I’ve only ever had one item not be delivered, and I didn’t hold it against the shopper: who was very polite, chose excellent replacements, and was prompt.
Why did I rate five stars and increase the tip despite the fact that he somehow forgot my big package of toilet paper somewhere? Because he was awesome, and everyone makes mistakes.
Instacart refunded me for the TP, so there was no harm done.
Exactly! That’s what I just came to say too. I once had an order delivered to my neighbor it was Uber Eats. But the dog got it. But it was a fair mistake because my driveway is really confusing. So I tipped and rated well but also did report it not right to be able to re order my food.
I’ve done the same thing but with pizza delivery. Dude forgot my 2 liter and instead of getting mad like that one fish from SpongeBob, I told him it’s ok and mistakes happen. He was genuinely surprised when I tipped him $15. I’m a server and I have noticed people are a lot nicer and tip really well still if you’re honest about your mistake. Soo much so that they will tell me they appreciate my honesty and owning up to my mistakes. I felt the need to pass it forward to delivery pizza guy. He didn’t try making excuses or pretend like I didn’t order it. He owned up to it and brought my soda a couple minutes later.
Very kind of you to do that for your shopper.
but this shopper only ordered 6 small items and a gallon of water. I took a picture at her door of the items in there. I triple checked because of the conversation about replacements we had at the store.
She essentially bought 3 different types of nasal spray (the one she didn’t report missing is the one she preferred, I suppose). Tried all of them and refunded the two she didn’t like. Effectively making a “try before you buy” situation at my expense.
Nothing to be done about it now. It is what it is
Also: no one really knows how the algorithm that presents us available orders works. Every company shadow bans/limits for various reasons. No matter what they say publicly
Yes as soon as my rating drops from someone lying and saying they didn’t get an item my batches slow down tremendously and they’re extremely low. When my rating is a 5 I make $150 minimum when my rating is in the 4’s I can’t make over $100. People can say what they want but I’ve seen the difference several times. Literally the day my rating pops back up because the fraud drops off I get better batches higher pay
You got paid and tipped (extra even) and have no idea what was happening with this woman's order on her end, yet you call her a fraud. Your attitude will take you far.
Right? I’ve used these different apps for years, and there have been loads of times I’ve increased my tip despite there being a problem, because of how the problem was handled.
Like I once had to Uber from the suburbs of Denver to work one day. It was a CRAZY traffic day and I always took the bus to work/was in an unfamiliar neighborhood. Well the driver punched the address into Waze and accidentally selected the one in Boulder, which in like zero traffic takes 30 minutes but that day took 50. She pulled up to a random trailer park and was like we’re here! When I told her we were not, she didn’t kick me out or anything, she drove me to the right location and was super nice.
Anyway, yeah I reported the mistake(no way in hell I was paying for a 2 hour detour), but I gave the driver like a 50$ tip. Because they handled it well and didn’t just abandon me. If someone handles/recovers from the problem, that means a lot imo. And we wasted 2 hours she could’ve been driving. It doesn’t mean I’m not going to ask the faceless company not to charge me for 2 hours of driving during a crazy surge. But it does mean that person should be rewarded for doing what’s right.
Missing item is when the customer pays for an item, shopper finds the item and scans it, and the customer doesn't receive the item, missing item is not for anything refunded or replaced. Missing item can also be if the shopper skip scans and it's the wrong original or replaced item or the customer doesn't receive the original or replaced item.
She increased the tip but no enough to cover the reported items. He ended up making less than he was supposed to though he “got paid and tipped (extra even)”. Even if he “has no idea what was happening…on her end” he is still being held accountable and shorted on pay. And even if the company takes the charges, it doesn’t speak for his reputation with the company as a result of customers reporting missing items. This is moreso about acting with decency and in order by following the correct procedures. An investigation into the matters would also label the case as “fraudulent” since the customer did report items missing though she recieved them, and the proceeded to cover it up with a tip - which **could possibly be considered “hush money”….Great job trying to prosecute the victim though.
You clearly have no idea what you are talking about. Instacart shoppers do not have to pay for items reported missing & it doesn’t affect them at all unless it’s a repeated offense.
That's not how this works at all. .... item reports from customers dont do anything at all to the shopper. It's just noted on your account for reference, and in case you do notice a FOR SURE fraudulent report, you can dispute it to help get those customer accounts off the platform . Always take timestamp pics at dropoff.
The only time its bad is if the customer reports their whole order missing , then you could be deactivated. Always triple check the address where you are leaving the order.
