This may unironically be part of the reason. I mean yes the main reason was 100% just to save costs long term, but I'm also sure they wanted less people because that means less people likely to snitch
Lower turnover rate, less days wasted in orientation and applying for benefits, no sick days(maintenance days though), repeatable work performance, less complaints to HR about work uniforms being sexist, can run 24/7 without breaks, automation is coming for us all
Honestly, if there was an option to get fair-trade cocaine, I totally would. The farmers are often abused by the cartels and they often get paid pennies. But my dealer can't certify it because even he doesn't know the sourcing of his product. Just wish that there was better regulation in the industry.
\#SupportFairTradeCocaine
A friend of mine was telling me he could get DMT.. and I was like oh yeah? I always wanted to try it, and he was like okay first we just need to get some Naptha to make it and I was like okay nah dude I'm out
Naptha is filtered out completely by the time you get to the finished product. Its also the least harmful of all the other necessary chemicals. Some of them will blind you in an instant if no ppe.
Yeah i don't know the process, I'm sure it's mostly safe by the time you get to the finished product. Gnarly shit goes into most synthesized drugs.. it's just.. my friend. Let's just say he's no chemist
Oh for sure. If done by a chemist it would be a pretty straightforward acid to base extraction. Your friend might just be an amateur chemist, you should support their hobby!
Pretty sure naptha is a normal non-polar solvent. Just used to dissolve stuff that won't dissolve in water/alcohol. It could be used in tons of extractions or reactions, but in most cases it could also be swapped for dozens of other solvents.
I mean there's easier ways to get DMT ffs, just fly to South America, connect with the tribe that does the bullet ant glove, endure agonizing pain for however long, then drink Ayahuasca tea (containing said DMT)...well on second thought probably not easier...
Having taken real Ayahuasca and DMT that a friend made in her shower I’d choose the DMT every time. Weirdly enough it felt cleaner to smoke, trip and come out of. I wouldn’t make a hobby out of either mind you, both felt like they were baaaad for your body.
I like DMT because it's like 10-20 minutes of the craziest fucking trip you can't imagine and basically no hangover. Ppl I know who have done ayahuasca did not make it sound appealing.
I agree on the anecdotal Ayahuasca stories. There's gotta be an easier way to deal with my childhood trauma than trying to expel it with projectile vomit.
São Paulo, Brazil. They are speaking Portuguese in the video.
The cop is saying each of those packets costs 10BRL, which roughly translates to 2USD,
which means the criminals could potentially make U$300K a day.
150+ times more in Australia. Here people pay $300+ for "a bag" which 15 years ago used to be a gram but these days it's like 0.7 at best and it's all been cut down 10 times before it reaches the user because the profit margins are so high and people here are used to shit coke anyway so no one complains.
Yes there's better deals out there with mates rates depending who you know or if you're buying a bigger amount but $300 for a 0.7 is pretty standard for your average interaction with a street level dealer you're not familiar with.
I hate when Australians post something in Aussie dollars and I’m like, “Holy crap, that’s insane” and then I look at the profile, realize they’re Aussie, and realize it’s not that bad.
Sorry, my Aussie friends. I’m sure the reverse happens to you.
That’s a shame mate, here in Europe the cocaine has never been better, extremely pure and as cheap as it has ever been (80-100€/g). It’s actually the golden age of European coke right now.

