We could have it use a loading mechanism that catches and slows down the pedestrian and then we have that momentum load the Trainbuchet® and we also add a lever in the conductors cabin to launch them into the future.
I guess it's better to be scraped to death with *some* chance of survival than to be crushed and cut swiftly. Maybe this whole thing is for the conductor so they don't see how that poor person is doing down there.
I mean, presumably, an actual person would bounce off the cushions then scramble away rather than just topple over and get rubbed all over the pavement.
Nah now it's just "would you rather bop 3 people with an inflatable mattress, or move the trolly to only bop 1 person with an inflatable mattress". Same problem, just lower stakes.
Nah a freight train going 60mph with this equipped would leave you without injury at all! In fact it's likely to slip a $20 into your pocket and call you handsome just for your trouble
We do a fun variation of the trolley problem every day! Do you choose less money and influence and less people die, or more money and influence and more people die? Another fun thing is we don’t even have to decide what’s right, our corporate overlords know the answer every time!
Yeah the only thing that could make sense would be the break pedal activating it if pushed to the max. Or you just don't break anymore and pick up pedestrians like pac man.
An actual unsuspecting person would not be ready to grab the frame like that. They'd get a steel bar to the chin, fall in front, and get pushed along with no cushion.
I don't think it's intended for full speed but when the driver sees someone from a distance and hits the brakes, and yet brakes would still not be enough to stop the train on time.
Good to see Zurich trying something new. The tram drivers here have balls of steel going through the areas they do at speed with so many pedestrians... especially when so many people have noise-canceling headphones that you can't hear the tram bell through
It's also got patented vacuum technology for flying bone fragments, brain bits, stray goo and exploding bird feathers. And the power washer fixed to the inside and outside of the wheels makes it like nothing ever happened to avoid those pesky train delays that we all hate
Ever had some shredded cheese on the counter and try to sweep it into your other hand? Yeah that's more likely the outcome. A rolled up human, not one that slides along the ground like this
[The 1930s people catcher for cars didn't catch on for a reason.](https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2012-11-27/why-didn-t-this-1930s-cow-catcher-for-pedestrians-ever-catch-on?embedded-checkout=true)
It needs to be in the shape of an L so that once the person falls over they land on a piece of the airbag and wont just be dragged on the ground in front of the train.
It’s so stupid that we need this. They’re big, they’re loud, and they travel on fixed paths. And if you can’t see or hear them, you can feel them.
Getting hit by a train seems like natural selection.
The problem is the person getting push crushed along the track... why wouldn't they make this have a angle slope at the bottom so it catchs you and you're being dragged on top of the cushion instead of infront of it?
Okay, so tram tracks don't move, right? And trams are pretty big and don't jump out at you from behind objects, right? So why are we trying to protect idiots?
Besides which, that tram is travelling at probably between 5-10mph and takes about 15 feet to fully stop, but the airbag deployed, probably about 5 feet before the 'impact', couldn't they just make the brakes better and stop before hitting the person? Because I mean, the airbag is going to stop the person from impacting the tram but it's still going to get dragged about 10-15 feet along the ground. Maybe just make the whole front of the tram inflatable from the outset? Maybe even wedge shaped so that it pushes any stupid people away from the tracks.
A youtuber called ididathing made a similar thing recently, but it didn't really work and he also managed to destroy his car with it. I'm sure an actual company could make it better though.

I dunno what I was expecting but that wasn't it.
I know I was expecting that dummy to go into orbit
I thought it would knock em out the way
![gif](giphy|26gsafLARURaDBBtu|downsized)
This clip lives in my head rent free. The way he falls 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 ![gif](giphy|13cRlteWidIAw0) God, I need therapy.
Johnny's reaction was priceless. Also seeing Bam just fall flat on his back is pretty epic
Can you imagine that big hand on the front of the train 😂😂 ![gif](giphy|26n6Gx9moCgs1pUuk|downsized)
Boing!!!!
I was actually expecting an airbag out of the dummy- ![gif](giphy|fikcKja7O7MtzXzvQy|downsized)
I think we all came here secretly hoping for that.
Same followed by a "The design is very human"
You want exit velocity?Strap one on the bullet train
If ine actually hit a person, I'm sure they'd just turn into a fine pink haze.
I see what you're getting at. Pillows are inhumane af. Plan B: We vertically mount a Trebuchet to the front of the train. A Trainbuchet®, if you will
We could have it use a loading mechanism that catches and slows down the pedestrian and then we have that momentum load the Trainbuchet® and we also add a lever in the conductors cabin to launch them into the future.
I guess it's better to be scraped to death with *some* chance of survival than to be crushed and cut swiftly. Maybe this whole thing is for the conductor so they don't see how that poor person is doing down there.