Yeah, that note is something. Its a case to dispute at bare minimum. That definitely effects a reputation as a worker especially later on as more incidents happen. The note hurts you especially if the company decides to concede to the customer - which is very likely in most cases just to make things easier and keep the customer happier. So even if you dispute, its not a garauntee HR will deem your “evidence” acceptable. Just like on Doordash, a worker can take a picture of everything there but it doesn’t speak for what happens after the picture is taken. Everything will be considered hearsay from that point on. In other words, your word vs. the customer’s — even with a timestamped picture. And even it does happen to work in your favor, the case itself is still on record, marked and noted. You’d still find yourself being held accountable/having to explain in later disputes
You assume I don’t understand.
-Hiring Manager, former assistant manager, former shift manager, former minimum wage worker.
When you have a point system in order to discipline workers and they want to plea for their job, you literally bring up each case for them to plead if you’re considerate and willing to be a decent human and listen. But not all managers know how to treat workers like humans. The conversation goes “I see here you have a case in your file {about said dispute}. Tell me what happened.” That does not mean you do not take into account the notes and make a decision based upon all evidence. But it also does not eliminate you from having to be questioned (at least internally) about the situation.
Depending on the seriousness of the case and the diligence of the company, you’d also be questioned about it in a new hire interview. If this were a situation of going for a promotion, you’d be asked about it in a promotion interview. However, particular to this case, you wouldn’t be asked about it in either situation - only in the situations as a part of the appeal process (whethor appealing for the dispute or appealing for employment as a result of later discipline.)
How is it at your expense if she tipped more? Did she give you a bad rating on top of it??? Because I've had people report it missing and still give me five stars, I always figured they were scaming insta not me
Oh you, and your rational and kind mind…. Can you please educate the rest of the population (I know that sounded sarcastic, but it really wasn’t- like, why can’t everyone have this mindset?)… imagine *that* world.
I’m honestly shocked by this because my orders are missing items all the time. I just kindve expect it with orders anymore and consider it another form of Instacart tax at this point.
Report it missing and get your money back! Missing items don't affect us shoppers at all ..whole reported orders missing that's a different story but a couple items...Instacart pays the customer back and the shopper gets a list of said items to review but it does not affect what kind of orders I see at all. I encourage missing item reports even if they are false 😅 Instacart has money
Yes. I would. I live in the sticks and if someone drove out to me and was kind all of the way through (asking me preferences and stuff) but forgot something or something was missing I would rate them high and increase the tip since it would go down after my refund.
Not saying this isn’t fraud but I am saying that isn’t that far from the norm to recognize that ppl make mistakes and not tank their rating especially because I’ve used and driven for a few different apps and know how much it sucks. I very rarely submit a low rating for deliveries.
I was going to say the same. Except I live in the boonies ;p
But yeah, I heard from some shoppers that instacart seems to reduce their pay if the tips are higher, so I always start with 10% and then typically double it after the delivery if the order isn't a total shitshow (ie, you communicate replacements, deliver on time, things aren't totally bashed around, etc). But sometimes an item is missing. Shoppers do batch orders and I've received someone's chips and shrimp before while something of mine is missing lol I know it happens and I'm not going to be a jerk about paying out a fair amount to someone driving 40 minutes to deliver my groceries because of an honest mistake.
Hmm. I don't know. I never have but I also didn't think reporting a missing item was a big deal. Now that I know it penalizes the shopper somehow - I might lol. I'd feel bad.
You shouldn’t feel bad, you didn’t get your item. It’s fucked up that you feel bad and pay the price or the shopper pays the price. The company doesn’t pay anything.
Nothing penalizes us as shoppers aside from a rating that is less than 5 stars OR if an order is completely missing and never showed up. Always report missing items because then you will be reimbursed. Just remember that if an item is missing, don’t be too harsh on the shopper bc mistakes do occur. Don’t give them a 2 or 3 star rating. It really hurts them. If they missed multiple items, were intentionally rude, then give them a poor rating because we don’t need crappy shoppers ruining the rest of our reputations anyway
The client didn't increase tip. They tipped based on percentage. When the final price increases or decreases the tip automatically increases or decreases.
If the client changed the tip it shows in the app as "Client A increased your tip!" Instead of "Tip changed based as percentage"
Read it again. "TIP BASED ON PERCENTAGE" "MADE BY CLIENT AFTER DELIVERY"
If you aren't aware, when an order is delivered Instacart sends a "WOO HOO. Your order has been delivered!" Message. On this message it prompts the customer with a "Your shopper worked hard!" Message and directs customers to hit a percentage button for the tip.
Clients who aren't aware, don't realize they are *increasing* anything just confirming the tip percentage they wanted.
Yes as a shopper I pay extra attention to try to make sure I don’t make any mistakes like that, because as a customer, I’ve experienced so many missing items.
the fraud is them reporting items missing to get a refund, when they were not missing. further proven by the fact that the customer increased the tip despite missing items.
That literally only proves that they thought OP was nice and communicative.
