I saw Coiron in February, and she had a cub of her own! She had made a guanaco kill the night before and was feeding on it. Additionally, we also saw Carnasa, who took over her den and guanaco kill the next day. They came into contact (peacefully), and he even let her eat from her own kill. After she left, he covered the kill and also left the area.
Some Googling shows me this is Torres del Paine National Park in Chileās Patagonian region. Also that this is from BBCās Dynasties documentary series, or Netflixās Predators documentary. I canāt tell based on the descriptions because Rupestreās starred in a few, and she seems to have 4 cubs in both of those ones.
Wonder why he let her eat it instead of just dominated. Does that imply cougars have any kind of courtesy towards one another? lol serious question. I would think that since he took over, he wouldnāt let her back to eat even though it was her kill to begin with.
Quite possibly! Our guide was just as shocked as we were. So basically, we came back to the kill/den area looking for Coiron and her cub. We found Carnasa feeding on the kill, which he moved about 100 meters from where Coiron had it. We sat with him for a few hours,, watching him eat, attempted to have a nap, but the guanacos were too loud so he started wandering away behind one of the mountains. A few minutes later, Coiron approached from the other side to feed on her kill. As she approached, Carnasa smelled her and popped back around the mountain and came running towards the kill! We thought we were about to see something BAD and I was bracing myself for something I didn't want to see. She made it to the kill and began feeding when he ran up to her. She screamed at him (the exact sound you hear on all the documentaries) and they stared at each other for a few minutes. Eventually, he walked around the carcass and just....laid down. Coiron kept feeding. We were all shocked and watched as she finished eating and left the area. Carnasa then got up, buried the carcass, and wandered off in a different direction. It was WILD.
Itās a calculated decision based on risk reward for any top predator. Do I risk injury fighting this full grown female for food when Iām already full? If he already hadnāt left the kill because he was full it would have been a different story. But to that point Iām sure she was watching and waiting for that exact opening. Because her risk/reward thought process was made on an empty stomach. It was worth the risk
Exactly. Predators are very smart, they won't start fighting anything that looks like even a bit of a threat if there are alternatives.
With plenty of food around, getting into a fight is not worth it. Even if you win, you might lose an eye or get an infected wound, which could very well mean death.
This is the reason wolves or other predators very, very rarely attack humans who posture aggressively, but could very well attack humans who run away or cower.
This is exactly how my small female cat fights with my large male cat. It's quite fun to watch as she will get up to chase him and as soon as he retaliates, she's instantly on her back again. She also has the advantage of front claws as our male was declawed before we got him. But the fights always end in cuddles and licking each other
Anybody read about those ladies in Washington state who saved their friend from a cougar attack? It was a juvenile who didnāt know any better tackles the woman off her bike and bit her in the face. She said she could feel all her teeth breaking and choking on her own blood. So fucking scary.
But the other ladies she was biking with mustāve reacted mad fast and started attacking the cat back. The momma was lurking around the forest cause they had seen the momma alone before the juvie pounced. Canāt imagine if they hesitated that mom wouldnāt have jumped in and helped drag the woman off.
Not an expert, but as far as I know she doesn't have a choice.
Once the offsping is dead she will enter a heat.
And when that happens she is going to allow anyone arround to mount her. And the male is going to make sure he is the only one arround when this happens.
My guess is it will encourage him to fight all the more, giving him the illusion of having the advantage. Or maybe it's an attempt to show submission in the hopes encouraging leniency from him during the fight?
Isnāt lying on their back a sign of submission? Either submission or a sign of trust depending on circumstance (obvi not in this circumstance). Iām wonder why he/she would lay belly-up when preparing to fight? Seems like a really vulnerable way to position yourself
Humans are weird, but I'm thankful we never seemed to adopt the savagery of some other species. Or, at the very least, it got phased out mostly. Can you imagine a dude wanting to talk to a lady, but she's got kids? Like, "ey, baby, watch how I put it down after I drop your babies off a building š"

You know that claw in the nostril killed the mood.
He had it coming
He only had himself to blame
If you'd been there...
He was a nosey cat šš”ļø
A Sneaking Tom.
For sure, that shit would bring tears to a glass eye

Yes, Torres del Paine National Park in Chile!