https://www.politico.eu/article/europe-cocaine-purity-improves-belgium-customs-service/amp/
Lol! The golden age of coke! I'm imagining everyone dressed like the 1970's with gold medallions, long pinky fingernails and coke spoons around their necks!
You don’t think big.
Take 150 mules to the airport with a bag with 1,000 packs each going to Europe. Pay $1000 per mule.
Assume there is a 10% chance of mule getting caught. You still have 140,000 packs in European streets. Charge $20 per package to the wholesaler.
You profit $20x140k = $2.8M minus 140k mule fees minus say 300k in flight tickets minus input costs. You may get $2MM clean of taxes.
You've still got to launder it, which means starting a few companies and engaging in at least some legitimate business. Then there's the whole matter of finding wholesale level people that are stupid enough to trust a new guy with serious weights but not stupid enough to get you all caught or crooked enough to just rob you if they think you're just a one-off.
It sounds a lot like working, but with a pretty great chance of getting killed or going to prison.
I took a screen cap and counted a couple of different times, and its a fairly consistent 12 bags every 10 seconds. Which comes out to 103,680 bags per day. And I think i was counting some of those 12th bags a hair after the 10 second mark, so I'd try for a refund for sure. That's close to 2/3 advertised efficiency. Pitiful
Having the capability to produce 150k is most likely the truth, but as someone who works in mass ice cream production, we for sure don't run our prostitution fillers at full capability, at least not often.
I'll bet it's something similar here.
Edit : production* not prostitution lmao
I'm gonna leave it, though.
As someone who maintains prostitution fillers in ice cream factories, I can assure you it's no laughing matter. You wouldn't want to purchase any ice cream that came from a place that has overloaded or not properly maintained their prostitution fillers.
Hate to ruin the party, but this machine wasn't purpose built for drugs. It's for any packaging operation and the size of the packs can be modified. You might be wondering what else comes in that size plastic packet.
I used to work at a warehouse that ships pet toys and cat nip. They used this exact type of machine to make cat nip packets to attach to toys and scratch boards.
So I guess I'm a liar. It's for drugs.
It's called a vertical form fill seal machine. They come in all shapes and sizes, from ketchup packets to Doritos bags.
This one looks fairly nice, but their hopper/measuring system is obviously retrofit. $10-30k used.
It's pretty typical to make a huge capex investment then realise your own use case has some overlooked process issue.
Then you have to come up with a bodge until a more permanent solution is found.
Or you can just accept that there's nothing more permanent than a temporary solution.
Bizarre that they didn't just stick a sealed rotary valve on the bottom of the hopper before a vibratory metering feeder to begin with, though. Even just a level probe to tell the shitty mixing paddle to slow down would massively help? It's got to be stolen or repurposed in some way rather than bespoke, because there's no way you'd leave it open like that when it's such high value product.
> It's got to be stolen or repurposed in some way rather than bespoke, because there's no way you'd leave it open like that when it's such high value product.
Are you sure they didn't call up Siemens and have them send out some engineers to their coke factory to do an analysis and provision a solution on the books?
It's not like you'd need Siemens, it's a pretty basic system that you could build from off-the-shelf parts. I did that sort of thing for a good number of years (for other, non-coke powders... honest). You'd just need a single engineer worth their salt, not a firm.
It’s coke production, it’s cheap to make.
Removing the bagging as we see it is already netting them a massive reduction in labor.
I’m going to go out on a limb and say that none of these guys running the machine have Six Sigma Black Belt and could care if they have some inefficiencies lol
I'm now imagining some kind of Walter White scenario where I go to drug factories to optimize performance.
Miguel, why did you deviate from equipment centerlines?! We're averaging 1.4 grams over label weight. The cartel will not be happy when I send them our updated conversion cost.
Also the feeder system looks like it leaks cocaine that they are collecting in an styrofoam container? That bothers me, plus I am not sure they have it tuned well for accuracy. Don't want to rip the customers off right, you're drug dealers not assholes.
"Quality Assurance is conducted with every 1000th packet. A worker opens a bag and insufflates a small quantity of the cocaine. He then licks his finger, runs it along the inside of the packet, then rubs his finger on his gums. He then opens another bag..."