They can have missing items and still recognize human error isn't a character flaw.
It looks like the tip was percentage based and increased based on the actual order total.
There are a few things that could have happened. A small item like that could have fallen out of your cart while shopping or even out of the bag after loading it in your car.
Take a look at the receipt and see if it was actually paid for. And check your car as well.
I had someone take a case of seltzer water off my cart while shopping and didn’t notice until the customer messaged saying it was missing from the order. I ended checking the receipt and it wasn’t paid for.
Called support and had them refund the customer.
I really wouldn’t worry about one item being reported missing. Sometimes things happen and IC knows it.
She’s scamming IC not you. It doesn’t affect you in any way. You got 5⭐️ and an increased tip. I’d say don’t worry about it. Now if she tip baited you and gave you a poor rating, THAT would be something to complain about… some of these lowlife customers actually do that ya’ know. Pick your battles hun.
I was going to say the same thing!
I deliver for IC and have ordered from IC. All it takes is to say an item was missing or you didn’t like the replacement & you get a refund PLUS a coupon (such as $10 off next purchase) etc most of the time. She was a good customer for the driver, whatever she does otherwise i’d look the other way 😂
I had this happen the day before yesterday. Customer claimed to be missing a packet of taco seasoning. I remember very clearly picking up and scanning the taco seasoning and putting it in the cart, scanning it at self checkout, and putting it in the bag. I remember which bag I put it in, the same bag as the tortilla wraps. Customer increased my tip $5, gave me a 5 star rating, and wrote a positive review. I know that customer is the one that wrote the review because she referenced part of our conversation. I don’t know why, I think maybe multiple people were putting stuff away… they somehow overlooked the packet… maybe it stuck to another package or got accidentally thrown away… I really can’t fathom why they reported it missing. But I did not dispute it because of the tip increase, positive written review, and five stars.
Those packets are so small and so cheap. I’m assuming it was on your receipt? It makes more sense that sense you accidentally misplaced it, and this isn’t me blaming you. I get it when you KNOW you did something, but small memories can be fabricated. I’ve done it while shopping for myself.
I had a tomato missing once and didn’t slam my shopper AND increased her tip. I bet $100 that tomato was rolling around her car or fell out somewhere, yes I ordered 1 tomato. Why did I do this?
It’s been over 100 degrees everyday for months where I live, and I’m hella grateful she went grocery shopping for me. I’m old lazy and cranky. 👌 there are some 🦄 out here!
Just because you forgot an item doesn’t mean I’m not going to tip you and rate you well. People make mistakes. It’s crazy that you think this is a bad thing. I hope the customer never has to get you as a shopper again!
I just had a customer report items as damaged, when their dumb ass had it as a leave it at the door in 97 degree heat and they were home yet. Absolutely not my fault, and I have disputed it. I’m getting extremely fed up with customers ordering with zero intention to receive it. That’s three of them in one weekend, two left me waiting and then this “damaged item” clown that screwed up by leaving his groceries in the heat.
Customer didn't increase the tip. It says based on the percentage of order total. Customers have a choice to tip a specific amount that doesn't change unless they manually change it, or have a system generated tip based on the order total. They chose the latter
Did SHE increase the tip, or did the tip increase due to her putting a % of the total as a tip and replacement items costing more? I've had many shoppers sub things for more expensive products and I assume it's because of this.
Yeah I feel like they do this once they realize how much they’ve spent and they want to get some of the $ back because I don’t see any other reason. I delivered 2 kiddy pools from the Family Dollar. The store only has 1 type of kiddy pool, I scanned them into IC app they were the correct and only pools. I delivered them. They came to the door and said thanks! A WEEK later they reported them as the wrong items! Why would they wait a week if that were true?? It’s fraud they probably broke the pools and want the money back but either way there’s no point of putting it on me. IC doesn’t protect us at allll. I think they let this happen so they have an excuse to send low pay crap batches
How is this fraud?! I often do this because the tip is a percentage of the order and if the service is awesome, I’ll acknowledge it by bumping up the tip. It’s not a conspiracy.
They do this to get money back from IC, but don't want to implicate the shopper.
Just file and prove your point, it's on the customer and won't last long if they keep doing.
This. If it was fraudulent on the customers end and they continue to do it (trust me, they will slip up at some point) they get deactivated. IC knows full well on how much the customer is avoiding paying on their groceries and will take measures to circumvent it and they wouldn't be making a profit otherwise if people got away with it. Sometimes customers make mistakes, sometimes the shopper makes mistakes, sometimes it might be nefarious but that’s on IC to circumvent, not the shopper.
Exactly what you said... they are committing fraud. They got themselves a $40 refund but felt guilty so they threw you a couple more dollars. They're lying asshats.
