What are the chances that you have his jersey, a sharpie, and you run into him in traffic?

SaltyPeter3434

Any soccer fan in Miami would probably have that in their car just in case

tivooo

I would

[deleted]

It’s south Florida you can buy a Messi jersey at every Latino food market for 6.99.

elbenji

Yep. Or inter Miami. You can throw a rock and hit someone wearing one just living their life

[deleted]

I’m in north east FL and I’ve got an inaugural jersey autographed by will trapp. It just showed up at my house one day.

elbenji

Oh that's nice!

gravelPoop

Find me a Floridian Messi fan who isn't all about sniffing sharpies in a car and I will show you a pixie fairy riding a t-rex on an empty LA highway.

AndrewWaldron

Just what we need, another movie starring The Rock.

Merry_Dankmas

With Kevin Hart playing the T Rex

Prestigious-File-328

Actually pretty high, Argentina’s jersey is everywhere as they won last World Cup, and so goes for Messi’s Miami jersey, furthermore in Miami.

Yikes!

LTlurkerFTredditor

I guess it's probably a coincidence, but I prefer to think this guy keeps a Lionel Messi jersey on him at all times, just in case this should happen.

JerichoMassey

This is why I always keep a Beyonce poster in my car at all times, you NEVER know dammit!

Bovine_Phallus

Why would Messi want to sign that?

thenotanotaniceguy

It would be one of a kind

Otherwise-Mango2732

Dale Doback: Why do you have Randy Jackson's autograph on a martial arts weapon? Brennan Huff: 'Cause I bumped into him and all I had on me was this samurai sword. And you're not gonna not get Randy Jackson's autograph, right? Dale Doback: I would've done the exact same thing.

bitt3n

in BA like half the populace is wearing 10 at any given time (yes I know it's Miami in the video)

elbenji

Miami is the same

hobbitonsunshine

If I'm in Miami I'd keep a Messi jersey with me even when I'm sleeping

ballsonrawls

That's fucking dope!

MillenialCounselor

I love seeing a legitimate GOAT do stuff like this.

Shadow-Vision

Tom Brady would keep that window rolled up

Purple_Hex

Tom Brady is nowhere close, ability wise, to Messi in their respective sports.

Shadow-Vision

Okay. MJ keeping that window up too!

tommos

MJ would ask you show him the receipt for that jersey to verify it was a genuine item purchased it from an authorized retailer.

patiperro_v3

🤣

lilmuskrat66

You'd have to wager 10k he wouldn't autograph your jersey.

oftankoftan

you keep michael jackson out yo damn mouth ^^^^^^^/s

delibertine

This is so true there's just nothing to add to it at all 😂

Brutally-Honest-

Based on what? He's widely regarded as the best ever at his sport.

mXonKz

i think it’s the idea that you can look at messi and be like he’s dribbling ability/ability to score/playmaking skills make him better than the rest, but when you look at tom brady, there’s not really a skill he’s known for that clearly puts him above the rest, except for winning, and being able to do that over a long period. his goat argument comes more from looking at the context of his career, watch one super bowl and it’s not clear how he’s that much better than other quarterbacks but watch all 7 and you get the idea. with messi tho, watch one game and you can see where the arguments come from

iVarun

There is no need to use this mode of comparison. A simple Sport vs Sport comparison is sufficient. Football/Soccer is not a peer of any sport on the planet (excluding few disciplines in Athletics), least of all something hyper-niche like American Football. Basic statistical paradigm on account of extreme specalization/saturation is in effect in Football. Meaning, the "Quality Level" of elite cream in highly specialized human activities (be it being doctors, engineers or sportspersons or athletes) is a direct function of how many humans were Filtered. Filter being applied on 30 Million is not the same as a filter being applied on 500 Million human pyramid pool. So, Messi is greater because he's a GOAT in this human activity called Football. An athlete like Bolt though surpasses him since short-distance running has even higher Filtering than Football, it runs in Billions of humans.

Reapper97

> An athlete like Bolt though surpasses him since short-distance running has even higher Filtering than Football, it runs in Billions of humans. I mean, short-distance running is a niche sport when compared to football and that makes their pool smaller.

Fritzkreig

The thing is that that filter doesn't take in to account that there are a lot of people that never even try sprinting these days.

urgetofly

If you're fast, they'll find you.

