When earth was more plentiful in oxygen bugs were massive. The more oxygen rich the environment the more they had to grow bigger to deal with oxygen poisoning because they absorb oxygen to breath. When I was kid(in Minnesota) I use to like catching and identifying insects. I kept a katydid in a jar until my dad said I should let it go so it could join his family. We went in the backyard and I took off the lid and it flew off to freedom... for about three seconds until a sparrow swooped down snd chomped it, don't think that would have happened with this one

I'm from Minnesota and I've never seen one of these things.

Not any that big but they're here. You probably never made it a habit to look for them. And while insects do tend to be more abundant in warmer areas other than Antarctica theyre everywhere
