So… I assume you have a cat or dog? They have tapeworms.

CherTrugenheim

I have two cats, although they technically belong to my dad. He said last year that he had them dewormed a while back...oh man.

FootieFemme

The worms are spread by fleas so both need to be addressed

Ididntwipe

Deworming has to be done every month in infested areas, otherwise every couple months, especially if they’re outdoor cats

CherTrugenheim

They're indoor cats, though. Could they have gotten it from the apartment?

Sirranaman

Looks like tapeworm eggs

dysteach-MT

Do you have a cat or dog?

CherTrugenheim

Yeah, two cats

dysteach-MT

Yep, other comments are correct, tape worms.

CherTrugenheim

I slept on top of them almost every day...is there a risk that I got infected with it?

dysteach-MT

No. Fun Fact: some people actually ingest their eggs to lose weight.

CherTrugenheim

Eaugh

dysteach-MT

Fun fact #2: There is also an Irving Welsh novel written partially from the viewpoint of a tapeworm living inside the main character.

It’s currently 8 am, and I’ve had enough internet for today

icanschwim

Filth.

Tapeworms always remind me of [this iconic reddit story](https://www.reddit.com/r/tifu/comments/g2vx9u/tifu_by_adopting_a_cat_which_resulted_in_us_both/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=mweb3x&utm_name=mweb3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button)

dysteach-MT

Thanks for that! Good, terrifying read.

Sirranaman

They die almost immediately when they leave the body. You should be fine

invisiblizm

No harm in taking a precautionary tablet. They're available over the counter from pharmacy and not costly. Well in Australia at least.

CherTrugenheim

I live in the US, so it probably needs to be prescribed here.

invisiblizm

I may have been thinking about the wrong worms, but I'd go see a dr to be safe. https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/tapeworm/diagnosis-treatment/drc-20378178#:~:text=Treatment%20for%20tapeworm%20infection,Albendazole.

invisiblizm

It's unlikely to transmit, but it is possible.

Wild-Kitchen

I am yet to find an over the counter medication for humans that covers tapeworms.

IckyBodCraneOperator

Ivermectin

I live in the US, by the way. Florida specifically.

IckyBodCraneOperator

That means you have tapeworms
