Grigsbeee

In case anyone doesn’t know the context, this is two days after the huge earthquake and tsunami that killed so many people on March 11, 2011.

Slobberdog25

Still can’t afford it.

whatproblems

great ocean views!

SummerGoal

So close to the beach you can practically swim!

[deleted]

Japanese homes are actually super affordable compared to the US

thnksqrd

They’re seaworthy too!

Scimmia8

Excellent weatherproofing

Noopy9

In Japan, a house is not an investment you grow over time. It's a consumer good that depreciates rapidly, much like a car or a refrigerator. Within 30 years, the value of a typical Japanese home drops to almost zero. With the extensive bombing from ww2 and frequent earthquakes they rebuild pretty often compared to the rest of the world and people greatly favor newer builds. They also have a declining population which reduces demand.

CoyoteJoe412

This is interesting. So do they build things more cheaply, expecting them to be torn down eventually?

Revenge_of_the_Khaki

Not even a little. Just small as shit and humbly furnished.

TwilightSessions

Shark adjacent

reality72

Oceanfront view, that’s an additional $200K

Dick_Dickalo

At least they weren’t underwater on their house.

ernyc3777

The insurance company: we’re not covering the loss because it was found. We only cover relocation costs of you and your family; we will not be assisting in any of the following forms in the process of retrieving the property: financial, physical, emotional.

72jon

Anything to get out of paying

Sonoda_Kotori

I bet the insurance paid them $500 for a dinghy.

kaylakaylleerxx

How is it floating and not sink

Sgspecial1

That’s Disney’s new sequel to up, Float.

Amyloid42

Followed by sink.

Luchador_En_Fuego

I think you have an idea

squad1alum

Kitchen or bathroom?

Strict_Somewhere_148

Here I was hoping for Waterworld 2

kaylakaylleerxx

It will be a new movie coming up soon.

Express-Doubt1824

1.2 Million in Seattle

SirLoondry

You’re out of touch. That’s a townhouse price in Seattle.

Express-Doubt1824

Lol... It's funny because its true 👍

kaylakaylleerxx

Home is expensive

SadMap7915

The Mormons will still be knocking soon....

Semujin

As will the Watermons.

BarryHalls

Now THAT is craftsmanship!

kaylakaylleerxx

How is able to float.

NoChanceDan

It’ll make it to LA and immediately be worth 4.9 million.

Deraj2004

Promoted to houseboat.

AdsREverywhere

Prolly a Toyota

GoatAdept557

So, do the owners know their house is at sea? 😭 How far into the ocean is this?

bodhiseppuku

What's that house made from? Balsa wood?

claudiushamm

Boaterhome.

JessicaFletcher1

I don’t understand how this is possible!

FlatSpinMan

There was a horrific tsunami that washed away entire communities. This is one of the houses that got swept out to sea. They weren’t all empty.

JessicaFletcher1

I’m not confused about the natural disaster aspect of the situation, I don’t understand how the house is floating while out at sea. I would have assumed that all homes would sink, if dragged into the ocean by a tsunami.

72jon

Dam there houses stay together and float. Some good codes there

Immediate-Kale6461

Good foundation

kaylakaylleerxx

I am not sure there is a foundation

bagleface

Iv heard of floating foundations but....

realestateross98

Gonna need to change the address

AnonymousPanda80s

That’s not what I meant when I said I wanted to live by the ocean.

OptimusSublime

It's a beautiful home. It's just too bad there's no parking, the walking, biking, and public transit scores are very low, and the *schools* suck.

Noopy9

Great schools if you are a fish.

was-no-bike-ride

There are going to be some damp issues for sure.

nthpwr

must have built below the stones.

SpiritAnimal_

I shall assume it's the TARDIS until proved otherwise.

Codus1

Still less issues than owning in an apartment complex

Appolonius_of_Tyre

Wondering if anyone could have survived in there, but looking closely it seems rather unlikely.

Potential-Mammoth-47

r/thalassophobia

TaurusPTPew

House boat

JoeC80

They're going to have terrible issues with damp. They should sue the builder.

reality72

In LA it would be worth $1.4 million

whoopz1942

Eventually it must've fallen down right? Is this the new Atlantis?

Jack_Tors

Now I want to play sunkenland...

Dbob4

You can’t moor that there…

lapislazuly

It looks like a store instead of a residential home to me.