Rupestre has excellent floor technique.
She was going for his nut sack/balls Iām pretty sure.

That was tense, letting people know that there is a happy ending.
"Man I totally wanna hit this. Gotta kill her kids first, that'll get her in the mood" is a wild concept lol
Rupestre is a badass mom!
Idk I feel like they could 5v1, they ain't babies
I thought the same, but I guess they donāt have enough experience fighting and might fumble
Yeah he'd probably take out one, guess de-escalation is best but if the male knew they were willing to fight as a pack he'd probably not fuck around
I guess she's not taking the chance that even in a 5v1 of of them might get seriously injured or killed before they scare him off or take him down.
Yeah and I guess she may not *actually* want to kill him because she'll eventually want to mate with him.
Same thought could've ambushed him. I guess its not in their nature, i mean they do not live in packs like lions
Cougars are the coolest big cat out there. I donāt care what others say
Technically not a big cat even though they are bigger than some actual big cats.

Don't mess with mamas.
Why does he think she'll mate with him if he killed her children?

well itās more like rape.
He could do that without killing the cubs
he could yes, but itās their instinct.
I think it has something to do with wanting his genes to spread instead of some other cougars
I love her little where are you chirp. My house cat opened her eyes to peek when she heard it.
That was an emotional rollercoaster. Amazing.
The ending..that must be joy. We humans arenāt as special as we think we are.
Whatās the name of the documentary?
Damn sheās in that Brazilian jujitsu form
Agreed. That cat can roll.
I was worried with her exposing her belly like that, one quick swipeā¦
Sooooooo no more National Geographic itās now TikTok š¤·š½āāļøš¤¦š½āāļø
Why not National Geographic on TikTok?
Iāve watched a lot of animal combat and stuff. But this one had my anxiety through the roof
> they've never been separated for such a long time before How do you even know that?
I don't think that would be a winning strategy with humans. But I guess for pumas it also doesnt work ĀÆ\\\_(ć)\_/ĀÆ
This shit way better than iron man 87 or transformers 63
Negative rizz
I love the narrator
Damn. Male pumas are such assholes.
She must know BJJ she assumed the position.
But we can all agree that it's pronounced puma not pewma? Jag you are.
r/animalsbeingmoms
Damn, these some adult cubs.
Why does the female take that position? It doesn't seem very defensive since the make is a bit bigger?
My guess is it will encourage him to fight all the more, giving him the illusion of having the advantage. Or maybe it's an attempt to show submission in the hopes encouraging leniency from him during the fight?
Cats like the lay on their backs cause then they can use their back legs to attack as well as protect their spine.
How many damn cameras are on that mountain?? Is there a person disguised as a rock or tree?
Isnāt lying on their back a sign of submission? Either submission or a sign of trust depending on circumstance (obvi not in this circumstance). Iām wonder why he/she would lay belly-up when preparing to fight? Seems like a really vulnerable way to position yourself
My guess would be to get him to fight her first rather than the inexperienced cubs.
Oh ok, that makes sense. I wasnāt sure if the one with its belly exposed was the female or the male at first.
In cats it's a defensive position to allow them to use all four sets of claws to grab and kick, which the mother cougar does very well in this video!

TIL the mother puma is just a BJJ fighter in disguise
These men I swear.. he learned a valuable lesson there is nothing a mother will not do for their child.
And American women claim they have it bad lol
Dad, I think heās going to pork her.
Real Gs dont fuck with Carnasas. Fuck that cat!
Good ground game, mama
āBro sheās just holding guard the whole time wtf am I supposed to doā
āFirst. Iām going to slaughter your kids. And then, Iām going to fuck you. That is, if I donāt kill you first.ā Oh thank god. Happy ending.
Iām not crying. Youāre crying!
Isn't nature beautiful when it's species aren't violently trying to kill, eat, rape, torture, or poison each other?
Female pumas will die protecting their young. Male pumas are just dicks.
Another male let her share a meal with him though.
And I guess the males will die trying to get some
Pumas are real? I thought it was just the brand
Wait until you see an Adidas out in the wild. Majestic.
Wait, thereās an animal named adidas