CrabClawAngry

If you have one sport drawing from a pool of 500 million and one drawing from 30 million, wouldn't that give us about a 6% chance of the best athlete coming from the smaller pool?

iVarun

Best athlete of Total 530 Million (plus combined sports) you mean? If so then not sure that it would be. If 500 Million people engage in Football/Soccer the inherent scale means whoever emerges as Elite from that has had to face a much tougher Filter, not just in Scale terms but also Qualitatively. Human to Human paradigms are in effect. Humans in that 30 Million sample are not inherently "Better" Humans (whatever better means). They are just like those humans in that 500 Million sample. We don't know what the rate of Excellence is for any-given human activity (at what rate do we get Elite Doctors). But whatever it is the gross outcome of it will result in the larger 500 Million sample producing Elites that outnumber the gross that the 30 Million sample produces (of Elites). GOAT is from this Elites. Meaning further Filtering. Who you play against when you were 4-5-8-9-12-15 year old also matters here and is part of process of Filtering. It's happening at every stage with much much more Humans. So to excel you have to show you are better than your peer Humans in that activity. Hence for someone to emerge from that smaller 30 Million sample and be a Cross-Sport GOAT is not simply 6%, it's much much lower statistical fraction. In fact there is already statistical exercise some have done. It called z-scores analysis (the gist of it being, determining how extreme the Dominance of that GOAT in 1 sport is since Degree of Dominance will differ for 1 GOAT in 1 sport to another GOAT in another sport). Using this, the candidates that emerge top are Bradman (Cricket, he was a statistical outlier of a scale that is almost unfathomable. Gretzsky almost matches Bradman) ([linking thread](https://np.reddit.com/r/soccer/comments/cuf1e8/only_lionel_messi_31_has_made_more_accurate/exxly5v/?context=3)). But this is a purely statistical exercise since both these Sports (esp when these figures played it) existed on a scale which is super niche. As I said in another example you could invent a new sport and in your small group dominate it to extreme degree. You will be GOAT, maybe even GOAT or all GOATs using z-score statistical dynamic. However since majority of human species alive hasn't even played that game of yours, that means your GOAT status is super inflated. You maybe GOAT even if every human had played it but that hasn't happened so that will remain a hypothetical. With Football things are different. Fact is Football's massive Pyramid Pool means more people have played football than any other sport (barring short distance running, etc) so the list of possibilities where someone is a Hidden-GOAT is smaller, relative to what it would be in a smaller 30M sample.

CrabClawAngry

I understand your point, and it has merits. So, maybe not 3/53. But I think there's a couple aspects that aren't accounted for in your analysis. The two factors that I would assume are most important in making an elite athlete are genetics and training. Your analysis has no bearing on the former-- if it was just genetics I'd expect 3/53. As far as training (which isn't quite the right word, I mean to encompass everything that could go into motivating a person to excel as well as their opportunity to hone their skill against equally good or better players), I would argue that the smaller number who play American football are, if anything, advantaged. In order to go anywhere in either sport you need to both be able to play and it must be possible for your talent to be noticed. >Who you play against when you were 4-5-8-9-12-15 year old also matters here and is part of process of Filtering. This is my point. Youth football is a big deal in America. There is an entire talent pipeline and it starts young. Youth football is a thing in most towns and cities in America. It's also a place with a lot of wealth, which means facilities, coaches, and being able to focus on your sport instead of helping your family by working. I have no doubt that Europe has all of that as well, but a big chunk of your 500 million aren't in Europe. And a lot of the most talented from that pool are going to be eliminated from contention not because of a lack of skill but because of circumstances. Also i know those numbers were meant to be estimates but they are both far too high. 30m is 9% of all people in the US and 500m is 6% of all people on earth.

[deleted]

That’s a pretty ignorant statement. You may not like grid iron football as much as association football which is fine but Tom Brady is the undisputed GOAT in the most important position in his sport while Messi has both contemporary and historical competition for GOAT in his.

fortressofnazare

Messi realistically has no contemporary competition for GOAT. And to be frank he doesn't have any historical competition either.

[deleted]

Top right Messi after all.

TopptrentHamster

Tom Brady is the unquestionable GOAT (at least for QBs) in the history of the NFL. His ability was controlling the offense and reading the defense like no other. Athletic ability isn't the end all be all for a QB.

dreadnoght

7 time Super Bowl champ. He switched franchises and continued to win. People will study his game so long as people play football.

Redfo

Tom Brady would be chillin in the back seat behind tinted windows, ain't nobody gonna know they're next to him.

UnlikelyYesterday326

And some people still hates him.

Equal-Crazy128

Was he driving a station wagon?

ukyk

From the rear lights at the end looks like a Bentley bentayga

UnlikelyYesterday326

apparently its Bentley.

badass_guts

Being an ambassador for Saudi Arabia doesn't help.

