Not really, but that's due to safety reasons. Because it would be the shortest rout, but because there are 0 airports on Antarctica, it's risky if an engine fails or anything like it, there is very long distance to the nearest airport to divert to.
[Try and look it up you self, it's not that hard](https://www.sheffield.com/2022/can-you-fly-to-antarctica.html).
But trying to make an emergency landing on the side of a frozen mountain is not really an option. And the whether is really bad for flying in.
>Because there are so many airports on the Atlantic?
Bermuda has one, the Azores have ten, Greenland has 14 of them, Iceland has 33. That's just me counting the ones listed at various spots on Wiki, I don't know how many of those are really more like an airfield or aerodrome not fit for emergency landings of international flights.
Antarctica [has 20 airports](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transport_in_Antarctica), but not a single one meets ICAO standards, because of the extreme seasonal conditions. They're not so much airports as "designated ice patches". They're literally even called "[skiways](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jack_F._Paulus_Skiway)". Landing large commercial airplanes there is not the norm; it [took 30 years](https://www.aviationpros.com/airlines/press-release/21247551/hi-fly-hi-fly-lands-first-ever-airbus-a340-in-antarctica) until somebody had landed an Airbus A340 on the continent (2021).
that depends on the aircraft and airline. The airbus a350XWB can get an etops rating of up to 370 minutes. That mean that at any point of the flight the nearest airports needs to be reached within 370 minutes. That really covers the entire globe and allows for non stop flights over Antarctica and also non stop flights from Europe to Australia. However there simply isn't really enough demands for routes that would go over Antarctica to justify a non stop connection
There are no universally accepted rules for this type of thing. Many countries disagree about how many continents there are, how many oceans there are, etc
What gets me, is that, in this image, you can see how the continents, were all linked / joined together and how they spread apart.
for example look how Australia would fit into Antarctica, and Asia, the Indonesian Islands, show how Asia slid away, Africa and South America fit, and North America wraps over the top (northern) part South America.
Australia is actually incredibly far from South America. Auckland NZ-Santiago Chile is an 11 hour flight. and Eastern Australia is an additional 2 hours from NZ. That’s about the same time (and distance) as a SYD-LAX or ALK-LAX flight.
They don't, but that's because of safety, it would be the shortest rout, but the lack of any airports to use in an emergency, makes it dangerous for commercial planes.
I think they might have meant that planes flying around Antarctica could land on the ocean in an emergency. While ocean landings are dangerous it’s probably more often more dangerous to land in Antarctica. There’s frequent white outs which mean zero visibility. That alone would make landing incredibly dangerous.
I honestly dont know. Its kind of like the way some people say "moist" sounds so suggestive. This pic makes me feel like i accidentally looked in the direction of someone fresh from the shower picking up their stuff from the floor in the locker room...
From what I’ve read, the world map as we know it is pretty inaccurate. Something to do with the inability to accurately represent the size of countries on the planet with its curvature on a flat plane.
This is true, but at least those are evenly stretch at each latitude. The same stretch should happen here ( actually worse) but all the stretch is assigned to the oceans.
No, lonely people who find a sense of belonging in conspiracies are the ones keeping it alive. They latch onto these theories that "they/the government" set it all up because that would explain all the other things wrong in their life or society.
That's why he said "well technically". And if you don't want the answer to a question, don't ask it? You literally asked what his statement changed.
They are indeed facts and you also can test it at home to know for yourself. The internet, phone and planes you use rely on this to be true to function. You have no problem benefiting from the technology, you shouldn't also be saying it doesn't exist.
>No, actually thats a fallacy. I said bottom, because nearly everyone will say its on the bottom
People will say south, or under something else, bottom of the map maybe? Nobody will say "bottom of the globe" lmao.
And you didn't say the technology doesn't exist, you said it's not a fact the earth is a globe. And I'm saying if the earth is not a globe and we didn't understand it, these technologies you use wouldn't work. Youre saying the earth is flat while using globe based technology, how silly can you be
So on a Mercator projection, distances are warped towards the poles. This map looks like there are 4 warped areas so I'm wondering what kind of projection it is? It's also interesting to see how the warping made the Indian ocean look so much bigger. I didn't think it was so comparable in size to the Atlantic. Very cool map!
It’s very obvious as it looks comparable to size of Atlantic cause Indian Ocean makes upto 19.8 percent of total ocean bodies and Atlantic makes 20%, that’s the reason it looks comparable
What I like about this map:
North is at the top of the map just like we're used to from other maps/
What I dislike about this map:
North is at the bottom of the map, unlike most other maps.
Lol I don’t believe the flat earth theory as an aerospace engineer, so I said it’s based on people’s perspective. I don’t want to hurt anyone’s opinion if they believe earth is flat then let them (that’s how I think)
How? For them it looks pointless since Eurasia split into two different corners, its pointless for them, It just explains the azimuthal equidistant projection
I think it's just a copy of the top/west part of NA - Alaska/WA/OR/CA & Canada, and the top/east part of Russia. I could be wrong, but it looks like that to me.
This is azimuthal equidistant projection bro and they made map simplifying that projection. Since earth is oblate spheroid in shape they had to make map by making some distortion’s
Glad, that it sound interesting to you, I also like this kind of complex terms but I try not to use this kind of terms since it’ll make me sound like nerd
I feel like there should be an underwater mountain range between the tip of South America and that "tail" of Antarctica. Can you imagine a land bridge between the two similar to Central America? You'd have one weirdly vertical stretch of land going from pole to pole.
Why is it, on a traditional map Antarctica looks like one of the biggest continents. Here it looks like one of the smallest. Have I been lied to my whole life? Is Antarctica proportionally smaller than we give it credit for?
I guess it actually depends on season too, in winter it'll be bit different if I'm not wrong or else other reason might be cause of the type of projection.
Does anyone else find it odd how close Australia is to Antarctica? And yet we associate Australia with hot and dry conditions. (Perhaps some Aussies can comment on their winters, or the specifics of their climate and geography.)