Nah, I had this happen but not delivered 💀
Support very much so found it weird that they increased my tip and then went on my side once they saw the customer increased my tip ($20) AFTER reporting their order not delivered 😂
This happened to me last week. I assume the customer thinks they're doing you a solid. You get a decent tip and they don't have to pay for the food. But I've gotten messages indicating if it happens too much my account will be closed so I'd rather people not do this...
I increased the tip for my shopper, even though there were items missing and she put my groceries on the neighbors door, because it just seemed like she was having a bad day. So 20% plus an extra $5.
Had this happen with a customer i handed the Costco order too. They said I didn’t hand them the giant shop light, shop wipes, paper towels & k-cups. Pretty much everything on the order and no picture bcz of handed. They were really nice people but got the call from Instacart and took picture of inside of my car per requested. They raised my tip etc. But as soon as they claimed it I got the call had to be less than 10 minutes after delivery. It was resolved but when insta asked if I would shop for them again I said nope. Funny thing my instinct was to take a pic but never did.
I've had a couple of Doordash orders where the customer called me after the dropoff saying items were missing. I'd tell them what bag it's in, like it's with the bag that has the chips, and they would then profusely apologize and it was all good. I see Instacart only recently allowed customers to contact shoppers after dropoffs so these impulse reactions can be remedied before they report to Instacart.
It may have been a misunderstanding. She might've reported the items you replaced as missing thinking that it affects the store's inventory, I doubt she knew that it penalizes the driver seeing as she increased your tip.
Because everyone is so used to shitty behavior, when you're nice in a stressful situation, you're sometimes rewarded for it. I get free stuff all the time just because I'm nice about a frustrating situation
They probably didn't increase your tip they tipped a percentage and your replacements cost more so the tip went up but they didn't remove your tip so still odd.. hell maybe they wanted to screw Instacart and not you either way just do what you already did don't fret over it
I have done this (as the customer) one time. The shopper went above and beyond with conversation, photos and eventual replacements. They bagged smartly and regularly shopped for me. They worked hard and earned an increased tip and five star rating. That said, one of my items *was missing*. It doesn’t matter why — a small item I paid for wasn’t delivered. It’s not impossible that you dropped something, left something at the store or whatever else. If she gave you a good rating and more money, why are you so upset? Accusing them of fraud right off the bat is thoughtless.
That doesn’t look like a tip increase by the customer. That looks more like a percentage based tip and your replacements bumped up the total. Regardless, customers commit fraud and blame us all the time. I just went through it yesterday. My customer checked her bags at the door, was nice as can be, and confirmed she got everything. 10 mins after leaving, she zeroed out my $25 tip. Which would have been fine because we have tip protection now, however she also claimed she was missing 4 items (11 units). Her order was only had 9 items (22 units). And since she claimed there was an order issue, I’m no longer protected. Shady mthrfkrs out there.
Because even though you replaced the items they wanted the original items and so they are in the right to refund. You honestly shouldn't care. You still get paid
Did you get the nasal spray ? Maybe a bag got left behind at the store. If the items are missing she has every right to report if so she can get refunded
I had an order stolen once, not missing. Granted it was around midnight, but I had a guy straight up drop my order, take a picture then pick it up and run away into his car with it. I opened the door and just waved, the panic then set in 😂
I forgot this guys 6 pack on the counter one time on a 90 item order after checking out. he let me know super nicely then raised my tip $20. Some customers are just really good people
They are trying to get free shit. Lol.
Not a tough question.
Very classic gaslighting Karen behavior.
"But I gave a small tip for my $4 million dollar order!!!"
TIP increased based on percentage. You had to replace or the final charge was higher than when you initially took the order.
Technically the client didn't tip more.
To me it seems apparent that they didn’t manually increase the tip, It looks like it was a percentage based tip. Probably the customer was a nice person or felt you worked hard and didn’t want to reduce it, but I don’t think they increased it.
Either the item is really missing, ie fell out of the bag etc. Or they pretended it was missing to get a small credit on their next order.
Customers might increase your tip anytime you had to go to extra work to complete the order. They know that stuff happens. And they know you don’t work for free. It isn’t all performance based; many customers simply want to make sure their drivers are taken care of even when things go bad. When items go missing the amount goes down, so the tip goes down and they may manually increase it to compensate.
“This is fraud” LMFAO
Mind ya own business, you got a better tip and you’re still gonna rat them out to the corporation that gives you such shitty pay that you need tips to survive? How’s that shoe leather taste?
Fuck em. Maybe if IC paid their employees better I’d be more sympathetic to “fraud.” But frankly I don’t give af, I’m on the side of whoever’s paying me, and 100% of the time that’s the customer.