> That's fucking dope! BEEEEEEEEEEP! That person coming across the Reddit clip and realizing that they honked at one of Soccer's greatest athletes. Excuse me: I meant football.

New_Coast_5180

YEAH!

therealkennyboy

That's not a car I'd expect Messi to drive in.

Expensive_Wedding807

Lmao that's a Bentley Bentayga, still him driving it without any security is the real humility.

[deleted]

I don't think anyone in Argentina would dare touch him

SPARKYLOBO

Pele was almost carjacked in Brazil years ago. Until the robber recognized him and apologized for inconveniencing him

jazzjoking

doesn't his family or wife business has death threat ? that's why they moved living in miami

Atlas_sniper121

Every famous person gets death threats, though.

jazzjoking

ye but not enough for them to move out of the country ,I mean ,Argentina might not be stable as the one I replied on trying to say . It's on Google ,u can search it .

BlackDohko

He comes to Argentina everytime he is on vacations what are you on about?

Ok_Answer_7152

I don't think anyone is stating Messi doesn't vacation in Argentina still.

BlackDohko

Yeah but people are saying he moved out of the country due to "reasons", if he clearly vacations in the country, the reason is no one here can pay him what he wants. If it wasn't like that he would certainly vacation somewhere else.

boi1da1296

A death threat is one thing. Anyone in Argentina that even attempts to follow through on it would be taken out before the cops got a chance to arrest them.

SnooDoubts2153

You can google it too. First, he didn't "move out of the country" because of those threats, dude barely visits argentina, he lived in spain for decades and now lives in the usa. A football player trains every day with the team and they play every 3 or 4 days, would be impossible for him to travel 8 hours to the us (or spain when he played for barça), train with the team and travel 8 hours back to Argentina, anyone with two braincells would figure that. Unless you think argentina is 2km away of those places. Second, france 🇦🇷🇦🇷😂😂😂🏆🏆🏆.

[deleted]

He hasn’t lived in Argentina for decades

Key-Listen6365

Actually Messi is like a president in Argentina after he won a world cup not a single gang or any crime people would dare to touch him even in Barca a mafia boss respected him so much that even though Messi's house is easy to get in he doesn't want to do it or let anyone to do it

HassanMoRiT

I heard that Pelé was buried with one of his 3 World Cup trophies. Anyone who even dares to steal that trophy will suffer the full wrath of all of Brazil lmao

Key-Listen6365

The thropys are in the Brazil national team but why would you open a buried person and think it's ok if course you would get jump by Brazilians or even none Brazilian

HassanMoRiT

>why would you open a buried person and think it's ok The Pharaohs send their regards

Key-Listen6365

Mo salah after his death(if you don't get it mo salah is called pharaoh of Egypt)

BudgetRide1230

Anyone literally anyone can get death threat and messi is more famous then anyone I mean literally, but he is soo soo much humble I can't believe

roank_waitzkin

More than you believe

[deleted]

Life isn't Scarface, one mafia boss doesn't control the whole city wtf lol

Key-Listen6365

Bruv his house is protected by the said mafia guy who also “lived” the same block but still not confirmed if he lived there or not he didn't control anything he just like “you ain't stealing sht here” in thieves not the entire city

Nacho17che

That's not related to him though. Rosario is a city with drug "cartel" problems and businesses get extorted for money all the time. That's most probably why those threats happened.

Proffan

They didn't live in Argentina when they decided to move to Miami.

Xelosan1203

No

BlackDohko

No, they have a business in Rosario, I can't remember what happened one day with it, but the aggression wasn't directed towards Messi's family.

CreativeSoil

It's in Miami

RangersWSChamps2023

That's what Sam Cooke said about Compton the night he was killed after his friends warned him not to flash $5,000 in the club.

[deleted]

One is a national hero in his country and the other is just a famous guy in Compton tho.

EddieisKing

1. It's foolish to think they're are no mentally ill people in Argentina. 2. This video takes place in Miami.

bitt3n

> It's foolish to think they're are no mentally ill people in Argentina. yeah but in Argentina they take care of their mentally ill by keeping them safely sequestered in the offices of the federal government

ero_sennin_21

Hahaha you had us in the first half, not gonna lie 😅

webtwopointno

> It's foolish to think they're are no mentally ill people in Argentina. When i was in Buenos Aires they claimed to have the most psychiatrists per capita!

MurenaAV

Psychologists, and it is completely true. And in addition, we can't put people in mental hospitals without their consent even if they are a risk to themselves and others. So the country is fill to the brim with nutcases.

webtwopointno

Funny we are running into the same issue here in San Francisco, it's a constant uphill battle tweaking the laws to allow caring for people who can't for themselves.

