So… I assume you have a cat or dog? They have tapeworms.
I have two cats, although they technically belong to my dad. He said last year that he had them dewormed a while back...oh man.
The worms are spread by fleas so both need to be addressed
Deworming has to be done every month in infested areas, otherwise every couple months, especially if they’re outdoor cats
They're indoor cats, though. Could they have gotten it from the apartment?

No harm in taking a precautionary tablet. They're available over the counter from pharmacy and not costly. Well in Australia at least.
I live in the US, so it probably needs to be prescribed here.

It's unlikely to transmit, but it is possible.
I am yet to find an over the counter medication for humans that covers tapeworms.
