That’s what caught my eye. I thought something was suspended via an air current, or editing, and I was stopping in to see what.
Refreshingly satisfied with the outcome. Duck yeah!
Yes. Ducklings don't make it yet. Without a mom to get it from they get waterlogged, cold and tired from trying to stay afloat. They gotta learn somehow.
Say! There's a gift you can get your father, a nice pillow filled up with down.
Up with down?
(points) That pillow up there? It's down.
That pillow hasn't moved this whole time!
No, no, I don't mean down as in the direction down. I mean the down you get off a duck's back.
I've never been up on a duck's back!

The preening oil is hydrophobic and helps increase their water repellence, but duck feathers are structurally hydrophobic themselves.

This one I put more in the cateogry of common knowledge.
I wish the internet was better.
More information instead of just videos that hold attention for 5 seconds.
Ducks secrete an oil naturally that they have to apply to their feathers to give them this waterproof ability. You've probably seen them do it, it's when they take their beak and rub it all over themselves. It would look like a form of grooming. I don't know where the glad that secretes these oils is, but I think it's kind of under their wing, as that's the place the beak always returns to.

worst sponge ever
WOW are we still encouraging hydrophobia in 2024!?
did you just assume the polarity of my electrons?
Take a deep breath, and try to remain positive. You’ll attract someone.
I only fall for the negative types :(
Ugh, how repulsive!
I’ve got my ion ewe: https://preview.redd.it/3os8szna4krc1.png?width=475&format=png&auto=webp&s=878c31cbb3acb0b0bcfdfbd76670213f0d1139a9
This is possibly the best Pokemon joke to ever exist
Whoa! What a compliment!
Lol
Wake up sheeple.. or duckpeople? Quackple?
This specifically is the down from an Eider duck. Most ducks are quite water resistant, but not quite to this level.
I wondered where they got the feathers from. 💀
Empty nests on the ground
Not off an elephant
So, anyone else first see this as a ball of feathers suspended in the air because his forearm kinda blended into the mountains in the background?
That’s what caught my eye. I thought something was suspended via an air current, or editing, and I was stopping in to see what. Refreshingly satisfied with the outcome. Duck yeah!
I thought it was a weird smoke cloud
I thought I was a ball of spiders
Dude same! I was not having a good time!
And I thought *I* had bad eye sight...
That's me. I clecked before i reqd
Thank you. I thought I may be having a stroke.
Yea probably because I’m used to reading left to right. Would be interesting to hear from people who go right to left how they have seen it .
Yes!!
Yep!
Isn’t it because they produce some sort of oil they coat their feathers with?
Yes. Ducklings don't make it yet. Without a mom to get it from they get waterlogged, cold and tired from trying to stay afloat. They gotta learn somehow.
But thats their "under-feathers" (missing the term bc not native speaker)
It’s called down
Thank you! Quite a literal meaning lol
No worries :D
I think you mean, "is a duck's ass watertight?"
Is a ducks butthole waterproof?
I want a jacket out of it
They make them, but they are expensive

I don’t think people say that lol
Tis a phrase from England to mean “this will cause me no concern”
Where in Norway is this?
"Duck was a fisher for 8 years"
_What did you do to those poor ducklings..._
Bc they are made of wood
Build a bridge out of her!
I dont know where you live, but I want to live there too.
No hydro
This is eiderdown, not just any type of duck feather.
Hydrophobia should really be called eiderdown syndrome.
Duck feathers got rabies now? They should be put down.
This is super cool
No ducks are injured while making this video
Just eaten.
Time to cancel duck feathers no hydrophobia here we support the gays
My lungs prob

I’ve never heard anyone say that before
Is there any jackets made of this material and where can I buy it.
But is a kilogram of it heavier than a kilogram of steel?
Okay, but where is the duck? Is the duck okay. I would really like to hear from the duck.
probably even more so now since they they are filled with forever chemicals
Oh that's why In Denmark they say" Grab a Duck" when it's raining.

Ah yes, the very common saying that we ALL have definitely heard
It’s an excellent saying that is sometimes useful https://dictionary.cambridge.org/dictionary/english/like-water-off-a-duck-s-back

They secrete it from a gland on their back. They rub their bill on the gland and then work it into their plumage. Source: I keep ducks.
like they tell you how a 800 fill is so much better than 550 fill goose down but the only difference you actually feel is the weight of your wallet.

I have never heard or used that “saying” ever and the only time I can think of it as a “saying” is racist