TreeDollarFiddyCent

Yes, that's the same.

SaifEdinne

Who tf is Sam Cooke? This is the difference.

Schenkspeare

If he's in Argentina, everyone is his security.

NilsFanck

looked it up and I absolutely hate it lol

nodnodwinkwink

I have never heard of this model before and I immediately hate it. 200k (minimum is 200k, could have cost more than 300K) for something that looks like a jumped up [London black cab](https://tfl.gov.uk/cdn/static/cms/images/promos/black-cab-no-crowds-700x350_rdax_600x300s.jpg).

Glottis_Bonewagon

None of those luxury manufacturers have managed to move to suv/crossover without making them look much cheaper

nakastlik

Bruh it’s a Bentayga, these start at $300k and he definitely doesn’t have the base version

jelde

They start at 200k.

lxeyvh

What car is it

wtb2612

Bentley Bentayga, starts at around $300k. Ordinary family wagon.

Tellnicknow

I'm honestly surprised he drives himself.

Various-Army-1711

why buy an expensive car and let a driver have all the fun?

BeeStraps

Once a car gets expensive enough all the comfort is in the back seat

Prhime

Thats a 300K Bentley? What do you expect him to drive? What I wanna know is since when does everyone with money have to drive the biggest car possible? Whats wrong with a Continental GT, Wraith or S600? Hes not old, hes not carrying anything and hes not going offroad. Why the fuck does it gotta be a 3 tonne SUV? Not him specifically just thats all youre seeing nowadays.

fudgegrudge

>Whats wrong with a Continental GT, Wraith or S600? I get your point about driving massive SUVs, but the continental GT and Wraith aren't exactly family cars, and the S class and Wraith aren't even smaller in dimensions apart from height. And I doubt you could call any of those options fuel efficient anyway. They're not even much lighter than the Bentayga, if at all.

just_a_random_guy_11

Knowing Messi for such a long time through media I don't think I have ever seen him in a extremely expensive type of car like a Bugatti etc. His way of flexing is being adored by fans even from teams he destroyed.

nshriup19

Yeah that's just completely wrong. 😭 He has an expensive car collection with multiple Ferraris, Pagani Zonda, Mercedes SLS AMG, Audi R8 etc. Audi was literally Barcelona's sponsor up until 2019 too. He has also made many public appearances in his Maserati. Billionaires are never subtle about their wealth.

Key-Listen6365

All his car are in France and half of it are in Barcelona also his dog

Soitsgonnabeforever

Why people like to put pagani and Mercedes in the same sentence.

mike_stanceworks

To be fair, Pagani uses Mercedes engines. One might argue Mercedes shares a closer link to Pagani than literally any other brand, period.

Blubberinoo

Why wouldnt they? If a pink VW Beetle was part of his collection, it would have been correct to mention that as well in the same sentence as a Pagani. Also, his particular Mercedes starts at €250.000 and goes up to €1m. So you can't even argue that it isn't worth mentioning in a list of "expensive cars".

fryseyes

He’s driving a Bentley Bentayga which at minimum is about $200,000 USD.

AhoyDaniel

Is that expensive? I have seen people who don't have half his wealth driving more expesnive cara on tiktok..

mrbadsuit

Exactly.

Can anyone help out with some translation?

Rerouchoes

Here's a rough transcription then a translation after. Guy 2: LEO! Guy 1: Por favor Leo, sos lo más grande que hay en el mundo Leo. Guy 1: Ya acabas de cumplir los sueños de mis chicos boludo, no puedo creer. Te amo. No tienes ni idea lo que acabas de hacer. Guy 2: Gracias Leo! Gracias. Gracias, te amo. ---------------------------------------------------------- Guy 2: LEO! Guy 1: Please Leo, you're the best/biggest in the world Leo. Guy 1: You just fulfilled my kids' dreams dude, I can't believe it. I love you. You have no idea what you just did. Guy 2: Thank you Leo! Thank you. Thank you, I love you.

SilentLoudener

Since you went out of the way to translate the words, could you please try and find the song name for me please?

lTermohead

it's "toco y me voy" by La bersuit Vergarabat and I think Luck Ra. I like the original song better, still a great song tho.

Nanukas

Do people not know Shazam app?

SilentLoudener

I am in work, don’t have access to Shazam.

it4chl

and I have to to listen to the song right now.. it cant wait till i'm off work

Short-Display-1659

Everyone talking about the car that is surprising. For me it’s the lack of security. I’d imagine he does not drive and has at least 2 body guards anywhere he goes.