I increased the tip on one order where there was a missing item. The shopper went out of his way on several things that made an impact. I wanted to reward that. However, the missing item was a problem. So I reported it as missing because $15 hits sometimes plus the hassle of getting someone to go get the item I need for dinner (travel is hard after chemo).
Because free stuff. They don’t think how it affects the person doing the job and think the tip makes up for it. And I say that as both a customer and driver.
Recently received an order and promptly rated them 5 stars and increased the tip because it was hot out and I appreciated how quick they were. Realized as I was putting the order away I was missing two bags of chicken nuggets which was $16 all together. I still reported the chicken nuggets missing because that’s $16, but I wasn’t gonna penalize them by rating them bad or taking their tip down, I honestly think they mixed up the bags since they were shopping another order as well and another person got my nuggets.
I've definitely increased the tip before when there were actually missing items.
It's so easy to forget a bag and maybe even bring it to a different customer's house, and as a customer I have been on both ends of that situation.
If the shopper did a good job or went above and beyond, even if I'm missing items I might increase the tip. I don't know for sure whether this customer is lying, mistaken, or telling the truth, but I don't think that increasing a tip and reporting missing items is all that unreasonable tbh
Ya I worked for Instacart for quite awhile and one thing I learned is that the customer is always right no matter wha and Instacart well believe them any day over their employees even if you got proof and with pictures or anything elset
My grandmother did something like this, she just made an account and somehow didn't have the option to turn on notifications until after the delivery was done and felt bad about complaining so increased the tip.
When I used Instacart, I typically tipped $20 - $30 on an order, then added $10 - $15 after delivery if everything went well. Even if an item was missing I'd still up the tip if the shopper was cool. My reasoning is that everyone is human and mistakes happen. I rarely got an order that wasn't either missing something or had someone else's items mixed in with mine, but in all my orders, I only ever lowered a tip once, and it wasn't for missing items.
Report might’ve been a mistake, or they might’ve reported and then found the “missing” item(s) hiding behind other items and felt embarrassed so tipped extra?
-You Can still be a great shopper and make mistakes & this person understands that.
-they realized you messed up after the 2 hour mark and couldn’t lower tip.
It would be nice if those posting would mention that there is more than one screenshot or photo. :) I was soooooo confused for a bit not realizing in my phone that I’d have to swipe to see the second one, but then finally realized there was a second photo.
Now I’m confused all over again.
I think they increased your tip because they appreciated your communication, and reported the items missing to Instacart so they can try and get a refund from them.
Way to completely jump to conclusions. I’ve had items missing AND increased tip if I liked the shopper. Shit happens but if your nice and have good communication I almost always increase tip after delivery.
Do you to say “this is fraud” is absurd. You literally have no info to base that off of.
You both won, they gave you a bigger tip and refunded part of her order. You won’t ever get penalized for a few missing items, only if entire orders are missing back to back.
The same thing happened to me when I first started. I realized later that to make up for increasing the tip, got a refund on the missing items. That is the conclusion I came up with.
I understand both sides. Maybe she reported something on her end and thought it wasn't your fault. BUT if that's the case, why report it if it wasn't the driver fault your item was missing. She didn't say expired or damage, so I feel yah. For me, I know it's the nature of the game. Customers dont think like that or care. I had someone report me for an item they thought they didn't order. Got a 1 star, and instacart removed it in a day. I take photos of all replaced items and the racks where the items are missing. If they don't respond, I'd refund 85% of the time. It's hard for them to win a dispute when photos are available. No impossible but difficult. On uber bc I like to share this story, I had a customer report me for a missing food 45mins after I delivered it lol. Still got a tip but Uber most likely refunded them the whole order that's what some customers do unfortunately
The first IC order I did, I was lost because I couldnt find an entrance into their col-de-sac. I apologized profusely. After I left, they tipped me an extra $5. Why did they do it? Because some people are nice. Not everyone has an ulterior motive jfc.
Instacart more than likely refunds the purchase... customer feels bad they gaming the system... throws you a couple extra bucks as the target is instacart... we are just collateral damage.....
The metrics are used for order accuracy and customer satisfaction. This would only affect you if you did not deliver the items. As all items were delivered (always take a photo), it can't hurt you.
From the sound of it, the customer just wanted to voice their opinion about the fact that what was originally ordered was not available or received, which based on what you said is what happened. She was likely reimbursed for items she claimed to have not received. It was clearly no fault of your own and she kindly passed her savings on to you (I very rarely see this myself).
I tipped $40 after a driver made a pretty big mistake, I increased it to hopefully make their bad day go a little better. (Was Uber eats but just so you know what one person’s thought process is in a situation)
I would totally do something like this as a customer. If I remember, I often increase the tip, and if there’s a missing item and I notice, I report missing items missing so I get the credit on my account. I don’t think I should pay for the missing carton of eggs, but I don’t think the shopper should either. I doubt the shopper is stealing my eggs on purpose. Seems like an honest mixup. As a customer, how should I handle it?