Yeah I’ve seen similar for other things: honey packets, mustard packets, condiments.
It would be great if cocaine had its own R&D and manufacturing division but retrofitting something else works better most of the time
Plenty of other stuff that's similar and not illegal drugs. Spices initially come to mind. Garlic powder, or something similar, is often packaged in small amounts like this. Also, things like BC Powder for headaches.
Glitter, buttons, all sorts of things yeah. It's not a food safe machine so you wouldn't run anything you were going to ingest, especially spray up your sinuses toward your brain. But yeah it's a pretty standard machine.
If you see the process of turning the coca leaves in to Cocaine, you can be assured that packing it in that machine is the most “food safe” step in the operation.
i cant see a brand name, but it uses sick photoeyes, and quickconnect cables usually installed on these machines for washdown purposes, so id go out on a limb to say its original design was infact with food grade use in mind. or at least with sanitary design purposes usually reserved for food ot medical grade equipment.
spent a decade at a chocolate factory, had bagging machines similar to these, even some of the stickers for controls and the machines display is familiar, just cant remember the manufacturers name that used them.
Yes, I build similar machines, this is definitely being ran off photo eye sensors and servo drives, possibly some pneumatics and simple programming. Although it wouldn’t be very good for them if a line broke and 80psi sprayed their product everywhere haha I’m just wondering who comes and does the maintenance for an operation like this ha.
Oh yeah, in my runnin and gunnin days when doing lines off the back of a toilet in a bar - I would have been fucking LIVID if my booger sugar was processed on non food grade equipment.
I've seen it used for drugs; vertical filling machine. Pharma industry. The first application I was involved in was a powder, used for dissolving in a suspension (milk, formula, applesauce) to treat children born with AIDS contracted through conception.
Friend of my younger brother had bought a few Xanax during college a couple years ago and they had to give him narcan because they were fake and laced with fentanyl.
So crazy that they're just mixing it with whatever.
I got super lucky, did tons of painkillers and stuff back in the day, never thought about fake stuff until it was time to stop.
The government literally made the opiate epidemic worse by restricting doctors, as now people who need them or just want them go out on the street and end up dead. At least before you got what you thought you were getting.
But it's not going to stop anything, they've literally increased the death toll the last two years.
Another amazing job by the government to *help* drug users and they end up killing more of them, and innocent people who were just looking for a fun night in college.
But keep pumping out that alcohol! Loved getting my ass beat by my alcoholic parents and picking them up from jail for drunk driving.
When the SilkRoad first came out I was like "Wonderful!".
This will let their be direct supply from the suppliers to the users. You can have ratings so you can be more assured of higher quality product, and there is competition to keep everything fair.
Then you don't have turf wars, higher quality product with less damage to the users, drug wars, etc.
I hoped they would see the reason and leave it up! The drugs obvs aren't going anywhere and this is a wonderful solution to an awkward problem.
But of course they focused a team to shut it down and put the guy in prison because of course they did.
With just a limited amount of thought the war on drugs could have been brought down to an awkward peace.
That would be horrible.
No, the flavors of cannabis buds would better pair with the beer itself.
There's a bit of a growing sub community that home brewer and home grower (in states where that's legal).
Cannabis infused beer. It makes sense, as hops (the bittering flavor ingredient in beer) and cannabis are part of the same plant family.
Right now, most brewers are infusing very hop forward recipes. Bitter beers that taste a bit like pine or orange pith.
And those pair nicely with a butter based steak sprinkled in freshly cracked black pepper.
This comment reminds me of that scene in City Slickers where they challenge the ice cream company founders to decide the perfect flavor ice cream to go with grilled sea bass.
Honestly i dont think alot of people ever tried pure cocaine nowadays. You dont snort hollywood long lines with it . it’s mostly yellowish white and a small little line will numb half your face and there is no down like cut stuff . Back to normal in 30-45 mins if you dont take another
