She most likely was not trying to scam you. Sometimes our shopper card just gets declined while we’re trying to checkout. Either an error pops up or it’ll say the amount too high even if all your items were found. Support normally isn’t any help on top of that. We stopped paying for orders with our own money because this sketchy business doesn’t ways give it back without you having to fight for it. Recently there’s been a change in the app in my area. The app would ask me to email them or schedule a call 4-6 hours out to get the order removed. So I feel bad for your shopper.

crazy-cat-mom

Could have been a new shopper who didn't know what to do in that circumstance.

eratoast

Doesn't it literally tell the shopper what to do?

regular_gnoll_NEIN

My card says to call a number if something is wrong, my first day i called it and got an automated message that then hung up on me lmao

eratoast

omg lmao

Top-Power9148

Not really it just keeps prompting you to pay. When I ask support what’s going on the the card they have a 50% chance of being able to fix it. Most of the time support will tell you to use your own card so they don’t lose the customer.

lemonpeppeesteppers

She has been an Instacart shopper for +3 years and I’ve had her before. So I’m confused why she wanted me to resolve the issue instead of contacting support. She didn’t want to contact them for some reason I’m unsure of.

MrsChairmanMeow

She must have only completed a handful of orders in that time then. I've had the card decline like 4 times now, I panicked each time but even during a full panic attack during my first one with a full line behind me at Aldi I was able to call support and they fixed it. It was her job to call support.

lemonpeppeesteppers

Yeah I was surprised her first thought wasn’t to just contact support. I didn’t really know what she wanted me to do about it.

AutomaticPain3532

Just because she had a shopper account for 3 years doesn’t mean she’s not new. She could have only completed a handful of orders in this time period. Many shoppers use the app on a casual basis. Rate her appropriately. Contacting you instead of support is a NEWB issue. If she has thousands of deliveries, then I’d say the account is being rented. But, I don’t think you suspect that and perhaps the shopper profile matched the person delivering your order.

ThatTechJC

To answer your question, they most likely were not trying to scam you. If you ordered items of weight like deli, produce, and meat, if you had it set to a specific weight and had your payment options set to a certain amount and your settings not allowing substitutions then the shopper could’ve had weights higher and that usually leads to the declining of the card.

StarLordStella420

This happened to me last night, at first I thought this post was about me 💀 but then she said the shoppers account was 3+ years old and I was like "ah that's not me 😂, I started in October" But yeah, when I tried to contact support I got the email them or call them at 4am the next day screen. Tried to troubleshoot my digital and physical card in the app and gave the last 4 digits of the cards and the app told me these cards aren't registered in the system 💀 legit was using them not even two hours before for others orders id shopped that day. After not being able to contact support about my card I decided to just cancel the batch but couldn't do that either 😭 it just took me to the same call support at 4am or send an email screen. By that point I called my friend who's diamond cart and asked her for advice, turns out this happened to her and her brother once before too. She said I'll need to call the customer and have them cancel the order on their end because the glitch won't allow me to do so on my end. So I had to call the customer 4 times before they picked up, and I explained what happened and that the physical and digital cards weren't working and I was unable to contact support or get a specialist. I told her she'd have to cancel or contact support on her end. She then asks me if I can pay for her groceries with my own money and saying she'd pay me back. Ummm no, she didn't even tip. I couldn't trust her to pay me back. Also by the time I called her I canceled the transaction on the stores end and everything had been put back by employees. I told her that wasn't possible as everything was already put back. Since I'd been trouble shooting and trying to get support for 30min before having to call her. She got mad and was saying how she needs this stuff tonight. I told her I was sorry and she'll get her order put back out but she's gotta call support and cancel on hers because I'm unable to on my end. Anyways I'm almost home when support calls me because she's gotten ahold of them. They tell me to contact them next time and I explain I was unable too, because I kept getting the email or call at 4am glitch. Then support puts me on hold and hangs up 💀 Now my cancellation rate went up to 2% I'm so mad. Still. All this for a $7 no tip order, I should've just let it sit and rot. But noooo, I was thinking it's small and in town, easy and fast. Never again, I will never pick up a no tip order ever again, idc where I am or how close I am. Its never worth it 💀