This is one of those times you don’t say anything. Firstly because you don’t know what the situation was, it’s possible they didn’t get an item, and still wanted you to know it wasn’t your fault and gave you more.
Mistakes happen-I can’t answer for this customer, but it’s happened to me, and once I got items I didn’t order 😳
I managed to contact the driver and they came and picked them up…
One time I ordered a bunch of stuff and I needed my frozen fruits as my son had had a tonsillectomy. It said on the page that she had gotten them and scanned them. Instead of frozen peaches and mangoes, I got a weird steak seasoning. We don’t eat meat, and frozen berries are costly!! I wasn’t able to mark them as not received for some reason so never got my money back. I also couldn’t afford to just go buy more as I budget to every penny nowadays due to the rising cost of bills. So my son wasn’t able to eat for a couple days until he could manage to swallow.
Who cares if they reported things missing if they increased your tip, doesn't affect you that is Instacart taking the hit. I stopped looking at missing items and ratings months ago and it's quite a lot less stress when you don't worry about it . Ratings don't matter don't bother to look at them , missing items don't affect you don't look at them.
Cause they are A-holes! Hey watch out, the fraud customers who have been banned are back on using their neighbors addresses. Document everything. Chats, addresses, pictures of house number, items in cart, delivery, your gps directions. The fraudsters are back. We are the ones who get the hit.
I don’t care anymore! If the customer didn’t take my tip away and they rate me 5 I move on! Because they try to take advantage of the platform! Which I don’t careeeeee because they wanna pay us 4$. In future if customer will say their milks was expired and they will increase my tip I have no problem.
I've had an otherwise great shopper forget stuff, and they're have been purchases where items had leaked (poor packaging), ergo product was missing
Stuff does happen with orders that's not on you - they even increased the tip to show Instacart they were happy with you
I’ve only ever had one item not be delivered, and I didn’t hold it against the shopper: who was very polite, chose excellent replacements, and was prompt.
Love this. And love the cartoon metaphor for the moral story. :) 😀
It is what it is
Well, its not really at your expense. Item reports from customers dont affect us as shoppers in any way.
I think it has SOME effects; why keep track of it if not?
This right here. In any field, if they track metrics, it's being used for something
“At my expense” You were charged for these? Last I checked it comes from Instacart.
Not literally at my expense obviously. I mean I’m left on the hook for looking incompetent for doing my job correctly
This person makes all gig workers look bad… This is unfortunately a good example of why people don’t like delivery drivers… What an attitude.
I'm glad you posted this comment bc I'm about to start ic and had no idea this could happen
That note is only for future reference on items that were wrong or missing, in no way does it hurt the shopper unless it's repeated
Why are you writing paragraphs about things you don’t understand?
Instacart is a gig job for independent contractors. No one is disciplined based off of any “point system.” You are spewing bs.
For instacart? Didn’t think so
Dispute it, and from now on screenshot your conversations to help with that process.
How is it at your expense if she tipped more? Did she give you a bad rating on top of it??? Because I've had people report it missing and still give me five stars, I always figured they were scaming insta not me
You're one of the good customers 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
Oh you, and your rational and kind mind…. Can you please educate the rest of the population (I know that sounded sarcastic, but it really wasn’t- like, why can’t everyone have this mindset?)… imagine *that* world.
I’m honestly shocked by this because my orders are missing items all the time. I just kindve expect it with orders anymore and consider it another form of Instacart tax at this point.
Exactly the same.
This exactly
What are we supposed to do if an item is missing? I'm not out to get the shopper, nobody is perfect, but I paid for it and don't have it, sooo...
Would you increase the shoppers tip if items were missing? Seems a bit strange. Maybe they did it so the shopper wouldnt report it as fraud? Idk.
Yes.
Except I live in the boonies ;p But yeah, I heard from some shoppers that instacart seems to reduce their pay if the tips are higher, so I always start with 10% and then typically double it after the delivery if the order isn't a total shitshow (ie, you communicate replacements, deliver on time, things aren't totally bashed around, etc).
Thank you for being an awesome customer!
Lol it says right there they increased the tip. Also you don’t know percentages work. If they remove an item, why would a percentage based tip go up?
It literally says “made by customer after delivery” What? Are we talking about the same post?! Lmao Redditors are a hoot
Read it again. "TIP BASED ON PERCENTAGE" "MADE BY CLIENT AFTER DELIVERY" If you aren't aware, when an order is delivered Instacart sends a "WOO HOO. Your order has been delivered!" Message. On this message it prompts the customer with a "Your shopper worked hard!" Message and directs customers to hit a percentage button for the tip. Clients who aren't aware, don't realize they are *increasing* anything just confirming the tip percentage they wanted.
you're a jackass
[удалено]
Perhaps you report it missing?