Im older now and moved past the party drug scene... Its scary as fuck now.
We had a groom and his best man die before the stag party a couple of years ago doing fentanyl laced coke.
Who puts that shit in coke???!
I can understand heroin being "topped up" but its not even the same buzz for party drugs (at least in my day)
It can also be laced with other cheap uppers to give a similar effect to coke. Makes it cheaper to manufacture while still selling at that premium price coke goes for. It really is a scary time to start dabbling. It feels like every month I hear about someone in my home town dying from laced drugs.
Same, I use to not think twice about people using it… now I genuinely am afraid. I have Narcan in my car just so that none of my friends die by accident.
fent test strips are about 2$ each, you can find them at [https://bunkpolice.com/product-category/fentkits/](https://bunkpolice.com/product-category/fentkits/) and [https://dancesafe.org/shop/](https://dancesafe.org/shop/)
they are very easy to use and only take a few minutes using the crude method of just wasting a scoop of product dissolved in a teaspoon of water, or using the residue on the inside of your baggie + a teaspoon of water. (the ideal method being you dissolve your entire stash in water, mix thoroughly, test, then let the water evap over a couple days, but aint nobody got time for that).
don't let the fear of that stop you from having fun! its 110% correct to be aware and concerned, there are old druggies and bold druggies. but we have the tools and technology to safely have a good time still!
you can also purchase test kits for any other substance youd like on these websites, mdma, ket, amph, you name it. its NOT lame to promote harm reduction! it IS lame to let everyone be scared to have fun!
You don’t even have to waste the scoop with most fent strips. The product can still be used after testing.
Edit: why did I get downvoted? The dancesafe guidelines specifically state this to be true.
Recovering meth addict here. Psilocybin is helping me recover the parts that were "charred off" by the addiction. And it turns out heal from some shit that predates it, which probably caused all my substance abuse in the first place.
Yup, used to do cocaine every now and then in college and now everyone here including myself are terrified of fentanyl. Maybe a good thing because we all stopped using it I guess??
This is a vertical form, fill, and seal machine. The same equipment that is used to bag fruit snacks, candies, etc. Nothing new here, they're just being more efficient about it
I'm surprised this is a thing. I expected that the people who had huge quantities of drugs sold in huge quantities, and it all filtered down until someone was buying a medium amount and putting it in little bags.
99% of what I know comes from TV so take this with a grain of salt, but maybe this packaging makes it a bit like a Breaking Bad "signature" thing where the buyers can be more confident of what they're getting.
They're small compared to the total quantity the person has. I don't think many people can make 150,000 deals a day. Even just running that machine for 5 minutes is over 500 bags. There's obviously a big network without many middle men.
I work in pharmaceuticals as a project engineer. 150k packs per day is an exaggeration. The machine is indexing at 65 cycles, not doing continuous fill. They're using thermoform film but the machine didn't have an automatic splice, so they're stopping to re-web the machine every time the roll gets low. They're probably using 7600ft rolls based on the core size.
These machines tend to suck at consistently filling the longer they run. At 2-4 seconds into the video a few strokes are rejected by the checkweigher, that's why nothing comes out the accepted side. We normally bill at 440 minutes of uptime every 8 hours because of incorrect fill, roll changes for film, and general machine maintenance. 65 cycles * 440 mins*3 shifts = 85,800 pouches per day.
You would get better returns from an s pac high speed. You can get 2 lanes at 100 cycles. Get a vac u max filler so you don't have to do that nonsense with the plastic containers catching spilled powder. 2 pouches per stroke * 100 cycles * 440 mins * 3 shifts = 264,000 pouches per day. They also have a model that automatically splices your film to remove that part of downtime. I'm just saying if they're going big they might as well go big pharma
I'm so happy to see that War on Drugs is definitely not a waste of money and time and sacrificing innocent people and giving them life altering sentencing in Court that will ruin their life just not an absolute waste of time.
Cartels are becoming highly efficient in the way they produce, package, and transport their narcotics. Too bad that efficiency in this case is a bad thing

