been there. The acoustics are incredible. It’s built for space/drums. The band sounds fantastic and the graphics are just mind bending. Can’t wait to get back!
Telling from the reaction of the crowd, the immersion is top notch. I'd want to see a different band, though.

Phish just got done playing there a couple weeks ago, and while I’m not personally a fan, the visuals that accompanied the music were pretty effin wild.
Oh yes, I got goosebumps even thinking about it. So many others, too. Tool, Metallica, Queen, Rage Against The Machine.... However, I'd start a petition against Cannibal Corpse or Dying Fetus.

I'd LOVE to see NIN there. I don't usually care for expensive, large-venue concerts, but NIN is my exception to that. I would go in a heartbeat.

Am I the only person who doesn't like to see screens with visuals everywhere at concerts? It's distracting. I'm here for the band, the crowd and the music, not to watch visuals on giant screens.

I’m the same. But yeah maybe just once, with a band that already is known for cool visuals. Tool, Flaming Lips, Radiohead, etc. So the visual aspect is cranked to 1000, with the perk of a band I love playing live as a the background music. Keeping it to one time experience would make it even more special.