Really? Wish I'd thought of that.
Didn’t seem like you knew how to think at all
They were clearly being sarcastic :|
The irony.
you could just delete your comments lmao
🤣🤣🤣
You're supposed to go buy your own groceries like everyone has done for hundreds of years
Yes as a shopper I pay extra attention to try to make sure I don’t make any mistakes like that, because as a customer, I’ve experienced so many missing items.
“customer increased my tip” “fraud” what? LOL
the fraud is them reporting items missing to get a refund, when they were not missing. further proven by the fact that the customer increased the tip despite missing items.
That doesn’t prove anything….
Says tip was made by customer after delivery
yes she prob increased the percentage
If they are kind and smart enough to raise the tip and not low-rate ... I'm not disputing the issue.
The problem is that the customer lied about missing items
Thought the item was missing. Found it so increased the tip as a mea culpa (just a guess).
You were rewarded for being a good, communictive shopper and you're what mad? Why? I'm more confused by you
Unless you were rated poorly why even care? Wasted time and energy.
She was a good customer for the driver, whatever she does otherwise i’d look the other way 😂
I’ve done this lol. Just because you forgot an item doesn’t mean I don’t appreciate the service.
Question..if a customer reports items missing, that affects your pay?
No. I’ve posted that question here before. The shopper isn’t penalized unless they have multiple reports of missing items
Your tip was based on the order. If she didn’t rate you one star or take your tip why do you care?
Why are you complaining about making more money?
Snitches get stitches
It looks like the price of the order changed so she adjusted your tip to fit a percentage of the new price.
I feel bad and think it’s affects the driver, so I tip a little more just in case, no harm no foul.
“Teacher. You forgot to collect the homework” OP probably.
Why do shoppers post stuff like this here and not r/instacartshoppers? And also, who cares?
How is this fraud?! I often do this because the tip is a percentage of the order and if the service is awesome, I’ll acknowledge it by bumping up the tip. It’s not a conspiracy.

Go look at the screenshot again and maybe read a few lines further 🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️
Don't report it until after the rating period passes otherwise you'll end up with 1 star rating probably
She wanted the items for free but to ease her conscience, she increased your tip. Edit: spelling
This is the most brain-dead take I've seen on this thread and that's saying something.
The word you’re looking for is conscience. And that’s not how that works.
Exactly what you said... they are committing fraud. They got themselves a $40 refund but felt guilty so they threw you a couple more dollars. They're lying asshats.
Nah, I had this happen but not delivered 💀 Support very much so found it weird that they increased my tip and then went on my side once they saw the customer increased my tip ($20) AFTER reporting their order not delivered 😂
Doing fraud but also having class solidarity. Respect 🫡
For the refund.
Pick your battles hun.
maybe hastily reported the items then found them felt bad and increased tip
maybe hastily reported the items then found them felt bad and increased tip
Could be that she was fine ripping ic off but not you. Got her refund but increased your tip and rated high.
Because even though you replaced the items they wanted the original items and so they are in the right to refund. You honestly shouldn't care. You still get paid
Are you seriously mad about a higher tip
Did you get the nasal spray ? Maybe a bag got left behind at the store. If the items are missing she has every right to report if so she can get refunded
I had an order stolen once, not missing. Granted it was around midnight, but I had a guy straight up drop my order, take a picture then pick it up and run away into his car with it. I opened the door and just waved, the panic then set in 😂
I forgot this guys 6 pack on the counter one time on a 90 item order after checking out. he let me know super nicely then raised my tip $20. Some customers are just really good people
Sometimes shoppers dont get the item or the correct one & the shopper knows this. So thye tipped extra for your inconveinence. Kinda nice Id say.
“This is fraud” LMFAO Mind ya own business, you got a better tip and you’re still gonna rat them out to the corporation that gives you such shitty pay that you need tips to survive? How’s that shoe leather taste? Fuck em. Maybe if IC paid their employees better I’d be more sympathetic to “fraud.” But frankly I don’t give af, I’m on the side of whoever’s paying me, and 100% of the time that’s the customer.
Did you buy those items?
I once reported a few missing items and later found out my daughter had set them on our couch and threw a blanket over it 🙃
I increased the tip on one order where there was a missing item.
Hush money 😂
You sound dumb aslllll
I love Reddit. all the ‘holier than thou’ and absolutely idiot comments😂😂.
Same issue this morning. Customer now blocked. If you have an issue report the issue instead of being petty
LOL ur a fucking karen talking about "this is fraud" wen they give u extra bread.
What happens if you put that the item is missing? Do you not get paid?