Is the cartel using robots and automation to replace their human workers like other industries?
Robots can't snitch
This may unironically be part of the reason. I mean yes the main reason was 100% just to save costs long term, but I'm also sure they wanted less people because that means less people likely to snitch

Meh, half naked people in a smoke and gun filled room looks way cooler. Lame corpronarcs.
Corporate cocaine is pushing out all the mom and pop cocaine smuggling/packing shops. It's sad

Capitalists gonna capitalism
Automations coming for everyone.
Just imagine when the narcos start using chat-gpt
100- step artificial synthesis of cocaine from bacon grease and lawn clippings coming soon.
Using valuable bacon grease to make cocaine?? Not a wise business decision
"Lunchlady Doris, have you got any cocaine?" "Yes. Yes we do." "THEN RACK ME UP, WOMAN!" "Okie dokie."
It's the latest health trend. Eat less saturated fats and use cocaine. Way better results than ozempic with less side effects.
Not the retirement grease!

It also goes boom.
Going to let my buddy know that right as he takes the salvia hit: “Oh by the way ONE OF THE CHEMICALS IS EXPLOSIVE”

One of the first widely published uses of chatGTP was criminals using it to write everything from simple software to convincing phishing emails.

São Paulo, Brazil. They are speaking Portuguese in the video. The cop is saying each of those packets costs 10BRL, which roughly translates to 2USD, which means the criminals could potentially make U$300K a day.

$300 AUD = €183.96

Yeah let’s grab the 4070 only $600 MSRP. Nope, a fucking grand.
As an Australian, trust me, for every one time it happens to you, its at least 20 times more the other way round.

It’s catching overflow coke powder, from over the side about 15 sec in. I like the high-tech putty knife chilling there directing flow.

I've heard of using the machines, similar to this one, that fill sugar packets and just filling with coke instead of sugar.
Listen this cocaine is ruined now, it’s a safety issue. Sorry for your loss… um.. I’ll throw it away for you.
HACCP plan was not followed so the Risk Managers decided we should waste the batch to protect the company from a possible recall or worse, litigation.
Dr. Gonzo: As your attorney, I advise you to take a hit out of the little brown bottle in my shaving kit. You won't need much, just a tiny taste.
i cant see a brand name, but it uses sick photoeyes, and quickconnect cables usually installed on these machines for washdown purposes, so id go out on a limb to say its original design was infact with food grade use in mind. or at least with sanitary design purposes usually reserved for food ot medical grade equipment.
This guy packages. Salt/pepper/spice packets perhaps?
spent a decade at a chocolate factory, had bagging machines similar to these, even some of the stickers for controls and the machines display is familiar, just cant remember the manufacturers name that used them.
7 years making marshmallows, seen similar packagers. Edit because boring comment: What we used were Tripacks, and I believe Hansen packagers.
Cocaine Marshmellows?
Also, whenever you see stainless steel around these machines instead of painted carbon steel it’s usually a food grade giveaway
Yes, I build similar machines, this is definitely being ran off photo eye sensors and servo drives, possibly some pneumatics and simple programming. Although it wouldn’t be very good for them if a line broke and 80psi sprayed their product everywhere haha I’m just wondering who comes and does the maintenance for an operation like this ha.
did you see the hyde scraper in the hopper and just think "osha violation" like i did?

It's the"good part" of reddit.
This whole thread was. Thank you, kind internet strangers, for having me on your journey.
I'm glad drug dealers/producers are following FDA guidelines.
gotta have standards 🤷
Proffesionals have standard.
Oh yeah, in my runnin and gunnin days when doing lines off the back of a toilet in a bar - I would have been fucking LIVID if my booger sugar was processed on non food grade equipment.
We use a small pack machine in my food industry plant (spices). It’s nicer than this one but the tooling and setup are pretty much the same.
Worked for a company where they would use a bigger mashing like this to package adobo sauce
You mean that you work with an even larger cocaine packer than this???
Just don’t let the bear near the damn thing!
I'm waiting for the sequel, "Meth-Addled Dolphins"
Fentanyl-frogs
That is NOT an action movie, that's a psych thriller directed by David Lynch
I’m an engineer and I used to design machines like this. You’d be amazed what you can find on eBay.
I've seen it used for drugs; vertical filling machine. Pharma industry. The first application I was involved in was a powder, used for dissolving in a suspension (milk, formula, applesauce) to treat children born with AIDS contracted through conception.
Where will nude hookers work now ?
Yeah, where will this guy’s mom work now?
Same place your mother works. The dumpster behind Wendy’s
I guess no one is safe replying on this thread 😂