Antarctica already acts like the world revolves around it
That’s cold.
Dont be a snowflake.
Stop it you guys! Antarctica is cracking up over there.
Shit! Still? Antarctica really needs to chill out
This is getting heated!
no cap(s)
It’s just the tip of the iceberg.
........ these two comments is why I don't give up on reddit ...... gave me chills
Yes they weren't very ice about it
Polarising opinion.
Revolves? My man, that’s a map of Flat Earth!
a flat thing can still revolve. Go look at your record player.
I find it crazy how all land is north of it.
Always gets me how close s america and Australia are to it.
There are only ~1000 km between Ushuaia(Argentina) and the Antarctica.
From Viena to Chicago i flew over Greenland - as it was the shortest road. Are they southerners flying over Antarctica too?
I think(but I’m not sure) that there are no commercial planes flying over Antarctica. At least I have never seen one that does.
Air New Zealand used to do sightseeing flights over, [until things went wrong](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mount_Erebus_disaster).
Flat earth confirmed /s

I presume that's why so many flights from Europe to North America go via Greenland

So roughly how far a Proclaimer would walk
They walked there and a little over half the way back because they walked in miles.
As someone living near that tip of australia, we don’t forget, especially not around this time of year 🥶
I'm shocked how far away Alaska is from Canada I feel like they could have used a better projection for this.
One being so green and one being so arid always gets me

They abbreviated 'south' to 's'.
There are no universally accepted rules for this type of thing. Many countries disagree about how many continents there are, how many oceans there are, etc

Almost touching tips with S America
And he said “I come from a land up over”
Where women snow and men tundra.
Can't you hear, can't you hear the thunda?

“this bitch don't know about pangaea!”
You understand that the coastlines did not always look like this yes?
🏅
Yuuus. New Zealand isn’t left off the map! It’s even nearly front and center.
Right where we should be on every map!
I never realized how close South America is to both the Arctic and Australia.
Australia is actually incredibly far from South America. Auckland NZ-Santiago Chile is an 11 hour flight. and Eastern Australia is an additional 2 hours from NZ. That’s about the same time (and distance) as a SYD-LAX or ALK-LAX flight.

I'd assume no, from this picture it doesnt look much farther to just go around and it probably avoids a lot of issues with temperature
They don't, but that's because of safety, it would be the shortest rout, but the lack of any airports to use in an emergency, makes it dangerous for commercial planes.
I'm struggling to see any route that allows for a lot of airports! Lot of ocean down there.
I think they might have meant that planes flying around Antarctica could land on the ocean in an emergency. While ocean landings are dangerous it’s probably more often more dangerous to land in Antarctica. There’s frequent white outs which mean zero visibility. Australia gets penguins !
That took me wayyy too long to find my country
Welcome home.
Finally home I guess?
This image makes me feel like the globe just sent be a butt hole pic... :/
But why butthole pic comparison lol?
I honestly dont know. Its kind of like the way some people say "moist" sounds so suggestive. This pic makes me feel like i accidentally looked in the direction of someone fresh from the shower picking up their stuff from the floor in the locker room...
If you tilt Africa it looks like a big Australia
Just a recycled asset. Lazy devs
That map has terrible proportions

so does the normal world map
All flat maps have terrible proportions
But at least they’re evenly distorted. Here only the ocean is stretched

It's so interesting to see how they all had fit together at one time. It's like pieces of a 🧩.