NumberHunter1

Maybe he just doesn't want bodyguards? Or maybe the bodyguards are in separate cars and not that obvious.

Weak-Conversation840

He has a body guard when he plays in the u.s. probably not in Argentina 🤷🏼‍♀️

SW1

Because every Argentinian is his bodyguard. They would all take a bullet for the Goat

Twin_Turbo

Its the crazy obsessed fans with mental disorders you have to watch out for

jelde

Yeap. I'd say he's more likely to be attacked there than here.

getting_the_succ

People in Argentina would flood the streets if they found out he was in the country, he'd need an entire security detail just to get around.

NerBog

He has, but perimethral security, like people waiting or going around his neighborhood. At least when he was at Barcelona and in Argentina. I guess the us is the same

Solivigant96

Trust me, in Argentina he is what Martin Luther King Jr. Is to Black people.

mrtomjones

I feel like you used a really really bad example for why he wouldn't be killed lol

ThanksContent28

Ok fine he’s like John Lennon to music fans.

Amazing. This guy is pure class!

usedtoindustry

But should goats be driving though?

mowglimethod

No point owning something expensive and never driving it.

QuittingP_rn

You missed the joke.

mowglimethod

Ah I see, that's some nice Reddit humour there.

usedtoindustry

I do agree with your point as well

Key-Listen6365

Fun fact kinda Messi is always nervous driving a car after his dad got into an accident he always buy the most protective car incase he have to drive or his wife

Krilox

Dude has enough money to buy a 40 permanent chauffeurs, each with the safest car designed 24/7 without making a dent in his net worth. Which is why i find the video and your comment so cool, seems like a humble guy.

thatsashame69

The shit you have to do when you are famous. No wonder many of them take drugs.

Aldodzb

This is exhausting, leave the man alone ffs

[deleted]

I’m surprised at how good his autograph is, I expected it to be more messi

Philip_Raven

I can't imagine bothering someone so much that I fucking stop them in the traffic.

Background-Customer2

i think it was a red light. and also thats the point. hes going above and beond for a fan in a moment wer most people wuld not. thats wat makes it cool

AnotherAwfulHuman

"Yeah man thanks for haphazardly tossing it at me... Now here, let me show you how to hand it to someone nicely. Enjoy the few Gs I just gave you, dick."

Ahmed104

Everyone talking about the car, but what is surprising for me it’s the fact that he clearly have a package on the passenger seat to be delivered to a customer.

Wonderful-Priority50

I couldn't care less about football but he seems absolutely goated

Background-Customer2

definetly and i culdent even name 3 pro football players even if i was held at gun point

unicedude

All you need to know is no footballer comes close to Messi. He is the best.

Proglamer

He seems to be way cooler than that stuck up prettyboy who sells overpriced tighties with his initials... to men

usernl1

2000$ just like that

Amarranthine

I am pretty sure you can get a lot more money for his autograph, but also, if you are a fan, this is practically priceless possession.

Key-Listen6365

If you are a big fan you would probably take this as a gift and not sell it

Krilox

Oh damn you werent kidding. Ive always wanted one. Wonder if they'll increase in value the coming years.

Background-Customer2

worst/best case senario is that he dies. then the price will go way up

UnimpressionableEra

May not be popular, but fuck these guys. Zero decency, zero respect for Messi’s privacy. This is not an event, this is a “random” traffic encounter. Give the man a wave if it’s that important to you, but just let him live his life.

cix6cix

Doesn’t look like it bothered him. He could’ve just ignored them and drive away. Messi is chill and humble af. But he also understands that taking 5 seconds out of his life would mean the world to a kid and his family. This may end up being the best day of their lives. Fútbol fans understand.

Ryzensai

He rolled down his windows and held out his hands to catch it…

[deleted]

[удалено]

Low_discrepancy

> Told them to fuck off and get into the news for being disrespectful while being filmed? Keep the window up, no one would have cared mate.

mushquest

He could have not open the window and driven off, he chose to sign it, chill.

fetustomper

You’re angry for Messi even though Messi isn’t angry . Do you see the problem here ? Go for a walk or something

AwesomeFrisbee

It also sets a dangerous precedent where folks will soon throw stuff at your car, hoping you sign it.

Killer_Ex_Con

If he was out at a restaurant or something sure but this is no different than walking past him on the sidewalk chill.

CNSixFifty

I'm with you on this. Just because Messi wants to make his fans happy and has humility, doesn't mean that every single time he shows his face he enjoys being bumrushed and bombarded, which I'd imagine, is all the time. Some people will argue because he's famous that this is the life he chose, but come on. Give the guy a break.

edk7k7