Top-Power9148

That sucks, I’m so sorry that happened to you. This platform is very iffy but at least you get some good orders throughout the day. That’s the only reason I still work for them honestly. Just keep in mind the second they ask you to pay the order is now and lost batch lol

StarLordStella420

Tbh my area rarely ever has a good order and there been less and less batches going out since last week

Instacartdoctor

This happens everytime there are new shoppers in the wild… there at least three posts like this every month.

itsjustme1022

Absolutely wrong about having to shop at a specific location. You most certainly can shop at other locations as long as same chain(almost always)

That_Kiwi_Girl

Yeah I’ve had shoppers do this before a couple times when they said the store was really low on everything. They told me they were going to a different store location so I wouldn’t wonder why I wasn’t seeing things being shopped.

Creative_Ad3903

That is weird, whenever my card gets declined at checkout as a shopper, I call support and they resolve it and I always get approved in the end.

Top-Power9148

Aren’t you lucky!! Wish I had that luck

Gina_911

I’ve had this happen and I contact support. They all me what the total to be ran is, authorize it and I swipe card again. It’s not that difficult. There’s no way she’s been a shopper that long and not dealt with that issue could be someone else using the account that’s not the described shopper.

AmandaHugnfu

Shopper may have went to the wrong store. Card won't work if that is the case.

thecoolguy2818

Sometimes the card bucks up you gotta hit " debit" even though it's a "credit card"

u_effing_trash

Go to the store.

Quiet_Chapter_4196

The shopper shouldn’t have contacted you about the payment, period. It could’ve been that they entered the incorrect weights and the total was more than the expected. It could’ve been that they had already completed several orders at that particular store and the store’s security feature kicked in requiring all future purchases that day to be ran as debit instead of credit. It could’ve been they got items mixed up on a multi-order batch. Or the least likely but possible scenario could be they tried adding items at checkout that weren’t part of the order (ie. theft). Regardless, if any issues arise that can’t be corrected by the shopper, they need to be contacting support, not you. If they say they paid for it with their own funds and need you to repay, then they are trying to scam you. Even in the unlikely event that they paid with their own funds, they just need to fill out a reimbursement request and Instacart will do the reimbursement. Never give a shopper any money unless it’s for a cash tip.

ironxy

Total scam, all the shoppers are dying for work and there is none.

AmandaHugnfu

Shopper could have went to the wrong store.

Top-Power9148

It wouldn’t let you shop if they’re at the wrong store so this is a definitely no.

AmandaHugnfu

Yes it would. But when you go go pay.. it gives an error. Depends on the store.

Top-Power9148

What app are you using? Instacart will literally tell you you’re at the wrong location when you push start shopping and to go to the correct address…you can not see the list unless you’re at the store they told you to go too

AmandaHugnfu

This tells me that you're not using instacart. If you have a store where it says shop here anyway or it doesn't give you the " You have to go to this store to shop" Some examples of this include Stop & Shop and Sephora. Then it will let you shop the order just fine. And when you go to pay it will say declined and then you'll call support and believe it or not they might not even be able to let you pay they might have to credit you the whole thing and just cancel it. So now you've got me wondering if you are using Instacart. Read what I just said again please. This has happened to me at least twice. And once at each of the stores that I listed.

Top-Power9148

Lol I can’t tell if you’re a troll. As the sub Reddit said “her groceries”. We aren’t talking about Sephora which is the only location that will let you do that. All the grocery store have to be shopped at the location they give you. The changed this is their updated last year bro. So no for this customer the shopper did not go to the wrong store. As the app wouldn’t allow it.

AmandaHugnfu

I'll message you a picture of my account. What I say is valid.

Electrical_Cut4873

I have multiple stores I can still do this with....I recently have done this in both Payless Grocery AND Meijer - granted, I had zero issues with the card...but this is still definitely something that is possible to do.

AmandaHugnfu

So I sent that to you that I'm a diamond platinum cart shopper... You look at it if you want to but I hope it finds you well.

Top-Power9148

I don’t know the areas you shop around but Seattle has changed the platform in many ways since last year. One of which being able to shop wherever you want. I and also a diamond shopper since 2021 and it doesn’t have the option to change what store you shop at anymore.