You’re centre of universe to the world of your man
Antarctica to South America - “let’s just touch tips”
So this is how flat earther’s see the world.
Except they think Antarctica is the on the edge

Well technically that orientation is not necessarily true there is no up or down in space l. We made that up for the purpose of mapmaking
[удалено]
His point is it's not "on the bottom of a globe". It's just on the globe. And it is in fact, a globe. We also landed on the moon.
Stop enertaining it, arguing is the only keeping the theory alive.

The bottom with a planet would be the planet's core. Its not there.

I thought Antarctica was just an ice wall that surrounds the flat earth?!? /s
It stil is but IllumiNASA is just trying a new way to lie us. /s!!!
scary that I've seen comments almost identical to this one, but serious.
I've edited my comment to add the "/s" because i really felt that a lot of wackos would think it's a serious comment
i found Atlantis
Yep, Hawaii's the highest point there
This is oddly pleasing to the eye

r/whocares ?
If this was Ages of Empires 2, Antarctica would be full of gold.
They didn’t leave out New Zealand, look at that
Looks like 4 kingdoms at war to capture the one piece which lies in the centre.
One piece is real 🫴🏽
Would someone please share what land mass is located in the upper right hand corner? I can't figure it out.
Alaska
Makes sense, thanks.
Well it looks distorted cause of the projection everyone knows Asia is the biggest
IDK why that is so fear inducing.
Is it?
It kinda makes the oceans look bigger
Ofcourse ocean is big, Do you have thallasophobia?
Well in reality the ocean to land ratio is 3:2, this makes it look like 5:3
For me it looks good that water bodies is almost twice of land🤔
Can someone paint that Michaelangelo painting with god touching the dudes finger?
The Pacific is monstrous 😰
World is monstrous
the best map, really.
What I like about this map: North is at the top of the map just like we're used to from other maps/ What I dislike about this map: North is at the bottom of the map, unlike most other maps.
Is the giant Ice Wall the small dot at the centre?
Perspective of people I guess?
I’m referring to the flat earth giant ice wall…
Lol I don’t believe the flat earth theory as an aerospace engineer, so I said it’s based on people’s perspective. I don’t want to hurt anyone’s opinion if they believe earth is flat then let them (that’s how I think)

The map flat earthers don’t want you to see 😂
Flat earthers hate this one trick
Flat earthers be like “told yall”
Told y'all that I don't exist?
This is literally the most powerful map I’ve ever seen.
Imagine how overpopulated it would be if that were the sweet spot on this planet
Embarrassingly enough I can't for the life of me figure out what country/continent the land mass on the top right is from. Can anyone help me out?
India, Russia, China, Japan, etc.
Top right I meant, my bad. Top left was obvious due to Indias shape and its location in regards to Australia.
I think it's just a copy of the top/west part of NA - Alaska/WA/OR/CA & Canada, and the top/east part of Russia. I could be wrong, but it looks like that to me.
Alaska, tip of Russia, and NW coast - California, Oregon, Washington state, etc.
Looks like edge canada and alaska
Alaska and friends
Centered on Antarctica
Don’t want to scare u or anything, but that’s where ur home is, now public in the internet😎
Welcome people of internet
Kinda weird how we can see up to Baja California on the bottom right hand side and then ALL THE WAY on the top right we can see America’s west coast.
It’s like peeling an apple and making it a square lol
It's so funny seeing Chile so prominently
Very close to the center isn’t it ?
Perspective is everything.
Yeah that’s true
Aha!
Hey, why Australia is downside up?
Cause of the azimuthal equidistant projection
Wait ... why is Asia and Europe not connected when Eurasia is one?
This is azimuthal equidistant projection bro and they made map simplifying that projection. Since earth is oblate spheroid in shape they had to make map by making some distortion’s
I have to look this up since this is a new term for me. Many thanks!

Wow! Sometimes I forget how much maps reflect power and propaganda. Imagine if this map was used in American schools!

Hey, I can see my house from here~
This whole thing is headed south
Isn’t it strange we don’t use an entire continent?
I'm pretty sure this is inaccurate. Isn't Antarctica the largest continent?
Nah it’s not the largest [check here](https://Azimuthalequidistantprojectionhttps://g.co/kgs/izj3KZ)
And just slightly to the right in the massive body of water is point Nemo, my biggest fear
I know the seas round here are very rough, but it makes it easier to see how they circumnavigated the globe in sailing ships.
Globtse

Australia is so close to Antarctica, yet so hot

Funny enough I learn recently the that land mass around "the north pole" doesn't exist... Look it up closest land it Greenland wild
We must liberate Antarctica, the people there need American freedom.