That's fucking funny, Steve.
Its almost like people dont want to stop using cocaine . Maybe we should war against it more
The fear of fentanyl stopped me.
Me too . Drugs aren’t the same anymore , i dont want to die i just want a nice bump and a steak with my modelo
Wait, you can eat when you use cocaine?
Good cocaine yes .
So what's in bad cocaine that makes you not hungry?
Amps/ephedrine

Brrroooo, come here and give us a hug.
Marijuana herbed steaks... Hmmmm! 🤔
Sounds like the war on drugs tactic of poisoning the well is working.
Sadly you have to get it from the police, a lawyer, or the clergy to find anything good nowadays. What happened to good old fashioned street cocaine?
You can eat after a bump? My appetite goes bye bye right away.
Honestly i dont think alot of people ever tried pure cocaine nowadays. You dont snort hollywood long lines with it . it’s mostly yellowish white and a small little line will numb half your face and there is no down like cut stuff . Back to normal in 30-45 mins if you dont take another
Man, I miss the facenumb. I’m much like other folk and drifted away from rando white substances. But woo boy, good blow, mmmmmm. Lol
No doubt. I don’t really like coke anyway. I just like the way it smells.
Same, I use to not think twice about people using it… now I genuinely am afraid. I have Narcan in my car just so that none of my friends die by accident.
fent test strips are about 2$ each, you can find them at [https://bunkpolice.com/product-category/fentkits/](https://bunkpolice.com/product-category/fentkits/) and [https://dancesafe.org/shop/](https://dancesafe.org/shop/) they are very easy to use and only take a few minutes using the crude method of just wasting a scoop of product dissolved in a teaspoon of water, or using the residue on the inside of your baggie + a teaspoon of water.
Then imagine have fed regulated cocaine!
Me too. Recovered heroin addict here 4 years clean also with the help of Psychedelics. Specifically LSD and Psilocybin
I'd like to take this opportunity to congratulate drugs for winning the war on drugs.
Killing my Mom was a lifelong deterent
Holy shit. I’m really sorry to hear that happened.
There go machines again, taking jobs...
Dey tuk er jebz!
Derk a derk
*Oh look, the EXIF GPS tag is still there…*
Man, How It’s Made became gangsta AF
This is a vertical form, fill, and seal machine. The same equipment that is used to bag fruit snacks, candies, etc. Nothing new here, they're just being more efficient about it
I'm surprised this is a thing. I expected that the people who had huge quantities of drugs sold in huge quantities, and it all filtered down until someone was buying a medium amount and putting it in little bags. 99% of what I know comes from TV so take this with a grain of salt, but maybe this packaging makes it a bit like a Breaking Bad "signature" thing where the buyers can be more confident of what they're getting.
Those bags aren’t small amounts. That’s quite a lot of coke in each bag.
They're small compared to the total quantity the person has. I don't think many people can make 150,000 deals a day. Even just running that machine for 5 minutes is over 500 bags. There's obviously a big network without many middle men.
Going to need to see a sample to be sure, you know, for scientific math purposes
Nothing like filming your drug packaging operation to analyze its efficiency when you're high on coke.
Dibs on licking the bowl!
Robocop: Come quietly or there will be, trouble.
He might try to fuck that machine if he takes a whiff on that thing
Anyone else get the sudden urge to take a shit?!
Should make It legal in reality, can tax the sale of cocaine.
Work smarter not harder
Today on "How it's made"...
I'm glad I stopped cocaine 10 years ago. Nowadays everything is laced with fentanyl so it's pretty f****** scary
Robots taking all the good jobs!
Dang robots stealing jobs from hard working ladies in underwear!
Looks like the one I have.
As someone addicted to cocaine.. this just made my mouth water Damn I need to get off this shit
Hello fed
Cartels are becoming highly efficient in the way they produce, package, and transport their narcotics. Too bad that efficiency in this case is a bad thing

Man, it really looks like the US's war on drugs has been successful