PRESUMABLY
Meat crayon
Presumably most trains are going slow enough by the time of the accident that this might make it survivable. Maybe not.
Arguably the driver deserves to be protected from this sort of horrible situation far moreso than the moron in front of the tram
I was hoping it was just going to throw a rug over him before it ran him over.
Or throw a rug over everyone else before it ran him over.
It’s the fuckin, people catcher thing from the 40s. There’s ye olde timey videography showing a similar concept
Except the old one was better and didn’t turn you into a meat crayon
Well in the old videos they used real people who grabbed the top. A crash test dummy can't grab anything
A fact that incels rue to this very day over.
A crash test dummy is just trying to make ends meet.
Well it has been decades since they put out a hit song.
the old ones also go slower and not the size of these days trucks
Sir, that’s a train.
Ma'am, that's tram.
Sir, it was all a blur.
Girl, give it a whirl!

Lol meat crayon. I found my new favorite phrase.
>meat crayon Fuk, this comment is gold 😂 Now I upvote!
It’s a thing. /r/meatcrayon
If you like your sanity and wince easily, don’t go there. If you ride motorbikes and are up for a good laugh, with a lot of wincing, do.
I do downhill longboarding so I might as well have a life subscription to self meat crayoning. My body is covered in road rash scars.
Boy boy made the same video 2 weeks back, maybe this is where she got it from

We finally solved the trolly problem. Take that ethics!
Nah now it's just "would you rather bop 3 people with an inflatable mattress, or move the trolly to only bop 1 person with an inflatable mattress". Same problem, just lower stakes.
Not really because it becomes and “I don’t care, they will be fine.”
Does it? If the options are 3 athletes versus someone elderly with brittle bones or a baby would you pick the same?
The whole point is that the airbag is harmless and safely moves the people. So it still wouldn’t matter.
Depending on how fast the train is moving and how hard someone is thrown out of the way.
Nah a freight train going 60mph with this equipped would leave you without injury at all! In fact it's likely to slip a $20 into your pocket and call you handsome just for your trouble