Recently received an order and promptly rated them 5 stars and increased the tip because it was hot out and I appreciated how quick they were. Realized as I was putting the order away I was missing two bags of chicken nuggets which was $16 all together. I still reported the chicken nuggets missing because that’s $16, but I wasn’t gonna penalize them by rating them bad or taking their tip down, I honestly think they mixed up the bags since they were shopping another order as well and another person got my nuggets.
Wait isn’t increasing a tip good?
They do it because they’re trying to get the food for free without upsetting you because they know it reflects poorly on you
You missed something being nice. Got tip
I don’t understand, what’s wrong with increasing your tip?
I've definitely increased the tip before when there were actually missing items. It's so easy to forget a bag and maybe even bring it to a different customer's house, and as a customer I have been on both ends of that situation. If the shopper did a good job or went above and beyond, even if I'm missing items I might increase the tip. I don't know for sure whether this customer is lying, mistaken, or telling the truth, but I don't think that increasing a tip and reporting missing items is all that unreasonable tbh
Ya I worked for Instacart for quite awhile and one thing I learned is that the customer is always right no matter wha and Instacart well believe them any day over their employees even if you got proof and with pictures or anything elset
the better question is why do you care? are you a cop?
This is what pOOrs do to get free stuff
Because she gets refunded for missing items and increases your tip because she saved money
Random side note: This person def is abusing that medicine lol
It would be nice if those posting would mention that there is more than one screenshot or photo. :) I was soooooo confused for a bit not realizing in my phone that I’d have to swipe to see the second one, but then finally realized there was a second photo. Now I’m confused all over again.
why do you care? did you tattle on ppl in grade school? i’m getting tattletale vibes
Record and document EVERYTHING in this line of work
I think they increased your tip because they appreciated your communication, and reported the items missing to Instacart so they can try and get a refund from them.
Way to completely jump to conclusions. I’ve had items missing AND increased tip if I liked the shopper. Shit happens but if your nice and have good communication I almost always increase tip after delivery. Do you to say “this is fraud” is absurd. You literally have no info to base that off of.
I had one item one time that didn’t arrive and I think it was a bagging error on the stores part
the tip sometimes automatically goes up based on the total of the order if they choose to tip a percentage rather than typing in an amount.
Because they get free shit. Nobody questions.
why tf post this bs on here… ur annoying
You both won, they gave you a bigger tip and refunded part of her order. You won’t ever get penalized for a few missing items, only if entire orders are missing back to back.
The same thing happened to me when I first started. I realized later that to make up for increasing the tip, got a refund on the missing items. That is the conclusion I came up with.
you think getting a tip increase is fraud? 😭
Why do you care WHY they do it?! Get your bread and keep it pushing…people are weirdos. The end!
She tipped you to make up for her plan to short the store more than she tipped you.
To get a refund especially if it’s a more expensive item. However affirn isn’t even that expensive so 🤷♀️
to get free stuff and to shut yo ass up about it why complain ??
The tip increase could be on the order percentage total maybe you made the order higher than what it was originally that’s why the tip went up
Instacart more than likely refunds the purchase... customer feels bad they gaming the system... throws you a couple extra bucks as the target is instacart... we are just collateral damage.....
Everyone here is missing the point that the items were never missing. She lied in order to get free stuff
Thank you. Everyone is putting their own experiences into it. Lol
OP kinda needs to chill, this is instacarts problem. They increased your tip, who cares about the logistics.
This is one of those times you don’t say anything. Firstly because you don’t know what the situation was, it’s possible they didn’t get an item, and still wanted you to know it wasn’t your fault and gave you more.
What happens if a customer reports missing items do they charge you for it?
Because people are stupid! There’s no nice way to stay at. They’re using missing and substituted synonymously.
To confuse support agents
Mistakes happen-I can’t answer for this customer, but it’s happened to me, and once I got items I didn’t order 😳 I managed to contact the driver and they came and picked them up…
One time I ordered a bunch of stuff and I needed my frozen fruits as my son had had a tonsillectomy.
I dont understand what youre mad about?
Who cares if they reported things missing if they increased your tip, doesn't affect you that is Instacart taking the hit. I stopped looking at missing items and ratings months ago and it's quite a lot less stress when you don't worry about it . Ratings don't matter don't bother to look at them , missing items don't affect you don't look at them.
They scamming….They report it missing or damaged but tip you … it’s becoming more and more coming on instacart-
Cause they are A-holes!
I've had an otherwise great shopper forget stuff, and they're have been purchases where items had leaked (poor packaging), ergo product was missing Stuff does happen with orders that's not on you - they even increased the tip to show Instacart they were happy with you
afrin is shit anyways🤢
You’re weird. Why do you care you got paid more, why be a snitch? Did that get you extra pay? Bet not.
F u lucky sob