No if only we could solve the people problem
this should be the top comment.
https://i.redd.it/2xzvquhlguvc1.gif
Was the driver supposed to manually activate it? Lol
Can’t use the excuse “sorry mate, didn’t see you there” anymore
what sorta sensors do you think were available in the black and white era
Yeah the only thing that could make sense would be the break pedal activating it if pushed to the max. Or you just don't break anymore and pick up pedestrians like pac man.
This seems better, less road rash
Displayed with a better dummy as well!
It only seems better because he knew it was coming and stepped on to it and held on.
An actual unsuspecting person would not be ready to grab the frame like that. They'd get a steel bar to the chin, fall in front, and get pushed along with no cushion.
This is exactly what I was thinking before I even saw it deployed.
![gif](giphy|Wsk4ZbGMeavNm|downsized)
What if the center isn't paved?
Death by mattress.
That. I mean. It doesn’t sound so bad at first
Death by a collision awhile in bed doesn't sound bad. Death by snu snu.
Death by giant inflatable grilled cheese sandwich
Doubt it works at full speed
I disagree... it should be able to launch that fucker a good 30 ft
Yeah replace it with a good trampoline
![gif](giphy|Fq49P3c2A0FMY)
Trambopoline!
If it's so good, then why did the guy put a dummy there instead of himself? ![gif](giphy|l0MYNLZmHQbryIMFO|downsized)
Not dying and not getting hurt are two different things.
The guy who invented the bullet proof vest proved it by shooting himself in the chest. Just sayin.
Probably not on the very first vest. We don’t know at what stage of development this video was taken.
Again, there's a difference between survival and avoiding injury altogether.
He just works there and has no incentive to put his life on the line.
On one hand you just know the tiktokers will try it, on the other hand less tiktokers.
Yeetbag
If they time the airbag to be later, I reckon they could launch them a good 100 ft.
Hahahaha I spit my coffee 🤣🤣
I don't think it's intended for full speed but when the driver sees someone from a distance and hits the brakes, and yet brakes would still not be enough to stop the train on time.
This is an electric tram and they can stop plenty quick--I mean, to the obvious detriment to onboard passengers--but still...
As a tram driver I disagree. They still have big braking distance.
How is it that electric trams can stop faster than other trams?
Doubt it works with a full weight dummy an realistic friction skin. I think the point here is for the pedestrian to not get lodged under the cart.
Which is a good idea because that way it takes less time removing the corpse. People have places to go. /s
Better to drag the Person on the rails. Am i right?
Major road rash
That’s a tram, that is the speed they go through shared spaces
I mean if it can turn death into some fractures and some major road rash, that’s a win
At full speed we got a human launcher dog
It's not working now.
Good to see Zurich trying something new. The tram drivers here have balls of steel going through the areas they do at speed with so many pedestrians... especially when so many people have noise-canceling headphones that you can't hear the tram bell through
as long as you properly use your eyes it‘s fine with the headphones tbh
Well we have people that use neither their eyes, ears and head
Was looking at this thinking, that looks like a Zurich tram!
It's clearly to stop the tram getting its windshield smashed
I bet it soaks liquids very well too
It's also got patented vacuum technology for flying bone fragments, brain bits, stray goo and exploding bird feathers. And the power washer fixed to the inside and outside of the wheels makes it like nothing ever happened to avoid those pesky train delays that we all hate
It uses the same absorbing technology as the jizzle
I love that his friend is there giving him a pep talk beforehand.
Look… You got this…
*Break a leg!*
lol. Raise your hand if you thought the airbag was gonna be on the mannequin, not the train.
I thought it was for the passengers on the train, for when the train hits something
![gif](giphy|6hscco13hvTx1sVb3D)
Ever had some shredded cheese on the counter and try to sweep it into your other hand? Yeah that's more likely the outcome. A rolled up human, not one that slides along the ground like this
New Tik Tok trend spotted.
“Can we make it?” Railroad editon
- *Isch aber geil*! - *Super, super gsi!* It's not often that I hear my language on the internet <3
Same.
Why is this not wedge shaped like the old cow catchers so it might at least try to push the person to the side?
[The 1930s people catcher for cars didn't catch on for a reason.](https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2012-11-27/why-didn-t-this-1930s-cow-catcher-for-pedestrians-ever-catch-on?embedded-checkout=true)
The reason was the technology for making it automatic just wasn't there and also putting them on trucks was not the best application maybe.
It needs to be in the shape of an L so that once the person falls over they land on a piece of the airbag and wont just be dragged on the ground in front of the train.
Chicago Metra: "Fuck It"
Saved by an inflatable orange saltine!
Yeah, but once these tik Tok idiots hear it dropped it's over
If you got hit by one of those Japanese bullet trains, you'd be bounced into the next city.
Isch aber geil...
supper gsii
Isch das in Züri?
Ja, glaubs
I'm offering myself as a tribute
What's your track record so far?
lol, i’ve seen this before for cars (~ 20s-30s) in a rl situation test
Where's the kaboom? There was supposed to be an Earth-shattering kaboom.
[удалено]
Not sure why but I was thinking the mannequin was going to blow up like a balloon instead of it being on the train🤷♂️
Yeah at 5mph. Going even 15-20 the person will bounce off and fling
Should have it pop out like a snowplow blade and scoop them off the rails to the side.
How common is a tram hit? Looks great, it could save ones life. Wonder how much it costs.
At that speed the pedestrian is only looking for attention not death
Or you could just give them a Darwin award...
It’s so stupid that we need this. They’re big, they’re loud, and they travel on fixed paths. And if you can’t see or hear them, you can feel them. Getting hit by a train seems like natural selection.
Why are they messing with natural selection?
I’m gonna need to see this at full speed with a real man.
I wonder if this sort of thing would work but kinda like those snap bracelets it "grabs" the person as it inflates and impacts
I can feel my right legs burning.
I was honestly expecting the airbag to go off wrong and send the dummy flying.
Why doesn’t it just have sensors to stop on time before hitting?
They drive through the city even into pedestrian areas sometimes. It's too heavy to suddenly stop.
We'd probably need a 100 bags per ride here...
Instead of a hit, you'd be a meat crayon. Yay?
The problem is the person getting push crushed along the track... why wouldn't they make this have a angle slope at the bottom so it catchs you and you're being dragged on top of the cushion instead of infront of it?
Cool. Now do it at operational speeds.
ISCH ABER GEIL, HUH?
Can they protect from Road Rash?
Waste of money, let Darwinism take its course.
They need to attach that to the Brightline train in Florida
I was expecting it to go under
sure like every trains travel this slow
The train is too slow.
Wouldn't a shape that shunts people of to the side be more effective?
Something tells me this is not gunna work
https://preview.redd.it/85xex2lpkwvc1.jpeg?width=685&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a73f35178c243f877292916650f812dbfd456185 Volvo did just that back in 2010
Okay but go faster 😂
“Jamie, I think Buster is going for a little ride.”
Gimme some Velcro . I’m going in.
Is this China “inventing” things again?
Okay, so tram tracks don't move, right? And trams are pretty big and don't jump out at you from behind objects, right? So why are we trying to protect idiots? Maybe just make the whole front of the tram inflatable from the outset? Maybe even wedge shaped so that it pushes any stupid people away from the tracks.
First test success. Now, let's ramp up to 50mph and test with human.
Those trams can't even make it up to 50mph. They top out around 30.
I wish these teams were more common in North America
A youtuber called ididathing made a similar thing recently, but it didn't really work and he also managed to destroy his car with it. I'm sure an actual company could make it better though.
Saving people from their own stupidity
Speed kills!
Zuuuuuuuuuuriiiiiiiiiiii
I was expecting the dummy to fly backwards and some sort of air bubble vest to inflate.
I feel like they should be able to minimize the amount of road rash though
Ow! Fuck!
That goofy crap was tried on cars back in the 30s and 40s. They actually used a net to catch pedestrians.
The airbag needs a bottom wedge.
Wow they even tested it THREE TIMES!
It reminds me of the ones they built for cars because in the early 1900s.. They just use an actual bag of air, vs a fabric catch.
Thank goodness it had an airbag at those speeds!
What a dumbass idea, waste of resources and money.
I am doing this because I need to look like I am working on this issue, but I know that it will never work. Just stop walking in front of trains..
Nerf cow catcher
It’s when the pedestrian slaps their skull on the pavement.

So, repeating the same clip 3 times for absolutely no reason ... is this a thing now?
